  1. Looks like you got out fished again TJ. Great report!
  2. Awesome report. Sounds like Headhunter is hooked! Where you guys going in 2016?
  3. The lodge looks ok but with no outdoor hot tub or masseuse on site, I think I'll pass. Any word on the early season pike fishing on Esnagi? The outposts in the north end look intriguing.
  4. My sonar died so I'm sort of in the same boat Bri. After much thought, I'm going to get a Helix 5 SI. Sounds like great technology for the price.I'm going to use the stuff from my old HB portable to make the Helix portable.
  5. Without much ground clearance and crappy tires, the tractor would get hung up a lot. We did bushwack it back to Skink Lake. You guys leaving soon? I hope you didn't have to cancel. Cabin was great. 4 bedrooms and a bunkie we didn't use. 2 ice cold fridges. A CB radio to chat with Rodney at Gosenda Lodge. No BBQ sucked for steaks and burgers though, and the mice and squirrels are running around inside. Big mound of bear poo was left while we were out fishing, but never saw the bear.
  6. Nose to the grindstone Bunk, get the report up. Those fat bottomed girls make the rocking world go round.
  7. I admit, you were right. I did have a 40 plus nip close to the boat. I really wanted that fish for you
  8. There's an old outpost built in the 40's in the Chapleau region. There's very little online information about the place. The outfitter doesn't advertise and won't even answer his phone. Adam posted a while back here on OFC, "Does anybody know anything about the "Chutes"? He included a picture of a cabin nestled in spruce trees, perched on a rock, over looking a pretty rapids and falls. I had found the same information Adam had come across. I had actually chatted with Richard (the owner of the Chutes) a few years back. He only answered his phone because he thought he knew who the caller was, a friend calling him back. It took dozens of polite voice mail messages I left for Richard, but this previous winter, my party booked the Chutes. I sent a cheque for a deposit to a guy who doesn't answer his phone or return messages, and hoped for the best. Well, we actually went. This was kind of funny. Mike Borger's forum doesn't get tonnes of activity. There's great discussions and reports on there though. In the late winter, a guy's first post is "Does anybody know anything about the "Chutes"? This set off a long chain of replies from guys who wanted to know more and from guys who had been there at some point. There was also talk about Richard's phobia of the telephone. I love the historic, old camps and this was like an exclusive club I was going to become a member of. Getting to the Chutes is a long process. We drove to Foleyet. Air Ivanhoe flies Richard's clients into a camp called the Pines , then it's a 25 km boat ride to the Chutes. The Pines 25 km takes a long time when the boats are loaded with gear/ food/ beer, but it was a beautiful evening and we all enjoyed the ride. It is a truly unique spot for a camp. Below the Chutes, is likely the most prolific walleye spot on the river. You can fish above or below the Chutes. We had a lawn tractor/ trailer to haul gear, outboards and gas cans around. The tractor was also used for recreational trail riding. The lower river was surprisingly deep with an average of 15 and holes to 35 Above, Frog Lake was better for pike. Depths over 120". Big head, no body. Teagan won the big pike award at only 10 lbs with this fish he didn't want to hold. It's a great camp for family trip. We lit fires on the beach. We nailed some beauty pickerels right below the Chutes. Selfie Casting Quinkies after dark from the shore below the Chutes was a blast. With our headlights, we could see the glowing eyes below the Chutes. We all said the Chutes was a great pick. Another trip come and gone. The fishing was a little better than I expected. It was close to the lowest total of 340 fish we've experienced on our trips. Thanks to Ryan Couts. He gave me some small scale, detailed maps from his almost 30 years of Chutes fishing. We hear ya, the Chutes rocks!
  9. Why, did you run out of gas again today and are worried about getting a bill in the mail? I got flown out by helicopter after loosing a canoe in rapids on a canoe trip. The OPP asked a lot of questions about our whitewater experience, were we drinking/ stoned etc. I think they use their discretion. I was worried about getting a big bill in the mail, but never did. When guys need a heli rescue on sketchy ice on Simcoe, they get charged.
