  1. That is just what friends do!
  2. I could spend a day helping clean things up, I can't do a lot of heavy lifting but I could help repackage stuff or things like that. I also have a generator and a chainsaw that I could bring with me if you need. Just let me know, I could probably be there in 2 hours or less! House is 705-328-0577 cell 705-928-8899
  3. Really sorry to hear that, I know how disheartning it can be. I hope you haven't lost too much! Cliff
  4. Love the way you mounted that rod holder Lew! Just gave me an idea. As for covers, don't cheep out, you'll regret it in the end!
  5. Suck it up buttercup, it only gets worse from here
  6. I had a Minkota that quit working and got it serviced (I think it was in Waterloo). If I remember correctly, it was very reasonable! It isn't worth anything if it doesn't work so get it fixed, sell it, and buy what you do want!
  7. Well, I don't want to use PT at all, I have a couple of retaining walls made out of those 3 X 5 mini ties, they lasted 10 years and are so rotten you can crush them with your hands. Won't be using them ever again! The top rails on both my front and rear decks are made of 2 X 6 PT, the wood is rotten where ever there is a joint (and yes we did paint the cut ends with PT stuff.) It seems that anywhere we had a flower pot or anything sitting on the wood it rotted. The decking is in pretty good shape for the most part, (no signs of rot anywhere) so that is why I am thinking of just replacing the top railings with cedar. I can get white cedar 2 X 6 locally for $1.55/' or red cedar from Castle Building Supply for $1.85/'. Other than a picnic table I built a couple of years ago with white cedar (which has stood up beautifully) I have never done much wood work so thought it best to seek the advice of the pros. I really don't think I want to spend a lot of money on some of these newer products when the rest of my decks are still going to be the old PT stuff.
  8. I have to replace some railings on my deck, the pressure treated stuff that was supposed to last 40 years hasn't lasted 12. I am trying to decide if I should use white cedar (about $0.20/foot less than red). From those in the know; is there any big advantage to using red over white? Should they be treated with a wood sealer(Grants or Thompsons)? If so, should it be all surfices or only the exposed ones? I would appreciate any help or info! Big Cliff As an after thought: I have used red cedar for BBQing salmon and trout, does white cedar work as well?
  9. Not a good excuse in my books, (sounds like sour grapes LOL) I am sure ED makes a very good product BUT! it isn't Heinz! That's it, I won't go to McD's ever again (well except for their coffee and muffins) (oh wait, that was the only reason I went there in the first place) ok, this shoukld be an easy one
  10. Isn't part of the reason for the closure that one of the big fast food chains dropped their product line, not sure but I think it might have been McD's.
  11. Glad to hear that he will survive. When I saw the bike it was in the South bound lane, no wonder it was such a mess, it must have gone over the guard rail! Just heard on the news that there was another bike accident right in the same area again today. Another goose perhaps?
  12. Milfoil is doing just fine! I was doing some reading on the weevils last year and apparently it takes about 3000 of them to the acre to be effective. With a surface area of about 16,800 acres it would take about 50,400,000 weevils and @ $1.00 per. Sounds like something only a Liberal government might consider reasonable!
  13. I'm sure it must be really hard: Cop shows up, there is a car in the ditch, there are skid marks on the road (we see plenty of them around here, kids trying to see how much rubber they can burn off a set of tires). I'll bet they hear every excuse going, what is the right decision
  14. Ok, you know what; everyone has had an opportunity to express their opinion and it is obvious that there are a variety of opinions and it is going to remain that way regardless! In light of the recent incident where an experienced rider hit a goose and is now in hospital in serious condition (but I am happy to report that while the recovery is going to be a long one he is expected to survive). My take on this is that "if your number is up, it is up". I would respectfully like to ask that this thread just gets locked as I can see no further constructive input on the subject.
  15. There have already been 7 this year. As for people realizing that booze and water don't mix; sorry but 37% of boaters admit to having a drink and operating their boat. Don't want a ticket, obey the rules!
  16. For the motorcycle cop that hit a goose on the 400/11 extension this morning. Last I heard he was in serious condition in Sunnybrook with his family by his side. I came onto the carnage minutes after it happened, there wasn't much left of the bike! He is an experienced motorcycle officer and a member of their Golden Helmets. Wishing him and his family all the best and hopfully a full recovery!
  17. I am sure he is, unfortunatly I can't make it but hopfully someone on here can take advantage of the opportunity!
  18. Really hard to give you a definative answer without actually being there to hear it but I think I would err on the side of caution and have it checked out by a certified tech.
  19. Sorry, might be dumb questions: What are you fishing for How much $ How many other people are going What is included, what do you need to bring? More information would help!
  20. Things just aren't always what they seem to be! The Light Turned Yellow..... The light turned yellow, just in front of him. He did the right thing, stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection. The tailgating woman was furious and honked her horn, screaming in frustration, as she missed her chance to get through the intersection, dropping her cell phone and makeup. As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window and looked up into the face of a very serious police officer. The officer ordered her to exit her car with her hands up.. He took her to the police station where she was searched, fingerprinted, photographed, and placed in a holding cell. After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the door. She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer was waiting with her personal effects. He said, "I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping off the guy in front of you and cussing a blue streak at him. I noticed the 'What Would Jesus Do' bumper sticker, the 'Choose Life' license plate holder, the 'Follow Me to Sunday-School' bumper sticker, and the chrome-plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk, so naturally....I assumed you had stolen the car."
  21. OK, I would go along with partially responsible, in fact I think I have been fairly clear on that right from my original post. The factors that I believe are relevent are: the car ahead of the motorcycle managed to avoid her; (I do believe a motorcycle is more manouverable than a car). The motor cycle hardly slowed down before impact, was he paying attention? We will never know because he can't tell us! It is a tradgy for all involved, I just hope that it doesn't continue!
  22. Just heard on the radio today that there has already been more water/alcohol related deaths this year than in all of last year! Just what we need, another police boat out of service!
  23. Had a banti rooster one time, had to shoot the bugger! He would chase anyone or anything that got too close to his hens. He weighed all of 2 or 3 lbs. I remember my son crying when my wife cooked it and put it on his plate. When I asked him what was wrong he said he couldn't eat it. I asked why and he said "it's too tough!". I tried it and he was right, that bird was just as tough dead and cooked as he was alive!.
  24. With all the taxes we now pay, who has any money in the bank?
  25. Ok, so we have: The outdoor card Small game license Turkey license Deer license Bear license Moose license Fishing license (I'm sure there have to be some that I have missed.) Where the heck is all this money going? When I turned 65 the one thing that I got as a perc was that I no longer have to buy the fishing license (Still need all the others though). Now they even want to take that away from me!
