  1. If you have to fish through the ice its going to be a short trip... Mike
  2. WTG, congrats on the first brown and those nice lakers. Sounds like a great family trip, glad everyone had a good Christmas. Mike
  3. Nice pic, cisco. Would you recommend end of May for big pike & walleye in the area? I posted another thread about wanting to try a lodge in the Temagami area. Got some good suggestions, which I'll follow up on after the holidays. Besides the lodge & lake(s), the other decision we have to make is when to go. We usually go on our week-long trip in June, but can be flexible. Your recommendation would be appreciated... Thanks, Mike
  4. Smaller is better than none, I haven't caught a fish since October... Mike
  5. I haven't used this rigging before, what's the advantage of the 3-way swivel, vs. just using the slip bobber and feather jig? Mike
  6. Rick, was wondering why you were in a suit at the swill! Regret that I wasn't able to attend as planned, would have been great to meet you and the other OFNCers after all this time... Mike
  7. What I'd encourage is for people to educate themselves about this topic, not just watching the documentary but reading books and looking online. There's a lot of debate about global warming, but even if you don't believe that we are causing it, it still makes sense to try and save energy, burn less oil, and reduce our impact on the environment. Not quite a NF topic because what happens to our climate will affect our fishing! Mike
  8. Nice report, congrats on the first laker. First one of the season, or first one ever? Mike
  9. Thanks Lew. Best wishes for 2007 to all the OFNCers... Mike
  10. "I have integrity in self-mockery" Great set of reports... Mike
  11. Nice fish! Mike
  12. If you're interested in learning more about this stuff, I really recommend a book that I read earlier this year called The Weather Makers, by Tim Flannery. I've also heard good things about a book called Heat, which I just bought online. Mike
  13. There was a big get-together last night at the Firehall, one of the traditional OFC get-togethers (a.k.a. the Christmas swill). I haven't made it to one yet, thought I was going yesterday but have been feeling run down and didn't think a late night with beer & wings would do me any good... Mike
  14. Hmmm, time for a bigger boat? I don't have a GPS but would like to get one, it would be very handy in unfamiliar waters, and esp. to mark spots. Looking for landmarks and watching the sonar can work but not always... Mike
  15. Hit a milestone, it's been a blast so far! Mike
  16. Glad to see so many OFNCers turned out and had a good time... I gotta practice my WGSF pose for next season... Mike
  17. If you can believe it, I was in my early 30s, never fished as a kid and only started as an adult after a friend kept bugging me to join him for a couple of hours on a small lake... Mike
  18. Nice trout, congrats on breaking in the new float setup... Mike
  19. Looks like a good day of catching, you're lucky to be able to get out on the boat this late in the year. Though with the mild temps we've been having in southern Ontario, we've been getting some local boat reports too! Mike
  20. TJ, not worth your while to have a booth this year? Too bad, sounds like a trend over the past few years for these shows. I haven't been in a few years now... Mike
  21. Okay, I'm naive... Mike
  22. Great pictures, I really like the one of the hawk. Mike
  23. Can't you just use those sites and convert the prices from US to CAD? Or am I incredibly naive and there's a big difference in car prices between the States and Canada... Mike
  24. Don't forget to toast the new year if you're out... Mike
  25. xrap, Good question, I know that season openers start at midnight. I would guess that the season ends at 11:59:59 on the closing date, so one second before midnight and your season ends (and the new year begins). Mike
