Well, I was going to head out about noon
Big Cliff replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
Naw, I have a kick ass snow blower sitting here that a customer hasn't come back to pick up yet, I had to test it out just to make sure everything worked properly LOL. Besides I wouldn't ask him to drive out here just to clean my driveway especially when I don't think it's safe to go out fishing in this stuff. I like this young man, I want to keep him around for a while! -
In my business I deal with all kinds of food establishments often from before they even open the doors for the first time. Some, you just know aren't going to make it, they don't have a clue. It is a shame because many of them have their dreams shattered mostly because of poor management. Some open their doors without even doing any market research, some with no financial backing. People that start a cafe and their only experience is that they once worked as a waitress. It is a tough industry but if you serve a good quality product, have excellent service and fair prices you have a fighting chance. A good example is a place here in Lindsay, St. Dave's Dinner. Dave opened in a little out of the way hard to find place but he insisted that everything he served would be quality. It didn't take long and it was standing room only, you had to line up just to get in for lunch. Even his coffee had to be the best, his logic, save a penny loose a customer you do the math. Dave just opened a new place on Hwy. 36 here in town, it is much bigger than the last one but still packed to the doors from morning to night. This is in the same place that the former owners couldn't make a go of it because of a lack of business. The difference; quality, portions, service, and fair prices. Oh, and he is within sight of a Tim Hortons. By comparison what had been a busy coffee shop here in town got bought up by some people from out of town. The husband who in my opinion wouldn't know a good cup of coffee from used motor oil decided that he could save about $0.02 a cup by going to a lower quality coffee and it was good coffee!!!! (in his opinion) It only took about a month but now if you go in there you might find two or three people when it's busy. Their entire focus has turned to buying the cheepest they can of everything regardless of quality. It is sad, his wife is a wonderful person but hubby said! If you want the best quality food and service at the best prices, go where the locals go. If you are going somewhere new, google it and read the reviews if there are any.

Just got back in the house, visibility about 700' max. Since I wouldn't be able to see shore from where I wanted to try today I decided it might be better to just sit tight. I'd hate to get into any kind of trouble out there especially when I have a friend along and be in a situation where I couldn't get help. So I called my buddy and cancelled, we'll get out another day! Good kid, he's cool with it but still wanted to know if he should come over and clean my drive way for me anyway. Safety first, there will be lots more days to get out fishing!

As you walked from the canal in which direction? Going East on the right is Cow & Sow, they have super ribs and stuff but aren't known for much else than their beer. Going West there isn't much, Texas burger, a couple of small places but nothing that I can think of that stands out, not on the main street anyways. Now just off the main street there are a couple of good places.

Then you are both lucky people! Born from the same cloth!

The people on this board never cease to amaze me. I recently sold my AquaVu to Wayne. He made me an offer that I accepted, the deal was that I would pay the freight. The cheque arrived today and he had added in the cost of the freight, his reasoning: I'd be ripping you off if I didn't cover the freight! Now that is a class act!!!!! Most other people would have just smiled as they put the extra money in their pocket. A true gentleman as always Wayne! Thank you!

The family got me a 4 man SubZero for Christmas and I really love it. A little black cat heater in it and we were very comfortable. Now it is rated as a 4 man but two of us with our gear and the heater was just right, 4 would be crowded. CTC has them on special quuite often for about $100.00 off so they aren't a bad deal.

I bought some chinese food from a local Lindsay restaurant one time, previous experiences had been quite good. When I got home with my order, the food was lousy, no, it was REALLY bad. I went back the next day (1/2 an hour drive each way)with the food and asked to see the manager, he wasn't in so I asked that he call me. He did call the next day and I explained that we had got food there many times before and it was always excellent but this was just not up to the standards we had come to expect from them. He apologized and told me he had all new staff from Toronto and was having problems with them and if I would come back he would give me replacement food. I told him that I would love to come back but that I would appreciate it if he would call me when he had his staff straightened out because I really didn't want more of the same. He promissed he would. That was two years ago and I still haven't heard from him nor have I gone back again. Unfortunatly if you want good chinese food in Lindsay I would suggest you go to Fenelon Falls! Now there is quality!

Thank you all so much for the kind words, PMs, and text messages! Princess, thank you so much for the beautiful poem, I really enjoyed it! I have been looking forward to this day for a long time, I feel like I am entering my second child hood, don't need a fishing license, the government sends me money every month just for being here, Sue keeps telling me to grow up and that I already have enough toys LOL. Anyway, thanks again one and all, it really made my day!

Officer Killed in the Line of Duty
Big Cliff replied to fishing n autograph's topic in General Discussion
I am thinking that the Highway of heros shouldn't be reserved for just fallen armed forces personel. This man was a hero in life and died serving and protecting. My heart goes out to his family and friends! -
Only if he took me fishing with him!

Skeeter is the man! Now, I'd like a hut like that! do you have the plans? Can Skeeter come with it?

It would be a 4 stroke, no oil gas mix but the ethanol in gas can cause it to turn to varnish and that will gum things up. Draining out all the old gas from the lines and carb and putting fresh gas in will often desolve the varnish and solve the problem. However, if there is a recall on the carb then that would be the best bet because the shop will have to install it and start the unit for you.
-
Our condolences to you and your family, Rick.

Before you go putting a new carb on that thing: Disconnect the fuel line at the carb and flush the line, even if the tank was empty the line could have had gas left in it. On the bottom of the bowl there should be a little drain valve to drain the bowl (just push up on it with your finger and hold to drain). that will allow the float to drop and open the needle valve (unless it is really stuck) fill system with fresh fuel WITH STABILIZER and you should be good to go.

Man dies after snowmobile plunges through ice
Big Cliff replied to Grimace's topic in General Discussion
LOL Wayne, I've run open water on a sled just to see if I could do it. I made it and we all had a good laugh and re told the story many times. It only becomes a tradgity when you don't make it. I just don't see the point in calling someone an idiot because they made an error in judgement. -

Yes and if you had hit a bad spot and gone through and drowned you'd then be classed as an idiot too by some standards. I'm glad it didn't happen to you and I know you would never go where you "thought" the ice wasn't safe. But that is why they are called accidents! -

Does it always have to degrade to this? Someone dies because of a tragic mistake and they are idiots! Have you never sped? Have you never taken a chance? Have you never done something just for the thrill of it? Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone! -
You lived right beside the Chicken Ranch? Lucky you!!!!
