LOL, this from a guy that calls me and asks "can you hear that?" "what do you think it is?" Art, you are just too funny my friend!
-
Bernie, you could be right here, I'm not 100% sure. I got the feeling that he was talking about the stator bolts being loose. If it is the flywheel gap then .010 would work just fine, the specs call for .015 but to be honest in the shop a tight .012 shim would have been used. It is always hard to give someone advice based on limited knowledge! I love to help people but as you and I both know the sound, feel, smell, and yes, sometimes just plain intuition play an important part in trouble shooting. How do you explain those things to someone else LOL.

Anyone need one of these? - Jiffy Ice Auger

Don't you just have to change the auger to go from 8 to 10"? -
not that it matters a whole lot but the H70 or 80 actually refers to the cubic inch displacement not the hp. H70 .050" And you are welcome!
-
OK, the modle number of that engine should be stamped into the blower housing. If you are right about it being an 8 hp the modle # will be H80, HM80, or HHM80 in which case the timing dimension BTDC will be .090". If it is anything but one of the above modles let me know because it can range from as low as .035" depending on which modle it really is. Trying to explain this is like trying to tell someone how to ride a bike.It is easier to do than it is to explain LOL.

Sorry, hit the wrong button: Lew this is from the MNR site. DEER FEEDING NOT NECESSARY THIS WINTER The Ministry of Natural Resources reminds you that it is not necessary to feed local deer this winter. There is abundant natural food available this year such as twigs and foliage. The ministry asks people not to feed deer because: • Using the wrong feed can result in digestive problems. People may inadvertently do more harm than good through improper feeding practices. • Feeding may encourage more deer in an area than the habitat can support. This can result in poor reproduction, smaller fawns, and, ultimately, higher winter mortality rates. • Deer-vehicle collisions often occur as deer cross roads to and from feeders. Deer that come to feeders may lose their natural fear of humans and become a problem in summer gardens. • A concentration of deer around artificial feeders can tempt natural predators of deer such as wolves to change their natural habits and come closer to populated areas. • Concentrating deer in an area increases the risk of disease transmission between animals. Although Chronic Wasting Disease has not been found in Ontario, there are concerns that encouraging concentrations of deer increases the risk and speed of disease transmission. In other areas of North America where Chronic Wasting Disease is a concern, concentrating deer at feeding stations is discouraged. Deer can store fat in the summer months and successfully process that fat in the winter, adding natural foods as needed. If deer become dependent on artificial feed, their metabolic rate increases and they need even more food. When artificial feeding stops, deer can die from the resulting stress. In areas where natural food is plentiful, supplemental feeding may do more harm than good. For more

OK, step by step: 1) Turn the engine over until rubbing block on points is on high side of cam. 2) Set points at .020 with piston at TDC (should be about 4° BTDC but you really need a dial indicator to do that). 3)Rotate the stator until the points just break (you can use an OHM meter or continuity light if you have them) Tighten the stator bolts! If you are confident that the points were set properly before, just go to step 3

Been having a lot of trouble seeing the last little while; found out I have cataracts and they have progressed very quickly to the point I have to have them removed. I go to see the surgeon on Jan. 10 and I guess that is when they will set a date for the surgery. I know that it is a very safe proceedure but the idea of someone messing around in my eyes sort of bothers me. a friend told me there is a new lense that they may be able to use and I will never need glasses again. cost is about $1400.00/eye though.

OK, PM me your email address and I'll send you PDFs of the pages you need with step by step instructions. If that doesn't do it for you, you'll just have to make a road trip over here.

I have to be honest, I am going to have to dig through my manuals because I can't see what it is that you are trying to explain. I must be missing something. Any of the ones I have ever worked on have a pivot screw and a locking screw. You adjust the plate so that your points are set then tighten the locking screw and pivot screw. It is so much easier when you have it in front of you lol. let me do some digging and I'll see what I can find.

