  1. yep, he's got that river down to a science
  2. For a first trip, I would stay on the Canadian side so you don't have to bother to get a NY licence, PITA. I would head straight to the bar. If you want to keep it simple, 3/4 oz jig head with 4" white twister tail. Big lakers (check the seasons) galore and the odd brown and bow. Pipe line drift is good too. Check the conditions before you make the trip. I remember one winter, there was only 2 fishable days all winter. Like Pierre mentioned, even if the consumption guide says it's ok, I wouldn't eat anything from there. JMO.
  3. 3rd man in Ricky, that's 5 and a game misconduct
  4. Whoa, everything ok there? Please enlighten us with your solution.
  5. You're probably hurtin' in the daylight dept. up there too. That things looks mint after 8 years of service. How many kms?
  6. I wouldn't try that. I have a few chargers specifically made for those batteries, at the cottage. I can give you one if you can wait a week.
  7. I found it weird. I would have guessed most of the guides at a place like that would have been younger guys, with the tie that binds being an absolute obsession for the outdoors. Smoking a cigarette, with your chest puffed out, strutting around, being a bully to try to hide insecurities, is high school stuff. Some guys never grow up. Ego is a hell of a drug too. The fish story was great, but the social stuff made it an even greater read.
  8. I was thinking the same thing. He could be referring to when the lake ices over, the weeds die and rot, consuming oxygen. A lake that shallow and weedy is vulnerable to winter kill.
  9. Tyler asks his dad, “is Bunk gonna guide us all week?” Before Keith can answer Ty finishes, “cause I want him to.” It was an unforgettable and surreal day for me thanks to the both of them, Sounds like a crazy experience. Way more interesting than just going to Plummer's as a guest. My blood pressure was going up a bit reading about the snide remarks, jabs and butt holes. It rubbed me the wrong way, guys talking to Bunk like that.
  10. I think most guys (me too) use the term to mean spawning success. I think it really means the number of fish achieving a certain life stage (like a certain length, or sexually maturity) Closing it (no fishing at all) would suck if you have a cottage or business on the lake. I don't know what strain they initially stocked in there but I don't think stocking BOQ fish will solve this. I like the idea of a rotating Kawartha lake walleye ice fishing season. It would take some of the pressure off the Haliburton lakers too.
  11. 18 degrees here yesterday, looking pretty wintery up there Simon.
  12. I was thinking dropping down a big sucker minnow.
  13. Shimano's are great, free Shimano's are even better!
  14. Just like my 3 outboards, my acoustic guitar is also a Yamaha. It's about 12 years old, paid about $800 originally, brand new. I really like it but I don't know enough on the topic to give you any advice.
  15. A couple of ten plus tanks there Mike, very cool! Looks like good weather for you guys too. Sounds like Greg is the guy to go to.
  16. Funny, I was thinking tonight, Bunk hasn't been around lately, he's likely doing some crazy crap Gonna skim it tonight, then give it the full read when I can.
  17. If she's a Starbuck's, Whole Foods kinda chic like mine, I would guess she needs/ wants one of these
  18. I know you're gonna do what you're gonna do, I'm the same. I would still say test run it yourself first. There's a fair chance it's fine. A "good overhaul" might actually be a guy putting the muffs on it, running it, then saying it's good to go and passing you a bill for a few hundred dollars.
  19. for me, iRobot gift = I in the dog house
  20. Sometimes the bow spots are a bit of a fashion show, my rod's bigger than your rod stuff. I think it would be fun to show up with a Mitchel 300, also try some minnows and carry them in a 5 gal white pail, a king can of Lucky Lager in the other hand, sounds fun to me
  21. for sure! Wish I had a gopro filming. We were giggling like giddy school girls as we bounced into boats. That day is still in my top 50 memorable days of fishing.
  22. Funny story, somewhat relevant. It was good weather on a winter weekend and there were lots of boats drifting the Niagara Bar. In my infinite wisdom, I threw the anchor out and we held on the break coming up the bar. We were catching fish, but with everyone else drifting in that super fast current, paying attention to their rods, and us stationary, it was like bumper cars out there. We had some laughs that day.
  23. It's old, but those were good engines. I would try running it with fresh, mixed gas before taking it in for a tune up. Maybe it's fine. I wouldn't spend the money for tilt and trim for that motor either. Nick's idea is what I would do. The picture isn't great but that prop looks fine too.
  24. I don't really know what you're saying, but I'm guessing it's derogatory. I worked at a marina when I was 14 and OMC stuff was good but the big, black Mercs were garbage. Yeah it's old school mentality. Like someone else said earlier in this thread, damn off
  25. I'd say take lots of pics and do a full report on the drive back Dave. I know I would like to read it, likely other people would too. Canada Rocks!
