If I'm not mistaken by the pictures you put up, you bought the boat with the busted merc off of kijiji. That looks more like a flats boat to me, but I suppose we are all entitled to take chances. I know I fished lake O from a 14 footer once in a while many years ago. I would think a 4 or 5 hp would be sufficient for emergency power on that rig, but I don't think I'd go to far off shore!

I don't think they are being unhelpful, just truthful. You said yourself that it's better but doesn't cut the same. I tend to agree with them, I've never found re sharpened auger blades to be near as good as brand new ones.

All they need to do is execute one player and the rest will fall in line lol. I honestly don't know why people bother watching. There is no incentive for the team to do well as the fan base will watch no matter how bad they do. They could all take the ice in jerseys that read "just in it for the money" and people would boo, but still line up for tickets.

I've been using a hitch pin for 2 years now. I figure if I can trust it to tow a sled weighing about 150lbs all over simcoe bumping and banging around all over the place, then it will probably hold up just fine to an auger. So far so good. I just took my auger bolt into home hardware and matched the size, and got one a little longer. Presto, instant quick release and it holds up just fine!

Buddy heater and little buddy on sale at princess auto.

Just have them call the Newmarket store for you. Princess Auto is very easy to deal with. If they are selling for that price at one store, I have no doubt they will honor it at another! The temptation was almost too much to buy one of the buddy heaters at that price, but I seem to be getting along pretty good with my little buddy so I held off. -
my new snowmobile, I mean ATV, (it will be fishing)

Pretty cool setup! -
Good question, I've been trying to decide what kind of charger to put in your old boat lol.

$68 for the buddy and $53 for the little buddy. I was just at Newmarket and they had a few out for anyone looking. -
When you get new ID to replace expired drivers licenses or health cards, place the old ones in your fire proof box, or whatever you keep important stuff in, and boom you at least have something! I always keep at least one set of expired ID for myself and my wife, along with old passports. It's been 20 years since I lost a piece of ID , but damn it I'm ready if I do. I haven't lost much down an ice hole, other than a couple steel scoops. I lost one cell phone steelheading , an FRS radio while duck hunting and one rod and reel combo while salmon fishing off a pier many years ago!

The one I bought is a clearance item, $13 perhaps they have discontinued them. The closest CT to me is Fergus and they have a half dozen of them on the shelf. Your mileage may vary depending on the store.

The one I have has a fan, some led lights and it runs off 3 AA batteries. It has a hook that folds out and I just hang it off a pole on the roof and you can change the direction of the fan wherever you want.

Nice, I have a little hub from eskimo (one of the old green ones). It's been pretty good to me also! That tent fan from CT makes all the difference. It lets me get away with a little buddy heater most of the time even in a fish trap guide, unless it's really freaking cold!

Absolutely true, and why I installed additional gable venting on my house this spring! It was amazing the extra heat they vented!

You need to change names from a handle to you real name so you can get your name out there, gain lots of followers, then start pimping lure lodges and gear. Once all this happens, you will eventually get yourself in a few magazines. This is the sure road to success these days. It can't happen until you lose the handle though dude, you heard it here first! I'm just going to step out and pick up some duct tape now!
-
Me too, I keep thinking I might rig up an adapter for my drill, but I have a gas auger too, so I never seem to get around to it lol!
-
Auger still cuts like the day I bought it! If I have to replace the cutting head one day, so be it! It doesn't owe me a penny. At the rate it's going though, I don't anticipate it any time soon unless I hit a rock or some crap in the ice!
-
I've got 8 seasons and a ton of holes on my Nils Master. I haven't had to replace the cutting head once. Don't bang the blades, don't open old holes, don't lend your auger, and give it a light coating of oil after every trip, if you do this with every auger no matter the brand, you will experience very prolonged blade life! I agree you are wasting your time trying to sharpen mora style blades. They are generally junk once they need a sharpen! Buy new, save the headache. Nothing worse than an auger that cuts poorly.

Glad your okay! Bad piece of luck.

Damn right!! Great trip, but don't piss off mom, particularly if things aren't great between you!

Navionics--what is the 'real' accuracy?
porkpie replied to SirCranksalot's topic in General Discussion
I've found it to be up to 5 feet off, and other times I've found it exact to the foot. I was looking for a small depression on simcoe a week ago, dropping from 20 to 32 foot of water and back. I walked straight on top of it, shot through with the sonar, and found the exact depth, and my buddy and I laughed and thought it was pretty good. Other times it's been a bit off. They are only as good as the cartographic data they have obtained. I find them to be accurate or close enough more often than not! -
Speeding can kill you. It is also illegal. In fact you are more likely to die in a car crash than from refilling propane bottles. People still speed, ergo your argument is invalid. LOL, I'm just having fun with you! There a lots of things that are illegal and people still do them every day, in the grand scheme of things, this is pretty minor. If you don't want to refill, that's cool, but let's not make a huge deal out of it, or we are going to have to start another thread about all the other illegal crap people do and live to tell the tale!

Get yourself a couple of hitch pins at the home hardware in town. Make sure they are the correct diameter and length, then slap one on the auger, and toss an extra in your tackle bag. Makes a great quick connect, and you always have a spare!

The ranger prices are out of this world no doubt. That said, I believe you have the right to spend as much of your money as you can afford on toys if that's your thing! I was considering new this year, and was ok with the idea of a payment. My wife actually encouraged this route, as she saw all the bells and whistles on the new rigs like the fold down jump seats, mp3 plug ins etc. She almost had me convinced, and then just like that I found a great ( unadvertised) deal through a member here on a Lund pike with a honda out back. I was able to pay cash with the down payment I would've put on the other boat, and no doubt it will last me a while! I agree with the guy who said you have to pay to play. It all depends how much you want to spend!

I have about the worst hands imaginable in the colder months. I got frostbite at work years ago on both hands, and they've never been the same since. It starts at the area that was frost damaged, and works out from there as soon as it gets cold. My wife started buying me Aveeno exzema care. Of all the creams I've tried, including the working hands stuff etc. this is the only one that has worked relatively well. Keeps my hands in reasonable condition, and soft enough that they don't crack as badly around the fingers and thumbs. Not cheap, but its worth a try, good luck!