Thanks, I now have a new toy on the way LOL. I have flashers and cameras but my hds5 has all the charts and everything so it should be super for ice fishing plus I marked a bunch of spots this summer that I thought might be good for hard water.
-
Where did you buy your PPP-161 ice fishing pack? I am interested in getting one for my HDS5

I'll look forward to your call Simon

Don't let me scare you off. To start with you are going to have to serve a three year apprenticeship. Since you probably don't have any experience you are going to have to start out at minimum wage or something close to that. It usually takes about a year before you can start school but EI will pay you while you attend and there can be travel and or living allowances available for the 3 months you are going to school every year. Once you have finished your schooling and you write your test and get your license as a marine mechanic you should be able to get about $25.00/hour but that is probably going to be seasonal. There is lots of work available in the off season if you want it, sleds, snow blowers, you name it. Yes, you can make a decent living at it if you are any good but you have to realize that handing a guy a $400.00 bill for doing repairs on his car is one thing. Handing a guy a $400.00 bill for fixing his lawn tractor or his outboard doesn't usually go over so well. I just did a job on a snow blower for a friend of mine. New auger bushings, wheel bushings, friction disc, skid plates, impeller bearing, spark plug, belts, welded up the blower housing, tore apart the gear box to replace the key in the pinion gear, drained and cleaned the fuel system, changed the oil, and fixed a leaking tire. Parts cost $186.00 Now what do you think I should charge for labour; (I'm not charging him anything, as I said he is a friend) but by the time I checked everything over found out what parts I needed, ordered the parts, put everything back together (oh, and the bolt that holds the pulleys on to the impeller shaft stripped so I had to drill that out and re tap the hole) started, tested, and fine tuned it, I have about 5-6 hours into it. If I had spent 5 or 6 hours working on a car he would expect to pay 4-500 in labour but you'd never get that on a small engine job. Can you make a good living as a small engine/marine mechanic, yes, you can but you are going to have to specialize, work hard and study a lot.

You guys are just too much! I know that if I NEED a hand with anything a gang of you would be here in a heart beat like when I needed a hand with my docks a few years ago, 16 people showed up on a cold windy day and bingo, the docks were done. I am thinking of this as more of an opportunity for a younger person to have a place they can come to, hang out, help out, and get a chance to do some fishing/hunting/whatever. Simon; I can appreciate your consern. I have never been in jail, I've never even been arrested, heck I haven't even had a parking ticket in more than 30 years LOL. I like to fish and hunt, I've spent most of my life out doors and more than anything I enjoy helping people. If you and your son (and your wife) would like to come for a visit we'd love to have your company. Give me a call 705-328-0577. OH and CPH I think the girls have been planning something. I know I am tied up the 27, 28, and 29, my son and daughter-in-law are coming down but after that, I am free for the whole winter.

I am just leaving to go out for the evening, but send me a picture. [email protected] I'll get back to you tomorrow.
-
Excellent thought! I'll look into it! Thank you!
-
Our thoughts and prayers go out to each and every one of you! Peace on Earth! Cliff and Sue.
-
You can't sit in mine but if you want to come and help me build a couple you can hunt with me!
-
Turn engine over until rubbing block is on the high side of the cam. Set Points to .020 thou. That should do it for you.

You have probably hit the nail right on the head but before I got him to try and pull that flywheel off I thought I'd better get more information. Sometimes those flywheels can be a bugger if you don't know what you are doing. Mess up the threads on the crank shaft and you can have a real problem LOL.

OK, here is the deal. I already have a son (and a daughter) and I love them both dearly but they both live several hours drive from me and I don't get to see them very often. I love to fish but I am starting to find it hard to get out there and drill holes and maintain the boat and everything by myself so.... I am looking for someone in the Lindsay area that likes to fish, wouldn't mind helping out around here a bit, maintaining the boat, putting in the docks, drilling some holes, whatever! I am not looking for someone to do all the work, just help out, I'm getting old but I ain't dead yet LOL. In return I can offer the use of a boat, quad, portable fishing hut, auger, all sorts of electronics, well you name it, I probably have it LOL. Interested?

Ok, we have an opportunity coming up in the Oshawa area. The company I have been working for has been growing extreamly well over the past year and now we are just too busy for me to handle all the sales by myself so we need to hire someone that lives in that area. You should enjoy meeting people, have a good background in sales, be willing to work both on your own and as part of a team. You must have your own car but a car allowance will be provided. this is a salary + comissions (and they are very generous). If you are interested, please send your resumes to [email protected] or if you have any questions, you can give me a call 705-328-0577
