  1. Watched an episode of Alaska State Trooper do exactly the same thing.Follow a moose till it jumped off the trail. Kerry
  2. I think it started before that when our buddy BOB who was painted with an orange brush at the time decided to take our license dollars and put them in to 'general revenue', never to be used for the fisheries again.....Funny he paints himself with a red brush now. Kerry
  3. Hey Aaron, always enjoyed your old show.Your enthusiasm will certainly bring Canadian Sportfishing to a new level.Congrats! Kerry
  4. Good topic Simon! I quit at 7:20am January 11,2000. My last cigarette sat in the ashtray smoldering away after lighting it up.Took a drag of burning filter and never looked back. Kerry
  5. I use my 12 volt snowmobile battery. Will last a lot longer than the ice fishing battery and I get to keep it well charged in the offseason. Kerry
  6. Do the easy stuff first.Ethanol in gas will cause a lot of little problems with the fuel system especially if it has been sitting over the winter.I would check the fuel filter first or replace if it has been a while, then check the fuel line for clogs at the fittings. If the line is older it could be degrading. Is there a primer bulb on the line?If it is getting hard it might not allow a full prime or full flow after. Drain the carb bowls and purge the rest of the lines on the motor of what gas is in there and use fresh premium for a tank of gas. Kerry
  7. I usually PVR Musky Hunter, The Next Bite and Simply Fishing,my favourites to watch-fish with teeth. However I really like the Australian Fishing Championships and cant wait for the repeats to be over.I like the format and the species are different but also much the same ways to target.Go team Tackle Junkie! Kerry
  8. Costco does have deep cycle batteries.I bought mine for my boat and trailer last year.Paid I think 78 bucks each and didn't have to pay a core charge.Took my old batteries to the metal recyclers and got 5 bucks each. Kerry
  9. Reminds me of my old TCR101 I had rigged up years ago.Worked great in the hut but once the cold got to it it just wouldn't work worth a darn.I'd say either try some hand warmers around it inside a cooler or its time to upgrade to something more suited to ice fishing. I'm partial to my x67.Can't wear the battery down in a day and it has both lcd and flasher mode.Love them both.I like the flasher for instant display and the lcd for memory which is great when a whitie or laker comes chasing up on your bait. Kerry
  10. Big smallies are awesome for their fight but a big bucket coming up mouth first can put the biggest smile on your face in a hurry can't it? Beauty fish and it sure is good to see a kid following in his dad's footsteps! Kerry
  11. Balsam is a great fishery with a lot of smallies, eyes, musky, panfish and of course pike now.It is also your typical Kawartha lake with lots of weed beds, rock and fallen wood.Walleyes love those weeds and when it is hot like it has been you gotta get your lure down and in there.Jigging holes and edges of weedbeds during the day can be productive. In the evening fishing rock shoals coming out of deep water is a good pattern.I like to see a mix of weed and rocky breaks. The lake has many stretches of water with this, all can produce at any time.Patience is always key. Some days you will be floored with what you can catch on a crappy jig and other days you gotta wonder what that perch was thinking going after a 10 inch believer. That's fishing!Have fun. Kerry
  12. CTC on Mapleview in Barrie had lots today. Kerry
  13. Yep! I still got a bunch of those gold/black power shads. Great for rock smallies on a black 3/16 oz jig head with the larger hook. Kerry
  14. LOL! Never know when someone is gonna chime in.Just depends on the day you're browsing. Kerry
  15. You might find it a problem at this time of year on any dock. You can fish off the 'fishing dock' and both the town dock where the Island Princess sits and the government dock which sits in the park itself. The boardwalk and the new docks installed for boaters are off limits to people just walking out to fish unfortunately. The boaters' season runs May 24 to Thanksgiving. Before or after that any dock area is accessible. You can also shore fish anywhere along Veterans Park in front of the Legion and even behind the Aquatheatre in cooch park.Hope this helps. Kerry
  16. Well one question you answered for me is I got at least 999 to go before I need to change mine( hopefully musky as that is all I really use it for).I had the older frabill with the knotted net which is still a much better overall net than my newer frabill with the rubberized net which has less depth but a flatter bottom. It is easier to get the hooks free but more of a chance of a larger fish getting out while thrashing.I've had a 26 lb king in the older net and no bends in the handle yet. 17. We stayed at Fairbanks several years ago.It is a nice rustic park that if memory serves has a few waterfront sites which are likely always taken. We had went in for an overnite tenting. It has smallies and lake trout and is a sudbury area pothole lake created by meteors. Not really sure how good the fishing is there but I did catch a small smallie off the point of the day use area. The park is a good 20k off the highway. The store on the way in had very little supplies at the time, I would want to be well stocked before going all the way in just in case. Kerry
