  1. those are some great meat pies, it's been a few years for me do you guys ever fish near the london street dam? I used to live on the river just upstream, some real hog carp cruising in there
  2. hard to pick...generally anything sight fishing fly casting to spring pike tarpon (yet to land sadly...it's like a 150lb steelhead on steroids, my favourite fish) the first sturgeon i caught was fun, after that it becomes a chore/workout lol
  3. I used to be an avid runner, high school through college...I was a business students but all my roommates were police foundations or fire fighting and trained together...my best 10km was 38 10 seconds and 5km was 18 something, when i was 21, not now, likely never again LOL I ran the vancouver sun last year in 46 mins comfortably without killing myself I still run 2-3 times a week, 10km or better, but my beer belly is pushing me close to 240lbs, i'm in shape but with extra padding...past few years my right foot has developed a case of plantar fascitis...doctor says this is linked to the extra weight, grade 2 tear on my MCL from football, need orthotics in my cycling shoes and wearing bad flip flops religiously one thing he recommended was orthaheel flip flops (aside from dropping lbs ha)...i used to wear birks but the orthaheels offer more support IMO and don't stink so bad during sweaty summer months http://www.orthaheelusa.com/men/sandals/base-toe-post-sandal.html that's what i wear, they have a different model on sale right now for $52 could you share which wilderness race your buddy ran? I'd like to try one in the next couple years
  4. anybody fish the thames around delaware? need to always stop for chester's chicken no chicken = no fish...has been proven about a dozen times over
  5. I'd recommend hearst air...very happy with my experiences with them, both fishing and level of service
  6. yep, I'd prefer navionics too I almost want to buy a cheaper humming bird just to use with the trolling motor, and lowrance for my main electronics
  7. don't want to hijack the thread too much...I'm in the process of upgrading everything this year, this is the response I received from minn kota Thank you for your email. Unfortunately LakeMaster does not currently have lake map chips for Canada. This is something they are currently working on and should be available soon. The i-Pilot Link will function without the chip, but you will need the map chip to be able to follow a contour. It is in the works. Thanks, Kelly
  8. @ porkpie - interested why you asked if it's a ford, sometype of known issue? my last ranger kept blowing 2 fuses for my trailer lights, a fuse under the hood and one in the panel by the glove box. took me forever to figure it out, without the fuse diagram i had to go through and inspect each fuse one by one until i found the burnt ones it was a 7.5 amp fuse that i had to replace every couple months, then I replaced it with a 10 amp fuse and never blew again
  9. good review, I've been tempted to order a pair for about the last 2 years but never ordered...seems like maybe I should I'd like to find a pair of "good quality" crocs, something quick and easy to kick on and off for summer camping/boating
  10. bite the bullet and pay to go out with a charter, pay attention and you will learn lots, it will help fast track the learning curve
  11. I'm not the most up to date on canon product lines (and far from a technically advanced photographer), I have a g12 and is my first canon camera, takes great pics and is perfect boat camera for me here's a link outlining the differences, to me the extra cost would be worth it for more mp's and iso sensitivity, HDR is a cool thing to learn, the flip screen is handy http://www.2cameraguys.com/Canon-EOS-Rebel-T5i-IS-vs-Canon-EOS-Rebel-T3.htm
  12. i'm about to redo my bunks shortly, I managed to score some strips of leftover uhmw teflon, typically used on river sleds...pt lumber and countersunk screws, quick easy and should last a long, long time puck board would probably be about the same, make loading shallow ramps easier too I would think and is easy to find/buy
  13. september is a dangerous month for bear attacks, desperate bears that need to feed are the most dangerous I carry a 300 short everywhere I go in my truck/boat/ice fishing/camping, etc, etc...but it's my "pretty gun" lol....I'm looking for a dedicated bush gun, beater gun...will either a lever action 45-70 or a high capacity 12 guage...they seem to be the more popular choices my hunt club has a couple of really good books on bear behaviour and attacks, research, etc...I just can't think of the 2 authors right now...I've slowly been reading/re-reading them, I'll try to remember to post the names once i remember are you working in the yukon? if you bring a gun, keep it in your truck, booze and guns are the fastest way to get kicked out of camps lol
  14. false... you are legally allowed to carry non-restricted firearms (rifles) for protection of wildlife in the woods, provided you are legally allowed to possess firearms....should be able to google it quick and easy, rcmp website, common question it is possible (but very hard) to receive an authorization to carry (ATC), is generally restricted to law enforcement, security guards, etc as well as trappers and some professionals who work in the woods...surveyors, geologists, etc sad story, hopefully the guy recovers quickly....but I do personally feel a lot of dog involved incidents are due to poor pet owners who let the dog run wild and aggravate resident moose and bears in the area..... respect for bears, not fear
  15. for steelhead fishing I use a calcutta TE and a cardiff, both work great for drifting and chucking lures
  16. they're huge out west...wholesale sports carries them, can order online and no cross border shipping
  17. hmm...I wonder if I email a taxidermist up in NWT if I'd score any polar bear or arctic fox?..ha that's a lot of material right there, I'm guessing we're going to see a follow up thread with a bunch of spun deer hair for bass opener, mice, frogs, dahlbergs and such?
  18. you're not missing anything ,that store is not worth a visit....poor selection and I saw many items that were incredibly over priced, I don't know about other cabela locations but the edmonton store doesn't have anything on BPS
  19. it's mostly the quality of the craftmanship since shimano took over and gary left...have heard complaints about the nrx's being poorly built...to each their own I guess, I've been happy with my loomis rods warranty is also rumoured to have gone downhill, but my experiences with shimano customer service have been nothing short of excellent...they dropped the no fault warranty (aka the abuse the crap out of warranty program) and replaced iwth with a one time wildcard
  20. do you only fish streamers for trout? or dry fly as well? you can get a that will do both good but not either one great i'd get a fast action 6 wt for trout streamers and bass, and then a mod or mod fast 5 for trout dry fly fishing...you could use the same reel even without a spare spool, just buy a fly line wallet (or make your own) and switch lines quick and easy by using a loop to loop connection between backing to fly line
  21. no particular comments on that exact rod, but I have a couple GL2's and they are great rods, not the most sensitive rod out there(at least compared to a glx, cumulus or other top line models) but fishes nicely...they are durable rods too, they get beat up a lot more than some other expensive rods I baby I have a rod labelled as a drop shot rod that I use for jerk baits, like the action for jerk baits, lots of back bone and a soft tip exactly like you mentioned
  22. as mentioned, the bvk is a great rod and value for the money how did you break your current 6 wt? and the last time i broke a st. croix it was walk in and walk out with a new rod from the shop i bought it from, no waiting around unless you really want two 6 wts, you could consider going up to a 7 or 8 wt...there is a T&T for sale in the classifieds right now echo are good rods, good warranties....guidelines are good rods....3-400 will get you into a lot of good rods, try to look at a few before you buy
  23. I forgot it was a pink year....you should have a great trip...a guide will pretty much guarantee catching fish but can be pricey...the vedder is easy access and easy for a tourist to find good water....squamish has some nice rivers if you want to drive an hour north of van
  24. PM me closer to the date August should have sockeye and chinook coming up the fraser...chance at summer run steelhead on the island too
  25. a cap or tonneau is mostly useful for detering thieves (and keeping snow from turning into a block of ice when it thaws/freezes lol) cap on or cap off, I've noticed very minimal impact to my fuel economy and that's with both a flat top and 6" rise nice truck, almost bought a 5.7 hemi 3 weeks ago but stayed wtih a 150 mostly cause i got a wicked deal on it, but i still think aobut the ram test drive, good ride
