  1. Good on you for getting out Cliff. Sure beats sitting inside.
  2. It was a beautiful day despite the cold winds. It was also a day where both my kids wanted to get out and beat a local stream that has a good sucker run. Armed with ultralites, carp corn (from Hammercarp) and synthetic roe and away we go. Only took 10 minutes to find the first pod. Now I do admit I'm a stubborn cuss and I shouldn't be working streams any more. I don't have adequate motor control in the legs, But we've been doing this for years. I hook into the first sucker and one moment I'm on the bank, next instant I'm half in the stream. Serves me right He was still worth it. The daughter did camera duty while the son and I caught a few more. It was fun just to be together without a care in the world, even if Dad is a putz. Still had a good laugh, and managed to keep the camera dry(I've drowned a few). Kept a couple of suckers for cat bait.
  3. There are some decent spots right close to home. Byng CA in Dunnville. Chippewa CA in Wellandport. Valens CA up the #6 Just for starters. Further away Bass Lake PP on hwy 12 west of Orillia. 6 Mile Lake PP on hwy 69 just north of Pt Severn. Balsam Lake PP west of Coboconk on hwy 48
  4. Taboo's is real nice and I can get a break there, if i was golfing any more.
  5. My wife will never learn. I've had 5 calls for Cranberry Resort so far.
  6. It's a regular business day
  7. Just love Simcoe perchin. Gotta convince the wife we should move to Orillia or Barrie
  8. Bring back Red Fisher!
  9. 13,185 now. Elmer Fudd's shotgun is not the problem, but that is what the government wanted us to believe. The weapons of choice for the criminal are hand guns and automatic weapons. They are illegal already and no amount of bureaucratic nonsense will eliminate them. The government needs to put this money into better border enforcement and inspections. That is how we reduce the gun problem.
  10. Bismuth/ tin is not easy to find at a scrap yard. Usually found at a specialty metals supplier. More expensive than lead. I use lead for all my moldings. Last year the price of lead was up to $1 a lb. It has since come down.
  11. Somebody had a good evening
  12. If the dogs figure out I'm off fishing and leave them behind. Look out! Waste cans in the house get dumped out and all the sheets pulled off the bed.. Gonna have to start loading the gear the night before. The cute and expensive stunt? I empty my pockets every night onto the night table. The next morning I go to fill my pockets and my car keys are gone. Looked all through the house, the yard, inside the 2 vehicles and nothing. So off to the dealership to get a set of new key chips for the ignition lock (ouch). 2 weeks later the wife decides its time to clean out the puppy bed and wash their blankets. Guess what was buried under the blankets. A Jack Russel is one very intelligent and mischevious dog.
  13. BIll has always been great. I have a couple of the oldest albums with such gems as the 'story of Fat Albert', or 'Buck Buck championship of the world'. His best: Noah http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0KHt8xrQkk
  14. I like Lunkerville. Every day people enjoying the sport. No big flash and pizazz. It's interesting.
  15. Lew, you are not out of line. Like others I have had many scares, and still do, with my daughter. Every terminally ill child I meet turns me inside out, emotionally For those who have lost their little one's. I know that feeling where your heart is sitting at the back of your throat and ready to burst. We try to deal with it one day at a time here and be thankful for the good days. There are many sleepless nights and days where I am scared s---less. I have one fully grown son who is healthy. He may think we take him for granted some times because so much attention is focused on his sister. We are just so thankful he is healthy. Sorry for the self-indulgence. Been another rough week with the daughter.
  16. It just might be that licence fees have not kept up with the cost of running the fisheries dept. It is a regular habit of governments to run programs without increasing the revenues. The result is a deficit that either has to be paid off or the service has to be cut. Ontario chose to reduce service.
  17. Sounds like a good day on the water.
  18. The shots are good. They show nature at her less than pristine best in early spring. From clouded waters to barren landscape, its a good representation. You could get away with turning this into a photo essay in sepia.
  19. A visitor from NY state pays $66 for the priviledge of fishing Ontario. Only fair to see the same mark up. Also, take a moment to consider how much more aggressive the NY fisheries dept. is with resource management and stocking. IT's money well spent. Ontario residents benefit directly from those efforts whether they buy the NY tag or not Skip the emotions and look at the simple facts.
  20. This sounds good. I might be able to get out that way.
  21. Was a site supervisor for a couple of builders. There are pros and cons to all scenarios'. Buying a builder's home. Pick a model and particular upgrades and let them schedule and build. Pay your down and then pony up the mortgage on closing day. You have no control over the contractors or materials being used. You do not have to worry about scheduling, inspects, payment schedules, being on hand every day, cleanup, etc... You as the builder have total control, and total responsibility, for the project. There is a lot more work to it than many realize in selecting contractors, trades, materials, suppliers. You have to get the permits and approvals and schedule the inspections. You then have to set the appropriate construction timetable. Essentially, you have to be onsite every day you have people working, have deliveries, and to properly clean up behind each trade ( They aren't that meticulous. You have to make sure each house is completely swept out after each major work cycle, or the dirt and dust remains trapped in the house.) You micromanage. The compromise is to hire a general contractor to oversee the details and the trades while you oversee him and the work. You can't oversee the project on a daily basis and still hold down a job. The GC will also have a better handle on how to get the best out of the tradesmen. He does the micromanaging It still requires trust, and relinquishing a lot of control.
  22. The Mrs and I have been known to spend $1500 or more at the Sportsmen show in past years.
  23. What a cute little bundle of joy you have there. My best wishes for the three of you as you grow together
  24. We switched up to cable service for phone and internet. Total savings on services was $80 a month. No more long distance bills, servicing fees, lousy service or nonsense from India. Too bad my wife insisted on locking into a 3 year contract with Bell mobility. Another 18 months and that will be gone too.