  10. Try a big treble hook Bri and troll fast
  11. We use boats with the plane and on our ATVs. We don't know who owns them. We just leave them the way we found them. So far we haven't had any issues. Funny story, I did a post from a back lake and a member on here said I was using his boat, Hahaha, He was fine with it, good guy
  12. The guy at Sail Burlington seemed to know his crap, tournament guy. I got the impression the technology is decent but not revolutionary and not necessary. The SI image stuff was hard for me to interpret and would likely take some getting used to. Yeah or neah for the $ Billy?
  13. If Cam had big jugs, I think I would propose. How cool is this- "Chris, I've got the plane and a day of free time. Let's go for a fish. What lakes do you think we should check out?" Right on! Out comes my map, then some discussion, then some packing/ organizing, then some altitude. We have to "borrow" boats. I've been exploring for years and kept my ears open too so we make a choice and away we go. No dock required. It would take me way too long to portage into here. With the float plane, 15 minutes can cover so much ground. There was muskie and smallies in the lake. Some guys may guess the area we were in, Hahaha. I casted mostly for skis while Cam Jansen tried to nail the bass. The only ski we saw, tried to take my Pop R while I was surface fishing for bass. It came out of the water, then entered nose first, and hardly made a splash, a perfect 10. Safe and sound near Coby. There's no fly-in pickerel lakes near Minden, so these would have to do, and they did fine in the frier. I'd give the lake a B+ If I win the Lotto, I'm getting my licence and a float plane.
  14. My sonar finally died. I've started to shop for a new unit. You people that have down imaging and side scanning already, how useful are these technologies? Any input appreciated. I will likely stick with Humminbird.
  15. Great father/ sons adventure! It's not just the fishing, but the other aspects of the trip that make it special. Sweet camp and Jenn's help are a bonus. Give me a call if you want to chat, I'm worried you're going to become a Chaga Head and sit around on the couch all day, running on Chaga. Bring some to Mojikit though
  16. Great report guys, looks like a blast. I've found the lakers tough/ weird this summer, so far. There's some giants in Haliburton Lake for sure, getting them to hit is the tricky part.
  17. Hopefully we do a couple more "Chris Lakes" before summer's over, then a few more in the fall. A fun day Bud. Be careful, Muskie fever can run hot and be hard to cure.
  18. I'm a G fan, I hope for the best
  19. Dozer, anytime. I talked with MSP via PM and it's the same loon, small world here on OFC sometimes, so if anybody wants to hand feed a loon, PM either of us Old Ironmaker you did it right. Me and my wife are stuck in Oakville because of our jobs and don't have that option.. Mike, right on Dude, 420 Steelheadphycho, I thought there would be some other stand up riders on here, Ang said the 1100 pretty well drops right in. The new hull seems to be way easier to ride than the old ones. This was kind of cool. I remember seeing these things in the Autotrader years ago. I always thought these things are crap, what a piece of garbage. That's a picture of Ang's Kawi Jet Mate. The thing is a RIOT, we were giggling like school girls getting soaked. Julian, I hope things are going well. Would love to hear about the progress. There always seems to be some snags with a build though.
  20. It's extra exciting when you're in a derby eh? Looks like a great way to spend the day Chris.
  21. That's good that Monique kicked butt, happy wife = happy life, and more fishing trips
  22. I think we need a new vehicle. My wife drives and I have to ride in the back jumpseat. Downrigging for lakers was tough. The bass were slow too. I've never seen or heard of this before. The loon was trying to steal our fish as we brought them in. Jet ski day. My buddy Ang dropped an 1100 triple into his stand-up. It felt like The Hand of God pushing you from zero to almost 60 mph. Ang, if you're reading this, your butt crack hanging out of your bathing suit all day did make me, and likely the other guys too, feel uncomfortable. Daniel has a heavily modded Super Jet with a carbon fiber hull. The critters are part of the experience. If she wants to nest over my jam jar, no problem, we'll stay away as much as we can. This guy knocked over my potted tomato plant. That's just the way it goes. If people get ticked off with stuff like this stuff, they should just live and stay in the city.
  23. That's a pretty unique place for sure. Sounds like a great adventure. Kasba should acquire that unused cabin, what an idyllic spot.
  24. Great picture Ryan. Yeah Mike, the cottage (no internet) for a ten week sabbatical. There's 2 epic, up coming fish trips included in there. Nose to the grindstone, get that report up.
