  1. Geez, I get too busy with work etc. and don't sign on very often and I come back to see this? Who's been stirring it up? Now the ax-man (Spiel) cometh... Mike
  2. Awesome report! I'm not surprised you are getting so many PMs about it! Mike
  3. I have some, never had a problem like you describe. Mike
  4. Cliff, Nice to see a report, and extra kudos to your daughter for doing something for other kids who could use the help. Mike
  5. THat's the way it's supposed to be, right? Worth it all to see a smile like that. Mike
  6. Great report Cliff. What a heartbreaker about the muskie lost at the boat; but it makes for an even better fishing story... Mike
  7. Good question, I've wondered the same. But at least some plastics break down; a metal or wood lure never will! I don't use Gulp lures much but I believe they are supposed to completely dissolve in water. Mike
  8. Sounds like a nice little lake to spend some time. Can't think of anything that beats topwater bass action... Mike
  9. My in-laws own a pontoon boat and we've fished off it. Definitely a comfortable way to travel around the lake. Very stable platform too for someone with mobility problems or if there is a group. Haven't tried it but it would probably be good for a bunch of kids too. The downside for fishing is that you can't get as close to shore, rocks, etc. as you could in a tinny and you won't exactly be able to roar around the lake looking for spots. A pontoon boat wouldn't be my first choice but it's a solid option if you need a boat for multiple purposes. My two cents, Mike
  10. Wooooooow! Amazing fish, congratulations on the catch (and release) of a lifetime... Mike
  11. And it looks like spinning gear in the background of that teaser photo??? Mike
  12. Good luck, I haven't fished it myself but I'm pretty sure you'll find lots on Simcoe if you do a search. I do remember that one of the complaints is that there are fewer and fewer shore access spots on Simcoe because of resident complaints. Mike
  13. Though accidental, that's an awesome catch. I've only seen sturgeon in aquarium tanks, would be cool to see one live in the wild. Mike
  14. Wow, awesome fish, that must have been an exciting day out for your son. Mike
  15. That's a very nice offer and some helpful tips for newbie creek anglers. Kudos JohnF... Mike
  16. Congrats on some nice browns. Roy, I'm sure you'll get your brown one of these days, I've been lucky and caught a few. Though I don't fish for trout often, I think they are the prettiest fish. Sorry bass & musky guys. Mike
  17. I'd say most of the time I'm fishing with 1/8 or 1/4 oz jigs, unless I'm using a jig & pig and then it's 1/2 oz or even 3/4 oz. Mike
  18. Nice little lake close to TO. Fished it a couple times, had some good success for pike & bass. I don't remember any problem with noise and I don't remember noticing anything about the pollution except for really heavy weedgrowth and some algae near the plant. Mike
  19. You know, besides the reports and knowledgeable advice, I think one of my favourite things about OFC is hearing stories about members helping each other out. I'm really glad I've had a chance to meet some of you in the real world and fished with a few of you too. Mike
  20. Nice pike, sounds like a lot of fun for the girls... Mike
  21. Congrats on the PB, and thanks for telling a great story. Beautiful part of the world up there... Mike
  22. How about a charter or guided trip? If he has all (most) of the new gizmos, then it'll be hard to find something he doesn't already have. But I'll bet he will definitely enjoy being out on new water (or familiar water) with someone who really knows their stuff, works hard to put him on fish, and makes it an enjoyable trip no matter what. I've hired guides probably 10 times now, and have always enjoyed it, esp. when it was somewhere new where I wouldn't have any idea how to start (e.g., saltwater flats). Mike
