I refuse to use the 407, they are the most arrogant I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. Good luck but you might as well tell your friend to just suck it up and pay because 407 don't care if it is their fault or not and our wonderful government gives them the right to do it!

From the song THREE WOODEN CROSSES By - RANDY TRAVIS "It's not what you take when you leave this world behind you. It's what you leave behind you when you go." It sounds like Hutch has left a lot of wonderful memories, and helped a lot of people! May he rest in peace.

Make sure tou have no ropes or anythng running to ground that they can climb, that will usually keep them from getting in.

Friday after noon I am making a left hand turn from the off ramp on 115/35 South onto Hwy 7 heading East. I have the green light, there cars stopped on my left and two cars on my right making a right hand turn. Just as my front bumper passes the center I heard a horn blaring from my right, I swung hard left and hit the brakes and this guy in a big Buik blew past me at well over 80. We were so close I'm surprised there wasn't paint transfer. He never even bothered to slow down. I was too shook up to go after him. Saturday we were getting ready to go out and our neighbour asked me if I wanted to go for a quick ride on their new sea doo. He had been asking for quite a while and we had a few minutes to spare so I jumped on with him and we went for a short ride up the Scugog river. At one point there were two smaller boats in front of us so Daren cut the throttle to slow down. All of a sudden we got hit from behind by this big speed boat with a guy, his wife, and kids. I was pretty upset. Started yelling at the guy he'd almost killed me, in fact his boat never made contact with me but he did take a nice size chunk out of the Gel coat about 16" from where my foot was. The guy turned out to be OK, was very apologetic and has agreed to pay for the repairs. Anyway I think I've just used up two of my nine lives in two days.

Seeking OFN Community support for my Daughter
Big Cliff replied to Spiel's topic in General Discussion
You can count on my support -
Were you on Sturgeon Lake last Sunday morning in a red canoe, 3 males, an electric trolling motor? Perhaps they didn't understand and in light of some of the stuff that has gone down in the past, perhaps they didn't want to. I was just trying to be polite and friendly. The only reason I asked the question is because I wanted to make sure I hadn't said something that could be construed as disrespectful without knowing I had done it and I trust my fellow OFNr's enough to tell me if I did.

one of these days Roy, one of these days! LOL

I would love to get out but I doubt I'll be doing any fishing for the next few weeks. I have to work this morning, company BBQ tonight, then Sue and I are away next weekend and the weekend after that. We'll have to work on something for September.

For sure it didn't matter to me where they were from and the only reason I mentioned that they were Asian was because sometimes words in one language can sound like something totally different in another language. It only bothered me because I was concerned that I might have unknowingly said something offensive to them. I did sort of wonder how they even got there and none of them seemed to understand even basic English or a smile and a nod even if they didn't understand the words.
-
I almost hate to ask this but to be honest it has been bothering me for a week now. Do the words in English "Good morning, any luck?" even translate into something rude in any Asian language? I'm not trying to be a smart ass here or anything but here is the situation and I do truly want to understand. last weekend I managed to sneek out for one of my rare fishing trips Sunday morning. I went to an area that I haven't fished before but thought might hold some fish. When I got there (this is a big open area) there was a canoe with three Asian looking men already fishing so I went about 300 yards past them and anchored. A few minutes later they pulled up their anchor and came over my way and passed within about 20' of me. I smiled, waved, and asked said "Good morning, any luck?" They made some comments to each other in a language that I didn't understand and looked at me like I had two heads, ignored me and proceeded to drift fish around me for a while until I decided to leave. This isn't a rant! I would really like to understand. It was a very uncomfortable feeling.

Rude fishermen infringe on cottage enjoyment
Big Cliff replied to FlyGuy5's topic in General Discussion
LOL, you can come fish my dock any time you want, I never have a problem with people that respect the rights of others. In fact most OFNr's know that if they ever need a port in a storm, a place for a pit stop, or just about anything else, they can come tie up to our dock anytime! We have been very blessed to have many come and sit right on our dock and fish/visit with us. -
Rude fishermen infringe on cottage enjoyment
Big Cliff replied to FlyGuy5's topic in General Discussion
I'll second that! I find it interesting that most of the people that like to fish docks think cottage/home owners should be considerate of their desire to fish the docks but they don't think they should be considerate of the owners right to enjoy a little privicy. Perhaps some of the people fishing the docks should own a place on the water for a while and get to experience some of the we do have to put up with at times. And yes, it only takes a few to give the rest a bad name! -
Floating logs pose danger in Callander Bay
Big Cliff replied to kickingfrog's topic in General Discussion
I hit one of those floating logs in the French River (actually it was in Flower Pot Bay which is part of the French). We didn't have a chance, you couldn't see it in the water at all until it was too late and we were only running a 15 on a cedar strip. We actually went air borne and all I can say is I'm glad we were in a cedar strip! In the past few years I have pulled several large logs out of Sturgeon Lake in the summer. I think it might have something to do with sun light and water temperature causing bacteria to grow or something because as soon as the water cools back down they seem to sink again. Anyway, no matter what body of water you are on you shouldn't ever "ASSUME" it is safe, wear your PFD even if the weather is good. Here today and gone tomorrow doesn't just refer to those logs! -
Got to meet GBW today, what a nice young man, we had a chance to sit and chat for a while, I really enjoyed it! Then just as I was about to leave he told me to wait a moment and he disapeared and when he came back, he had a piece of smoked walleye for me to try. WHAT A TREAT! It was the best smoked walleye I have ever tasted. Then, just when I thought things couldn't get any better, he handed me a filet to bring home. Thank you so much Geoff for the wonderful conversation and that beautiful piece of smoked fish (some of which didn't make it home LOL). Talk to you soon my friend!

You mentioned you "cleaned the fuel filter" try replacing it before you do anything else. let me know how that works for you.
-
You had better now LOL!
-
Be glad you still have him with you! I'd be giving anything to have mine with me today!
-
You guys can all bugger off! My favorite foods in the world are cold smoked salmon, fish jerky of almost any kind (lots of salt)hot smoked fish (almost any kind) and shell fish of any kind, Bouillabaisse..... Now I have to sit down to BBQd ribs for supper and dream of all these beautiful fish dishes.

Minor detail, until you want to drive away LOL.

Well, get ready to take one LOL. Turns out you have to step on and hold the brake pedal then push down on the parking brake pedal and release it! Don't even ask me how I figured that one out, it's funny what desperation will do for you!!!! Anyway thanks for trying!
-
Thanks, If I had the owners manual here I wouldn't be bothering you guys LOL! I'm going to give the pedal a try if it doesn't work I'll be
-
Are you SURE? if I put the parking brake on and can't release it I am going to have one very un happy friend!!!
-
OK, I need help. A friend just got a 2007 Saturn Aura, fully loaded. Where to heck is the parking brake release? I looked down bt the parking brake pedal, all I can see is the hood release, anyone know for sure where the parking brake release is?

They are all good roasted over a slow fire, only problem is that I don't get to see many of them twice! (Just kidding, it's been one of those days LOL)

Such true words!!!! Any SMART employer will take experience over education. I often had university grads come and apply to me for jobs, some of them couldn't even fill out a resume. One of the smartest men I ever knew had a grade 2 education!
