  1. Wow, could have been a bad batch.I have been using this line in 6 and 8 lb test for probably 4 yrs on several spinning outfits.Have caught many good size fish and it's been the best for low memory when it's cold for me.Used to be trilene xl for years but once it got cold I couldn't stand the loops. 2. The funny or sad part to me depending on how you look it is not too many years ago I read a story on muskies in cooch dying off of old age.The story went on about the lack of people actively fishing for them.I have to admit before I got the bug we fished really only for bass/walleye and pike.I have seen and been over top of muskies easily pushing the 30 lb plus mark in my youth in the shallow portions of the narrows during the spring around spawning time and couldn't believe we could glide a canoe right up on one and not spook it.I have seen a couple of mounts of over 40 lb fish from cooch that are from the 60's back when they were obviously more plentiful. Anyway no sooner had I decided I was going to try for them on cooch when the following year it is cut off to help the fishery in Simcoe recover.Personally even though they are connected and bass are known to travel from one lake to the other I think each lake has its' own population and they don't share the same water.I don't think muskies are viewed with the same reverence or ever will be in this watershed as they are in the Kawarthas or other lakes with a reputation for numbers or size.Simcoe is known for its' perch, bass, lakers and whities and really doesn't need any more help unless they want to allow us 2 herring too.In that case I'd be a real happy fisherman. 3. Just throwing one out there but if it has locktight red on it you will have to heat it with a torch and spin it off.Probably ruin any bushings though. Kerry
  4. My old 72 evinrude 50hp gets super,As does my sled which is rated for 87 octane. Both run way better on super than on regular and fuel mileage is better just like my vehicles.Premium fuel with a higher octane rating is a more stable fuel and will give a better complete burn.As long as it's ethanol free I'm in.Most importantly especially with ethanol your mileage suffers as it takes more fuel to do less.Even the old regular gas without ethanol gave better mileage/performance. 5. Make sure the lights are working so someone doesn't rearend ya and it doesn't hurt to carry spares especially for a boat trailer. Kerry
  6. Yep both Balsam and Mitchell have their own set slot size which has been unchanged for the last few years even with the current new FMZ 17 rules.Unfortunately the slot is not followed very well as i have noted many cleaned carcasses thrown in the garbage at the park definately in the slot. The wardens are MNR officers and I have yet to see one inquire even out of curiosity about catches at the launch.Aside from that the slot size has been very helpful with walleyes in Balsam in general. 7. If you were in a really weedy spot you may have chewed up enough stuff to clog the water intake port which usually is screened to keep larger pieces from being drawn up into the impeller.Take a pressure washer to the screen and make sure it is cleared.Normally the 'Hot Horn' is an indication of an overheating situation. Some motors are designed to cut to idle speed when this happens and is a good indicator of that.If it is an oil injected motor I think some of them will shut down when this happens. In any event take the time to check the screens and impeller and your oil pump. You can always add oil to your gas and keep an eye on the reservoir level while using it to see if you are pumping oil.The most it will cost you is a couple of fouled plugs for piece of mind. 8. You don't have to be charging for it to create gas.Simply being in an enclosed space with this heat is enough or running a graph will cause it to work or heat up.In any case probably baking soda and water will neutralize the acid and help with the cleanup as well. Kerry
  9. Unfortuunately this seems to be the go to hot thing to do this year for some reason glen.Sure hope the fad dies quickly. Kerry
  10. I paid 79 bucks for one with no exchange last year group 24 700 cranking amps.If you look on kijiji in the rv parts section a guy in toronto is selling a pile of them for 50 bucks apiece he was going to use for a solar project.might be worth a look or call.
