  1. You see a problem, I see bear steaks on the BBQ! X2 Clean to you might be spotless! To him it probably smells like a Buffet! Even a fool knows you don't get between Big Cliff and a buffet, bears can move faster than I can!
  2. People are often surprised at how fast one of those big buggers can move!!!! Just be glad it decided to go the other way. When startled you can never be sure if it is going to be fight or flight. At about 50'/second you always want to hope it's flight!
  3. Very cool! Must be some food around the area to be keeping them around.
  4. Always a very sad day when we have to make that final trip and it always leaves me feeling like I have let them down some how. I am so very sorry for your loss!
  5. We thought we had a problem with a red squirrel two years ago so I shot it. Next day we saw another one so I shot it. Long story short, we ended up shooting and trapping (rat trap) 9 of them. Last year we ended up doing away with 11 of them. So far this year I have only seen two, one was dispatched, the other has been avoiding the house and as long as it keeps away from the house it will live. If you are seeing one, there are probably several!
  6. Guess that is why true happiness has always eluded me. I care too much about my fellow man/woman!
  7. And where in my post did you get the impression that I like to leave the choice to anyone? Where in my post did you get the impression that I don't want to vote? I am trying my very best to make an informed decision here but I have a real problem trying to seperate truth from lies! I am asking for help from some very bright young minds to help me decide how best to cast my vote so that it is not wasted and actually does something to help our country and our province!
  8. OK, so please help answer an old man's question! I come from an eara where a man's word is his bond but saddly that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. I know I'll get nailed for this but IMHO, Wynne has violated the laws of nature male/female and she is proud of it! Well, good for her and it is her right to do so but is that really the kind of person I want running this province? She doesn't represent my views! She has also proven herself a liar, how many billions of our $ can she piss up against the wall until we have had enough? Oh but wait; she came out of the closet so that is as Ok as a priest sexuality assualting kids. NOT IN MY BOOKS! Last winter I called our local PC office and asked what plans they had in place to help the seniors that were put in a prediciment over heat/food. Not their problem, call the United Way! Has our society reduced itself to a system where when the goverment has taken everything they can and we are forced to starve or freeze, we should go to food banks or charities? Who is left to vote for? The Green Party; PITA? The NDP (remember Bob Rae). We are screwed no matter how we vote, thank god I am not going to be around much longer to have to deal with this and when you think about it; that is really sad!
  9. Call me because I don't post fishing results on here anymore! I have been pounding them! (but not in the lake I live on)
  10. We had a 7 year old land a 43" muskie off our dock with a Spiderman fishing rod. There were a few tense moments as she screamed "it's going to pull me in the water"! Dad had to net it for her but she got it to the dock! Glad to hear your young lad is getting some fish, won't be long and he'll be out fishing dad LOL.
  11. Good point, I didn't think of that, we use to just go get our own in the bush!
  12. X2 When I lived in French River we use to use sphagnum moss for transporting and storing our worms. We would often use it in our coolers to help keep our fish if we were going to be out for a few days. Ice on the bottom of the cooler, (if you have it) otherwise rocks from the shore line (in the water) will also be nice and cool and can be used in the cooler, a layer of moss, fish, and repeat. The moss is an excellent insulator and holds moisture. In the French, we knew where there were springs that use to freeze into beautiful water falls in the winter, we could often still find ice there in July and in Elliott Lake we knew where there were some old mine shafts and could often find ice in them (I am not suggesting you go into ANY old mine shafts) but we knew where there were some that held ice within a few feet of the entrance. As lew said if you can bury them in a shaded spot that will help too but you have to be careful, they do need air so don't bury them in a small sealed container.
  13. You might want to read some reviews on it before you spend the money. They weigh more and I have worked on some of the 4 stroke trimmers, not fun!
  14. Straight shaft for sure on the trimmer. Echo has a 5 year consumer warranty,
  15. The guy probably just thought he was doing his good deed of the day by getting it off the road and saving it's life. There are much better places for them to lay their eggs than the sholder of the road but it was good of both of you to want to do the right thing.
  16. Well, it is really going to depend on how old your house/septic system is for starters. When we wanted to build our deck we had to get a building permit and we had to get a letter from the Health Dept. stating that in their opinion our deck wouldn't interfear with our field bed. According to the health inspector the field bed shouldn't be closer than 17' of the main structure (if it was built to code and a lot of the older ones weren't) and since our deck posts/footings were goung to be 10' from the main structure we were good to go! I doubt that a survey would show your field bed, X-ray (if it would work) would be very expensive. I would talk to your local Health Dept. and your Building Dept. before you go spending a lot of money. Oh and if I were you, as a priority I would find that tank and have it pumped! If it is that hard to find you can bet it hasn't been done in a long time, do it BEFORE you have a problem!
  17. I have lived on Sturgeon Lake for 12 years now and I have never heard of it, I would be interested in knowing too.
  18. I am so glad to hear you got it figured out and no injuries other than perhaps your pride LOL.
  19. As HTHM said but to elaborate just a bit. When you turn the blade it turns the crank shaft which also turns the flywheel. As the magnets on the flywheel pass the coil it generates a spark and turning it by hand could cause it to fire (if the kill switch isn't working for whatever reason) at which point the blade is now going to be spinning much faster than you could remove your hand from the area (typically around 3000 RPM or 50 RPS X 2 ends of the blade). I just don't want to see you get hurt so at least get someone who knows what they are doing to help you, if you were closer I'd just get you to bring it here and I'd be happy to help out.
  20. Good to know, I have a dishwasher that needs some TLC and was having trouble finding parts. I will pay them a visit on Monday. Thanks for posting!
  21. I suspect the blade brake is engaged, the cable could be broken/disconnected or even stretched. There are a few other things that might cause it but spraying the blade with WD 40 isn't going to solve any of them. DO NOT try to turn it over by putting your hand on the blade, if it ever did fire you will loose your hand!!!!! It sounds like you are not familiar with lawnmower engines, get someone who is to look at it for you before you get hurt!
  22. You are not supposed to post on here if you catch any fish!
  23. One of my favorite cuts! I like it marinaded cooked medium rare and sliced nice and thin!
  24. Dara, they can go (I'm not allowed to say that here). I have paid my dues many times over and they just keep wanting more so they can fill their pockets. It is now a matter of principal for me I do have the right to fish without a license, I earned that right by working and surviving for the last 53 years. What's next, are they going to prevent businesses from offering seniors discounts so they can collect the tax on those too?
  25. Tried the French maid idea once, wife told me that by the time the divorce was over I wouldn't even have the cottage never mind the French maid. I think I'd scrap that idea if I were you. The map is a really good idea, I have seen many of them in friends cottages, you never get tired of looking at them! I nice sign would also work, many others have nice signs but their's would be unique! Good on you for taking the time to try to find the "perfect" gift, says a lot about your character!
