I took my course through Durham Collage in Whitby. Small engine is a two year course, Marine is three years First and Second as small engine, third as marine. There are lots of ways to get into the program but I'll warn you up front the pay is not very good especially starting out. If you'd like to talk about it, give me a call 705-328-0577.

First of all, are you mechanically inclined? The parts aren't that expensive but it is a lot of labour. Whatever you do, don't just scrap it, if you are going to get rid of it, I would love to have it so I can use it to teach one of my apprentices.

Unless it is a VERY old machine (points and condenser) you can't adjust the timing. What is it doing that makes you think the timing is off?

Thank you one and all, I have now printed off the instructions and the application (the fee to apply is $50.00). I never thought about the John Howard Society, just so happens I know someone there in a senior position, I am going to send her an email this morning. In the short term my young friend has decided to just be up front and honest with her perspective employer and hope they understand that when you are young you sometimes say things you probably shoulden't say. It was 14 years ago and she hasn't been in trouble since.

A friend of mine was charged with uttering threats about 14 years ago. At the time she didn't think much of it and just pleaded guilty because she was told she would get a suspended sentence which she did. She has just applied for a job that required a police check and wouldn't you know it, it showed up on her record. My understanding is that she can apply for a pardon and if granted, her record will be clean, am I correct? If she applies for a pardon, what is involved? She doesn't have a lot of money, how long does it take and how much does it cost? Any help would be much appreciated especially from anyone who can give me some facts or tell me how she has to go about it! Thanks big Cliff

Well, since they are allowing ice fishing here I had thought about building a hut. I started looking at plans on the internet and found a few but they were either too expensive to build, too heavy for me to move, or just plain too darn much work for an old guy like me. Besides, they weren't all that portable, all I have is an ATV and trying to pull a hut in deep snow isn't something I want to do. I started looking at the Sub Zero Tundra Tuff 4-man Ice Shelter and it looks like it is light enough for me to handle, would give me the ability to fish different waters when and if I want to, and CTC has them listed for $299.00 which I could probably talk the family into giving me as a combined Christmas present. Mostly it would just be me and one or two other people but I can't find any information on the dimensions of it. If you have one, would you buy another one? What would be the best heater to use in it? There is also a similar product called an Ice Cube, are they similar or identical? Any and all feedback would be much appreciated! Big Cliff Before I go putting it on my wish list I thought it would be better to ask this crew a few questions: Which way would you go if it was up to you?

I have known both you and Dan since you became members of this board and if anyone has a problem with either of you they better be wearing high rubber boots because they are in a pile of crap. Both of you have given so much to this board Sis, don't you worry about those who speak of what they don't know! You are both loved by many (well, all the important ones anyway!) So glad to have you back!

Welcome back Sis, it has been way too long!

OK LOL, I give, you are the man While I do work my machines hard I have never put them through that kind of torture! You have a wonderful ride, I'm looking forward to seeing some pictures.

BEARS! What to do with fish remains while camping?
Big Cliff replied to mahman's topic in General Discussion
Just pretend you are bear hunting! I know lots of guys that spend many hours and $ putting out bait for bears then sitting in their stands and never get to see one. Wild bears tend to avoid humans any chance they get. They realize that we are up the food chain from them. Worst thing you can do if you do see one is try to run. Just like a dog, they will chase anything that tries to run away but avoid anything that they think is a threat to them. In some 50+ years in the bush I haven't been attacked by a bear yet and I have encountered many! -
Sorry my friend, I won't say you are wrong but I'll put my Polaris up against anything else out there. I worked the heck out of my little 350 for nearly 10 years. It never, ever, left me walking and I went places no normal human would walk. The only time it ever quit was when I drove it into a 5' deep mud hole and kept it going.

Sue and I have been doing a lot of research on that very topic. Much too much for me to type out here but you'd be surprised at what we have found out and how easy it would be for two people to retire and how little it would cost. I'm talking comfort, luxury, freedom (and lots of fishing)! Lets get together and talk about it.