  11. The Scotty pinch type are adjustable and easy to use.I would stick to mono with a flourocarbon leader of 5-8 ft.If you use a cheater or slider a larger swivel on the flouro will kind of help keep the lines from getting too tangled up when bringing lines up.Braided line doesn't work all that great with releases especially if you like to crank them down. 12. you should just run a new ground somewhere to the body of your vehicle where the wiring harness is coming out rather than relying on a factory ground wire.Keeping it closer to the trailer should help with ground issues. Kerry
  13. I was going to say pretty much any lake during the week would be ok.It's the weekends that most lakes are real busy but definately smaller waters are safer all round. Kerry
  14. Here's another helpful tip which helped us in our quest to quit.Start cleaning, particularly the areas you frequent the most.Getting the smoke smell out of your living area goes a long way to alleviating the urges as your system changes.Of course once everything has a nice fresh scent it makes it a little tougher to go back. It's been 11 years+ for us. 15. The sp leads me to believe it's a suspending Rogue Minnow. Kerry
  16. Bass lake has a good population of large and smallmouth bass.Largemouth like the weedbeds and wood throughout the lake.Smallies like the open areas with mixed rock and light weed growth and are more apt to be in water 3-8 ft.It has big sunfish and there are crappie and perch.bass lake is a bowl type lake.It has a deep hole about 34ft which i believe is a spring. The main center portion of the lake is 20ft but the best fishing is probably in the 8-12 ft depth during the day as largemouths love hanging around the cabbage beds crossing the lake between the 13th and 14th lines.Late evening and in the dark fishing lily pads at the south end(woods)can be lots of fun for big largemouth.Further out in the flats from there smallies will roam in the 4-5 ft depth during the day. Our #1 bait for bass lake has got to be the rattlin rap or cordell spot black/gold.Easy fishing just chuck and wind. It is the perfect lake if you have kids cause there are sunfish practically everywhere and they like to bite. I have friends that go there every bass opener and they always have a fish fry for the weekend with a good mix of all species. The park is great, most sites are good.Always a good idea to take a cruise thru if you aren't booking a site so you can pick what you like. The sites right by the water do not have power and there only 4 sites I think and a couple get pretty muddy if its wet.The park has a store but just ice cream treats, chocolates and such.It only has canoe and paddleboat rentals now too.Hope this helps. 18. And another plus is with Scotty's you are only using the power to bring the hardware up as you control the freespool to go down.Even less use of your battery. Kerry
  19. I'd try bypassing the kill switch and see if it starts then go from there. Kerry
  20. The one at Mitchell is a pay to use site like canal lake.Last time I was there it was 6 bucks. Kerry
  21. No need to worry about being graphic. Those words could easily help someone else to make the choice Paul.Great milestone! Kerry
  22. I worked on that lake last year.Yes it is private and all the land is owned by the association. The only access is via a gated road residents only. While chatting with the homeowner he actually brought up the subject of the MNR doing a survey with the association a few years back to determine why walleye stocks were dropping. We never really finished the conversation so I didn't get the outcome. One thing i did kind of gather was most residents are there to cottage and it is a very quiet lake which is why it's so much to buy in.I will say this, there are lots of lakes all around that have open access with all the same species and rather than get in to a a big Kaffufal over this one go out and enjoy what the others have to offer.Dalrymple,Youngs,Head,Mitchell and Balsam Lakes are all close and the walleye fishing is good in all. 23. I was going to chime in and say the Helicopter Lure from Roland Martin.Funny thing is my buddy and I caught some huge slop bass in bass lake that year with them but then they kinda fell by the wayside.Definately smelled like plastisol coming out of the package, that was probably why we stopped using them. Kerry
  24. Sorry guys, I was hopin to get back today in time to take a pic of both sides but it didn't happen.Had to make it to opening ceremonies for 7.Not surprised that the wind blew in some ice as it was clippin along good at times today. We might get lucky sunday if the system moves up a bit it may end up being a sunny day.For me I don't bother with a boat but just fish the canals on each lake.Couchiching canal has the distinction of giving up 5 or 6 tagged perch over the years so there is always a hope and besides i decided to throw my hat into the derby and sponsor a fish this year so i'm hopin one of you guys catches it if not myself of course  Kerry
  25. Keep your fingers crossed guys if that rain system comes in sat from the west south west it might just push the ice towards beaverton and away from the narrows.Still 35 hours away!
