I would spend the money on the reel, not the rod, and the reel would be a Shimano. I've got a $400 rod but my favorite is a $40 rod I've had for years. I wouldn't buy a rod or combo online without being able to hold it in my hand.

The beam and the floor space is great. The trade off is it's going to ride terrible in some chop. I would avoid Tracker boats too. JMO.

I would keep your new cottage off the grid. It is expensive to get the service in initially, then it's a lifetime contract with Hydro One and you are at their mercy with delivery charges and rate changes etc. Being off the grid you can control some of your expenses.