  18. Hey Brian, Here's my take.I am probably a lurker more often than not on most boards I am registered on and mostly because I have my computer set to clear everything as soon as I am done a session. Therefore I have to sign in on each and every board, fishing or not if I want to contribute. For the most part I only post when I feel I have a reason to.SO having said that I usually lurk at least once a day and probably view about 30 percent of the daily posts.I might post once a week so my ratio is really 'lurker sided'.For me the reading is more of a daily wind-down and unless something pekes my interest I'll post.So here you go! Kerry
  19. How about a small thin washer laid in the bottom. If it's thin enough you get the lock to catch but maybe enough thickness to stop the taper from jamming. Kerry
  20. After realizing that I got better mileage with shell midgrade over crappy tire premium last year I only use shell mid grade and premium fuel.I won't waste my time filling up at a station you can smell the ethanol ie sunoco, petrocan, ultramar.Yes I know shell has it too but not nearly as bad as the others and the premium is ethanol free. Kerry
  21. McCrae is a pretty good park. Some of the upper sites have water access by pathway from each site.If you have a tinny that is a good option. There is a small dock area and pullup beach on the Mcphee bay side of the park. This is a much better spot to leave your boat if you plan on leaving it in.It's more protected. The boat launch is steep and the water is shallow and if there is any significant wind from the south it will be tough to get it out.Gotta watch the prop.Don't leave a boat tied up there,it will get slammed around.Strawberry Island is just across from the point.Bear in mind that there is a shoal running from the point to the island and as such you gotta keep your eyes open. There are bass and pike-lots of weeds around that shoal and perch are around the island and in Mcphee bay. There is a nice walking path along the east side that crosses up to the point and down to the launch/beach area. The boardwalk on the west side of the park is in dire need of repairs as of last year. The park does have a good beach area and gets lots of day users. Sibbald is another great Simcoe park and has launching for I think about 6 boats at a time.Bass Pike Perch are all around that area.Huge beach and very busy.It is about another 30 mins from mcCrae pretty much the same as balsam just the opposite direction on 48. Balsam has it all and a perfect launch and dock area hands down.It also has a good beach area.We live in Orillia and if we can get the extra day off it's Balsam period.Bass, musky, lots of panfish and now even pike are being caught. Kerry
  22. No Centennial actually goes between the two.I think paradise rd is a little closer to kirkfield.Centennial actually cuts Canal in half if you are looking at a map.The bridge that it runs over the lake is called the 'hole in the wall'. Kerry
  23. There is one on Centennial Dr or Road between Hwy 48 and Simcoe rd 46.Not sure what the ice conditions are in the area though. Kerry
  24. Here is a link to the Esso oil page detailing the differences of two stroke oils and uses. This is what I researched before. http://www.imperialoil.ca/Canada-English/Files/Products_Lubes/IOCAENPVLESEasymix_2_cycle.pdf In any case 1 liter of oil is going to mix 50 liters of gas at 50:1. Thats way more than you need for an auger unless you have something else to use it on as well such as I do. For those that use Esso easymix or the Snowmobile(same stuff basically) or the Outboard (TCW3 formula)oils I have found the best prices at National Grocers( cheapest) or Real Canadian Warehouse. They are anywhere from 4.95 to 5.95 a liter, pretty much 2 bucks cheaper than the gas station. Kerry
  25. I bought mine last year at Costco about this time as a matter of fact.I use shell premium mixed with esso easymix semisynthetic oil up to 100to 1.This oil is made for air cooled engines which have a different classification than water or liquid cooled two strokes.I actually did a MSDS search on the oil property a couple years ago. This same oil is what I have used in my sled since I bought it.It is also fan cooled.I used mine every weekend cutting on average 10-12 holes or thereabouts.I didn't go through 4 liters. The cost saving is literally zip and Shell premium does not have ethanol.I filled my tank at the end of the season put some marine stabil in and forgot about it.Two weeks ago I fired it up on the second pull and let it run for about ten mins.Ready to go!
