  1. Let us know! We've missed your posts!
  2. A very special thank you to a fellow OFNr (you know who you are) who in response to my post about going fishing for rainbows; Set me up with bait, loaned me his own rod and tackle, took me to one of his favorite spots, set everything up for me and left me to fish for as long as I wanted. The end result was a nice 8-10 lb rainbow and two more misses under what I am sure weren't ideal conditions. The kindness of our members is legendary! It won't be forgotten! Big Cliff
  3. No Beans I don't think they are, besides, there are no trout left in them, they haven't restocked in years.
  4. Sounds like a good first date!
  5. X2 We the tax payer have already paid for them through the nose, I really don't want to see them scrapped for the metal. Lets put them to some good use!
  6. Can't help you with where to eat but I'm anxious to hear how the first date went
  7. Thank you! That really cleared a lot of it up!
  8. I should have put my phone number on my tackle box last year so when they stole it out of my garage they could have called me to return it! Actually though it is a good idea, if you found something like that out on the ice where would you start to look for the owner even if you did want to return it.
  9. Size 10 boots XXL for the belly LOL. Many Many thanks to those that took the time to PM me! It is very much appreciated!
  10. Won't be posting results on line, won't be taking anyone else with me or telling anyone else where to go. Just want to go for an evening fish and perhaps catch a small rainbow for Sue for supper. Don't have waders, would appreciate any help, please PM me if you care to share. Will gladly return the favor if I ever can! Leaving from Lindsay and heading South tomorrow afternoon/evening
  11. They will be hungry, it usually doesn't end well when they start coming that close to humans.
  12. Had a problem with red squirrels getting into our attic too. Pellet gun and rat traps took care of that! Coons can be a real problem if they get in, as others have said the damage they can cause can be very expensive to fix! $400.00 for coon proof vents could be a good investment!
  13. Yes, all our receivers went down one day so I called them and they said sorry, we'll fix that tight away. Then they asked me to go to receiver #1 and tell them what the code was, I did and within seconds it started working again. Same thing with receivers 2 and 3. When it came time to do receiver 4 and 5 I explained that they weren't at this location and that is when the crap hit the fan so to speak. Oh, and mine weren't plugged in to the phone line either.
  14. I do tend to give my guns a whipe down with WD 40 when I am finished with them for the day (most of the time LOL) perhaps that is why they have continued to serve me well.
  15. The "redesigined" is the only part I have any conserns about! To me it sounds like a NEW gun without a track record. Don't get me wrong, I can't find fault with it because I have never used it but the 870 I do have has been swimming, burried in mud, dropped, bounced, left out in the rain and has never miss fired once in the probably 20 years I've had it! Doesn't mean it is the best gun for the money but I've never had a reason to use anything else.
  16. Ok, I'm old and not very smart but wasn't there some systems a few years back called Pansat/Vusat (and a few others) that did the same sort of thing? Next thing I heard was Bell had figured out how to block them. Now I would love to have a system where I could watch what ever I wanted to when ever I want to but as I said, I'm not too smart so having a system where I have to "fiddle" with it or make adjustments to it probably isn't going to work for me. (the remote would probably be burried in the TV screen in short order) That said I may not know the answers but I sure know where to find them! I need to be able to operate three TVs all at the same time; one in Sue's craft room, one in the living room, and one in the family room. I do have high speed internet (unlimited) but I don't want to run it through my computer (because I have enough trouble figuring that out by itself). So, what do I need? Who on here would be willing to come hook it all up and set it all up and teach a couple of old farts how to work it? How much would it cost me? Would you be willing to trade labour for fishing time? Oh and as long as Sue can get her soaps and I can get the local news and weather everything else is a bonus! Big Cliff AKA Old Cliff Last heard from on Sturgeon Lake Kawarthas
  17. Well the Remington 870 12 ga is a good solid gun and within your budget or the Remington 20 ga Wing master. I have both (not for sale though) and both have served me well for many years!
  18. I had a bell dish and receiver up at our trailer in French River and another one at a hunt camp I share with my son-in-law. Bell called me one day and told me that all receivers had to be at the same location or I had to have seperate accounts so they shut down the other receivers on me. I didn't like Bell before, I really don't like them now! Fiber will be getting installed here this spring and Bell can KMA.
  19. That is wonderful to hear! I know I need to do the same thing, but it is one tough fight for me, I just don't have the will power to stick with it I guess. For most of my life I weighed about 145 lbs, now I'm 240 and no matter what I try to do I just can't get it off and keep it off. It isn't that I don't eat healthy, my wife and I eat the same foods (well she eats smaller portions) she weighs 145. Anyway I'm really glad to hear you are getting a handle on it! Keep up the good work or you'll end up like me!
  20. Good for you and getting a great deal! I had an old Stevens pump 12 ga many years ago, wasn't a fancy gun by a long shot but if it flew and I shot, it dropped! I ended up selling it when I moved to Toronto with the understanding that I could buy it back some day. Unfortunatly the fellow I sold it to passed away and one of his kids took it and I never saw it again. I did buy a Remmington 870 and it has served me well but that old Stevens and I were just made to fit! Hope you really get a lot of use and enjoyment out of your new purchase!
  21. Isn't it funny how what works for one doesn't work for another? I've tried the Gulp minnows and didn't do well on them at all and knocked the heck out of the crappie with the FinS ones. I wonder how all the variables affect the productivity of any given bait. Hook size, line weight, line color, even the type of line. I have seen this with a lot of different baits over the years to the point where I have had two rods rigged with exactly the same bait but different line combinations, the one rod would be producing, the other rod wouldn't get a hit. Even how you tie some lures on to your line seems to make a huge difference. I have one lure that I love to use for spring walleye, if I attach it with a swivel I'll still get some fish but if I tie it directly on to the line it will out fish live bait every time (Beans can tell you, he has seen it first hand). We have even had two guys fishing side by side with the same lure, one guy hamering them, the other guy lucky to get a hit. I remember fishing in Quinty one spring with a very good friend, (side by each in the same boat) he couldn't get a hit for love or money and I was just pounding them. I finally took my lure off and gave it to him, he still couldn't get a hit. Only thing different was our line/rod configuration. I'd love to know the science behind all of this! I have seen it happen too often for it to just be blind luck!
  22. Can't comment on your current choices but The Heat with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy was one that both Sue and I really enjoyed!
  23. Doesn't matter, they were both stupid, him for being an idiot and her for taking a video while driving and especially in a dangerous situation. They are both lucky no one got killed because of it! It really doesn't matter if you are wrong or right if you are dead!
  24. I still see it here all the time, people either texting or talking on their cell phones while they are driving.
  25. Only problem I find with live bait for crappie is that you spend more time rebaiting your hook than you do catching fish. The FinS minnows work just as well and stand up to a lot of bites. I hook them through the head so every twitch on the line makes them look like they are darting, works like a charm for me anyway!