Put my dog down yesterday - Life sort of sucks.

There are no words that I can say to you that will make things better, I sure wish there was! The best I can do is say a little prayer. Consider that done. -

I'm glad I managed to get home from work in time for your visit. It was nice to see you both again. Now you know what I was talking about when I said you could hardly get a boat through the weeds they are so thick this year and there is no way you can fish off the dock.
-
Thanks! I'll be looking into them for the winter.

Since I hope to be doing a lot more ice fishing this year, what would you suggest are the best tire for the deep snow? I did manage to get stuck once last winter in a huge snow drift. I just plain got hung up but for an old guy even once is too much! I put snow tires on my car, and that sure makes a big difference. Why not my ATV?

Oh I'll keep voting no doubt about it. I would just hate to see her loose to someone that had to cheat! Where is the honor in that? -

Medical files- COMPLETELY NON FISHING!!!!!!
Big Cliff replied to Headhunter's topic in General Discussion
I might be way off base here but if I understand correctly these are YOUR files and you need to get them moved to another Dr.. If so, I would show up at the Dr.s office where the files are and ask for them, they are your files right? Can they refuse to show them to you? Then I would sit there with my digital camera and take a picture of every page in the file (and or explain that if they would rather just have you leave with YOUR files you'd be happy to oblidge them) Now if they want to call the police, I would offer to dial the number for them because they are holding files which are your property for a ransom as I see it. You aren't trying to steal anything, I'll bet there are no copy rights on any of those pages, I'd feel very sorry for the poor cop that had to respond but I have a feeling you'd get your files. Lastly, if that doesn't work, go to the media, I can tell you some stories about the Min. of Health; Dr.s and the media that would make your head turn! Someday when I have time I'll tell you about how Sue laid in an ICU unit for a month waiting for heart surgery until I threatened to get the media involved. She had her surgery within two days after that! Someone had screwed up! -
Crap, I thought he was talking about MY Spirit and motovation LOL!

Well, I am on my second Polaris. First one lasted me about 10 years and I put that machine through places that a man couldn't walk. I hauled trees out of the bush (and I'm talking 40' poplar with a 12 - 14" butt and green), drove through mud holes that other machines were stuck in, and even pulled some of them out. It was an Explorer 300 and until the day I drove it into a mud hole that was over the handle bars, it never let me down. Even then, when the water and mud was drained out of the cylinders and crank case the stupid thing started and ran just like it had never been submerged. I traded it in and bought a new Sportsman 500 in 2006. That machine like the first is beyond belief! 18 of us went on a ride last fall, we went through mud holes and bush that a moose wouldn't go through. I ended up pulling a Yahama for the last 35 or 40 km (I'm not trying to run down Yamaha, his starter quit and his engine kept stalling) but I had no problem driving my Polaris and towing him through some really rough crap. And I am not bragging when I tell you that there were other machines getting stuck in some of the holes I was towing the Yahama through. The facts! Nothing but the facts! In my opinion the Polaris is the work horse of ATVs, many if not most of the other makes are faster but if you want a machine that will work like a horse for you then my choice would be the Polaris. The big secret to owning one of them is to keep it in Low(automatic) unless you are out and running the road, they like to have their RPMs up there when they are working. So, for ice fishing, pulling a hut, bringing in firewood or just a good reliable work horse, I don't think you'll go wrong with a Polaris. (although that Artic Cat disel looks good too but I haven't had a chance to do much more than test ride it)( I do have to admit though I did put it through some rough stuff and it did come out shining)If you want a sport bike Yamaha, or Honda, what ever you do, do not buy one of those "CTC/TSC" specials they won't stand up the way the brand names will. disclaimer: The opinions expressed by this writer do not necessarly reflect the opinions of the owners/operators of this board!

Now that guy is funny but I'll stick to my Sue's solution for when I come home tired and hungry I haven't been coming home for over 30 years for nothing!!!!!!
