I use the stuff they sell as mainlane for leaders for years. Seaguar invisx or sunline super sniper are excellent and no problems with using as leader:

What kind of fluoro was it? I've had issues with saeguar Abrazax as well as the stren (or maybe it's suffix?) stuff Canadian tire puts on sale every year. Abrazax 6lb in my opinion ought to be rated 4lb at best. The Canadian tire stuff I could snap 15lb test with my hands. I've had excellent results with seauguar yellow box invisx I think they call it. Been using 200 yard spools for leader line for ages. I've also been using seaguar STS in 100 yard spools for a couple years now and it's tough as nails. I just ordered in a spool of 15lb for my pic trolling rods. I have also used sunline, and if there where somewhere near me that sold it regularily I would probably use it all the time, it is some very tough fluoro and abrasion resistant also. I was darn near flipping 5/6lb bows out of the water a couple years ago with the 7lb leader. Good stuff!

Fair enough Adam, I don't know your situation. I see your dilemma. I still think a boat of that age might be more trouble than it's worth but can understand why you'd be interested!

I've trailered 14 and 16 foot tin boats loaded with camping gear, bikes and god knows what else all over the countryside for many years. As long as you have a reasonably good condition trailer that you've maintained it is a non issue. My many many hours of actually doing it under real world conditions tell me that, and no one with a hypothesis that it might not work out will tell me otherwise.

Flat hats, tats, multicoloured float reels, fishbum sweaters, Instagram and Facebook photobombers, you've seen them bro, you've seen them...... bro.

Buy yourself a 14 foot tin boat with a 15hp motor and load it up. Do yourself a favour and don't buy a bass boat from 1974. I generally see those guys at the launch with the motor hood off looking disappointed. Not because an old boat can't run well, but because most boats of that vintage at this point haven't been very well looked after. It's a rare one that is.

Trolling is an art. If you want to catch pickerel, I suggest you either learn about bottom bouncing or inline weights to get you a few feet off bottom. Another very effective way to work a weed line is to drag a small worm harness behind a walking sinker along the weed edge. Pull it very slowly with the trolling motor, just enough to keep the blades spinning. You can also use a slow death hook, but in the kawarthas you will catch a lot of panfish doing this. You'll still get em on harnesses, but maybe not as much. You can easily work structure while trolling. You just need to mark it and fish a presentation that allows for sharp turns and rapid adjustment. A bottom bouncer or a 3 way rig trolled rod in hand and I can cross a piece of structure many times and work every inch of it. If I was trolling a plug with 100 feet of line out, it's not so easy. Again, many people consider trolling just throwing the junk in the water and waiting until you find fish. Sometimes (not always) on the Great Lakes that is all that it is. Most smaller feature packed lakes, and you will find specific areas that hold fish and then you need to pick away at them. It's not for everyone, but if you figure it out it can be very productive.

Power pro and 10lb trilene XL for almost everything. I do use fluorocarbon leader on the power pro if the water is clearer. I don't use fluoro to fill spools. I tried it once and it was more trouble than it's worth to me.

I troll for pickerel about 70 percent of the time. It's very effective, the rest of my time is spent vertical jigging or casting husky jerks in the spring. If you become a competent troller you can become very effective at catching pics (and plenty of bonus pike). But it's not just chucking a daredevil over the side and calling it good!

I have Berts, Scotties and salties. They all work. I have seen salties take some mega king hits on wore dipseys and never had them fail. I've also snagged bottom badly with my standard Scotties whir bottom bouncing with pretty tight drags and while I've seen the Scotties flex something fierce they've never failed. The Berts are nice. I don't have a lot of miles on mine as I tend to use the Scotties for average fishing and the down Easter for wire divers. Most other trolling rods go in the rigger holders. I've started using them for planer boards and they work well but so did my Scotties. If I was just an average bass, pike and pickerel fisherman id probably mount standard Scottie cradle style holders and be done with it. If you plan on trolling for salmon or Muskie then go for the salties or Berts!

Ottawa River was a sight to behold today!

Nice rig, I'm jealous!

Yep, that can be a good idea especially if your going to wrench on things a lot at home. But if your a 2-3 time a year user, mastercraft products will likely give a lifetime of use! I buy high end rods and reels because I use them a lot, air tools, not so much!

I have the same compressor. It will easily run an impact. I pull my snows off every year, no problems. It will even pop the rims off my f150, and the torque specs are ridiculous for that. Are the impact guns Campbell hausfield by chance? If so, take them to the dump and buy the Canadian tire set for $100 next time it's on sale. It's perfectly adequate for the home handyman who isn't beating on the tools every day.

I'm glad you got some help, very nice gesture from Freshtrax. Your impeller is probably on the way out. Our Nissan 9.8 sprays hard right from startup.

New Humminbird compatible with old transducer and power?
porkpie replied to Tjames09's topic in General Discussion
Should work ok. I am going to use my old 385 transducer with my helix 5 portable on my sportspal this summer. Might as well save the new one and use the old one till it dies. They look identical and have the same model number. The power cords are the same, I didn't change out the cord in my portable pack and used it all winter. -
What it's all about! Springtime salmon with the kid!

Yellow Goodness - Perch Report with Pics
porkpie replied to mike rousseau's topic in General Discussion
Nice bag! I'll be out with my son on Friday if the winds let me get to where I want. Trouble with Great Lakes perch is the wind never wants to cooperate when I have time off! -
Thanks, I'll take a look at the AGM's

Costco has a good size deep cycle/ starting battery. I'm going to pick one up this week, I just added a second graph and I don't trust the starting battery to run the whole show. might be worth a look to see if it will work with your outboard. I've only got a 50 so it'll be no problem.

Best fishing show out there at the moment!!
-
Buy the 31's. Walmart has everstarts for around $135 a piece. Kirkland doesn't sell 31's, at least not that I've ever seen.
-
You can also experience interference when wiring your electronics to your tm battery. I had that problem on my old boat. I just use a 7ah ice fishing battery at the front now for the fish finder.
-
I also run a 50 4 stroke on a 6 gallon tank. Just keep a 5 litre can in the boat for emergencies and you'll be good. I've run the Detroit River from one end to the other fishing all day and ended up back in Lasalle with fuel in the tank!

Lots of guys complain about using Kijiji, but I've had very good luck. In the last 3 years I've sold a used car, 2 small outboards and a boat and trailer, plus a couple of my old sonars etc, and a trolling motor. I have had to wade through some losers, but overall you get the most airtime from Kijiji, as almost everyone looks there! If your car will safety and e-test, it's my opinion you will sell it much easier, but that's up for debate! As for firm prices, you can list it as such but you will get low balls from guys anyway so it's been my experience that it's a waist of time. The only guys worth dealing with are the ones who show up with money in their pocket and negotiate then. The email ones I just ignore. Good luck!
