  1. You're not really getting screwed. If you use the car 90% business and 10% personal, then apply that 90% against the gas spend and that's a deduction. You're taxable benefit is the money they pay you for personal gas use. Unless I'm missing something.
  2. If concerned your bass gear is fine for pike at this time of year anyway.
  3. Great for slow cooking. Not convenient if you want to quickly fire up some burgers. Also, Costco has a knockoff version that's supposed to be pretty good.
  4. My guess - They let it burn on the surface to get rid of some of the fuel. It's not because they "can't" sink it.
  5. Aside from the access issue, how does someone expand a public lake without gov't consent?
  6. For blackberry... - email is easily better (real push, better software, keyboard) - phone antenna is better. - case construction is more durable (if you drop things like i do) - battery For Galaxy or iphone you get access to WAY more apps, which is a pretty big deal.
  7. Society is in a very sad state if the gov't is shutting up the scientists. I don't like Sal sometimes, but am totally on his side here. Hard to believe many (most?) of you are okay with this.
  8. Not sure how legitimate these concerns are, but I have read that they don't ride that well - push and spray a lot of water. Concerns were around hull design. But again, no idea how legitimate and/or if it was limited to a specific model.
  9. Hopefully it becomes expensive enough to motivate people to move back to live bait.
  10. Like Roy said, you could get stuck in the snow. Highlanders are great, but get a regular gas version.
  11. Roy hit the nail on the head. Pretty sure you can't turn it off, which means you can get stuck in the snow. Opt for gas - the mileage is actually pretty good. Love highlanders too.
  12. Virgin and Koodo are Bell and Telus subs so sit on their networks, and both compete with Wind price wise.
  13. That's a fisher. Or at least not a wolverine. Very cool pic though.
  14. Does North Bay count as central ontario?
  15. Give him back his rod, put the lesson in your back pocket, and move on.
  16. One word -- starts with "R", ends with "E", and has "EVENU" in the middle.
  17. Salus tends to sell more to ocean-boaters than inshore. Not sure why. Their stuff is supposedly amazing. I have a helly hansen alpha and it's great too. Highly recommended.
  18. Big fan of Obama. No idea why anyone would prefer the jokers running for GOP leadership (except for Ron Paul, who seems to be the only guy telling the truth).
  19. Sal -- if them reaching carrying capacity comes with too much damage? What if it severely depletes some inland lakes and concentrated areas in the great lakes (like manitoulin island).....what then?
  20. Just realized it's from lake ontario. So, is Lake Ontario really representative of inland lakes? Food sources are shallower/smaller fish....how do deep swimming salmon fit into that equation? I'd love to see a graph showing what percentage of shallow dwelling sport fish (bass, perch, etc) they pluck off in the areas they inhabit.
  21. Sal... - is that from 06? - that data represents the entire province, right? Not just the areas where there are cormorant populations. - does that data come from great lakes populations? I suspect their food source differs substantially btwn great lakes (alewife?) and inland lakes (perch, bass, walleye, etc)? - does it make sense to compare on a macro level (consumption in the entire province) when on a micro level they concentrate and empty an area, then move on to other areas or just spread out? (not unlike locusts)
  22. Except for having been here before, how exactly are cormorants different from round gobies? Their population growth and impacts on the ecosystem don't seem that different from any other invasive species. Also - Dr Sal....please tell me you don't honestly like these things?
  23. Considered native here, but also expanding their range considerably beyond where they were historically. They're a problem that'll probably balance out, but if not we have a real mess on our hands.
  24. Native or not I hate them too. And while native their range has expanded to inland lakes where they had never previously been. Still - let nature take care of them.
  25. It's a great idea. My two cents.... 1 - It naturally works better for services, lodging, etc. No costs for shipping, warehousing, etc. Also, when a lodge or service company misses a day of service, that revenue is gone forever with no chance of recouping (at least without a time machine) so maybe more motivation to cut deals on slow times in the year. 2 - for actual products, would be better on those that ship direct from the manufacturer so that you don't need to deal with shipping, warehousing, returns, etc. With that in mind, it works best on higher-cost, smaller/easier to ship items. For example, the retailer margin on a $70 coleman stove might not be enough savings to justify the shipping expense and hassle overall, but what about a HDS fishfinder? Expensive (more margin), and relatively small/easy to ship.
