  1. chilliwack, bc http://www.speartipknives.com/spalthorsechest.html another link: http://www.speartipknives.com/custommadeknives.html
  2. some cultures also worship cows and do not eat them, but do you see them protesting and calling the media to report every restaurant that serves beef? respect is a 2 way street, it seems that FN believe that their beliefs trump all others in Canada beliefs are just that, beliefs....it was once believed the world was flat... I just can't take FN complaining legitimately....the day they start self reporting band harvest to biologists, then I'll take them as genuinely concerned about our wildlife
  3. are the ranchers cooperative with hunters or MNR? there is a system that somewhat works in northern BC, a special management zone with reduced point restriction and open cow, to help the ranchers out with a goal to reduce the herd in agricutural areas...the 'somewhat working' is not all ranchers cooperate with granting access to hunters on their land it would be great to see the ON MNR adopt systems that work out west and tweak them to work a bit better, ranchers helping hunters harvest the problem elk...win for hunters and win for the ranchers yet to take one, but elk hunting is incredibly addictive, they are very vocal....calling in a bull and hearing him chuckle and bugle from 30 yds, truly one of my best outdoor experiences
  4. wicked, really nice to see them spreading....there is a controlled hunt already, but I bet that guy will survive for a few years, lack of wolves being key to their success I would imagine, odds for the lottery tag sound similar to 649 http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/OC/2ColumnSubPage/STDU_131067.html
  5. you never know, it wouldn't hurt to be specific where in SK if it was BC or northern AB I likely could have helped out...more of a private messager than poster but have had nothing but good dealings with buying things on here I'm assuming you found an online ad? ask the guy for a photocopy of his drivers licence and print the ad, might be enough for the local police to follow up on if things go south....or might jsut be a long shot either way
  6. what province? this forum has a few out of province members, might get lucky finding somebody in the area
  7. aggression, instinct and visibility....sometimes it just pays to show them something different
  8. people stil use crackberries? iphone all the way, intelligent and logical layout, easy to use (if you're not used to apple products the first 2 days might be frustrating), apps are just a bonus, the iphone sitll beats bb hands down before the apps IMO iphone personal and work cell is a blackberry for now, but are switching over to iphones....I can't stand the tiny keyboard, don't understand how guys can use those things? for my fingers, the touch screen is a lot faster and less typos
  9. here's a poorly hit bird, entry and exit hole, a little shot loss but overall not bad....would be very different a varmint round LOL
  10. I use a 22 and 17hmr on grouse quite often, with the new rimfires (wmr/hmr) you need to be careful of your backdrop, the 17 is chrono'ed at about 2300 fps and will pass through and keep going, something to consider.....strictly neck/head shots I've also seen many breast shot birds with a 22 fly or stumble away, hard to recover without a dog....I really like the cci skived tip ammo or hornady xtp I think it's called...the breast will be salvagable if you hit it, not unlike the ammo marketed as 'varmint'...don't use that stuff on grouse, with a bad shot you won't get much left other than training bird or fly tying supply when they spook, are they completely gone or will they rest in a nearby tree? if they take cover in a tree, shoot from the bottom up first, less likely to flush the rest that way
  11. go buy an extendable paint roller handle, have seen guys use them for pier fishing, they can get pricey for a sturdy one, used them for epoxy flooring
  12. krixxer, where do you find Anschutz in Canada? I couldn't find one when I was looking to buy that's a good looking website, never seen it before, thanks for linking it, afternoon productivity has haulted... here's a deal for the OP, if the gun wasn't cool enough on it's own, you got skull camo for the kids lol http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/details/14737/Savage-93R17-Bolt-Action-17-HMR-Skull-Camo-21-Barrel-Synthetic-Stock.aspx
  13. just because I bought a new rimfire a few months ago, and after I found out which ammo it shot best, I showed my buddy the difference between ammo in the same gun.....100 yds, 3 types of ammo, 2 shooters (me on the right) super accurate, love it for grouse and rabbits.....my dog gets jealous when I take birds on longer shots, he'll sit beside me while i shoot, but he voices his unhappiness...until he gets the command to go get em LOL grouse from last night, 130 yds
  14. I'm a big fan of savage rimfires (not sure which models are still made in lakefield though), the accutrigger I find helps new shooters with trigger control and is a decent trigger, easy to adjust
  15. I have at least a good 100 hundred good threads from various forums bookmarked, that's all i do to find them again I get what you're saying but some forums get way too nit picky on on that stuff...OFC has a good layout and if you're looking for one of those older epic threads, just pm moosebunk or solopaddler for the details again, since they're about 90% of the epic threads
  16. what lb mainline and leader? being a guy that fished ON tribs for 15 yrs and then moved to BC and now bounce back and forth, I found that the conventional ON thinking on light leaders isn't actually necessary for more bites (if you can mend good drifts it doesn't matter if you're using 4lb or 12 lb leaders IMO)....anything less than 6lb leaders are only for dry flies lol I'd suggest to try fishing a heaver leader, like 10 or 12 lb, until you get the hang of it with your baitcaster (or experienced pinner) you get consistent drag applied to the fish, with somebody new on the pin you're going to get pressure spikes from not applying drag as smoothly, that isn't good for light leaders even with a long soft rod and is it possible you just have bad/old line? I had a spool of 12 lb raven once and it snapped like nothing, cost me 4 winter steelies one day before I respooled back to trusty trilene
  17. was he bred for pet? or from a proven field line? get this book, the trainer i worked with recommended it, it was easy to follow Gun DogTraining Spaniels and Retrievers, Kenneth Roebuck http://www.amazon.com/Gun-Dog-Training-Spaniels-Retrievers-Kenneth/dp/0811711145 only worry about basic obedience and establishing your bond during the first 6-8 months, get him exposure to the woods and smells and sounds, etc but don't worry about gun training so much, just basic obedience and lots of love and praise, build the bond so he learns to trust you no matter what don't push him too hard, their brains are basically mush when they're puppies until about 1.5-2 yrs, keep the training sessions short during the first year and work on the important little things, like retrieving toys to hand, coming to you immediately, stop and out commands, hold command, trash break him, gun shyness, etc....basically go for a hike and let him have fun, while shooting a bird or rabbit along the way, build it up for him, don't make it a chore or forced if you get frustrated or angry stop immediately, they read that very easily and will send him wrong messages, he won't know what he's doing wrong......the only time to discipline is when you catch him in the act, scolding him after the fact does nothing but harm to your bond, he's not smart enough to connect the dots... I'd wait until he's closer to a year before you work on advanced training, and that's when an experienced handler can do wonders with you and your dog....I wouldn't pay for training in the first year, you won't see as much return on your investment so to say lol you need to be consistent, you can see weekly improvement with your dog but then if you take a break from training you'll see just how quickly bad habits can form.....always keep toys separate from training tools, decoys, etc....he'll learn the difference between play time and hunt time, never let him chew on a training bag, or bird, etc
  18. I bought a 2000 lund 17' with 90 johnson, the usual scratches and 1 small dent but above the water line, pretty decent shape, at auction for 7,250 for hull and o/b, no extras....trailer paint was rough looking but solid, no issues, new tires....i bought in march, initially I didn' want to bid more than 6 or 6.5 but things happen....lol if that boat has a 60, I'd definitely think you would find it under powered...and at this time of year I would start low on your offer
  19. I really like the Thill turbo masters, always have a few of those, use the foamies on the larger flows and I like the raven and drennans, keep a large plano box filled with floats and take a handful appropriate for the river I plan to fish for the day, I found myself crushing too many floats, so a dedicated plano box keeps them safe and organized and always in the truck during season making your own is very simple and MUCH less expensive than tying flies LOL a hook I really like for the big pink worms/larger sacks is the gammy wide gap finesse sz4, same hook I use for smallies too I use either cheap 20 lb mono or dacron for backing
  20. my understanding was those materials won't absorb colour dyes, so a matter of how quickly the colour coatings will fade, some better than others, is easy to recolour with a marker if it bothers you....I'd like to see them make a braid that is actually perfectly round, not just false advertising hype
  21. it's a great site...to be a lurker....LOL kind of true, but only if you're not thick skinned....forums can be especially rough on the newbies who haven't learned 'the way' yet most steelhead and musky threads, posting estimated weights of fish, etc...just sit back and enjoy the show.....everybody is a keyboard expert
  22. you can find clear heat shrink tubing at most electrical stores...I got some at the source
  23. crappy luck, hope you can recover it.....i'd be careful of needles if you're swimming around in that creek...maybe take a long handled net and try dredging the bottom
  24. great tip...wish I read this about 2 yrs ago..thanks
  25. haha apparently the dude's been fishing since he was 3, so I'm gonna guess that's maybe 10 yrs total????.....my bad for trying to help out a newbie....lol yo yo millerman, my bad for frontin homie...lmao
