  1. Very worthy post Wayne. Joefish, My condolences to you as this would have to be the worst imaginable day for your Mother to have passed on. Not there is ever going to be a good day, but passing on Mothers day is just so sad. My own Mom is turning 88 this year and we took her out to Stage West on April 30th to celebrate Mothers Day a little early. I spoke to her a couple of times yesterday as well. She could not really see the show, but enjoyed "hearing" it and the dinner, and the company as well. All the best to Moms everywhere!
  2. Great post Ryan! Lots of dog lovers on this board. I personally feel that some of the mixed breeds are the best dogs. I know this to be the case with our "Bubba"! He has been great and was basically a farm pup that was born in the flower beds around the farm house. Given the chance, I would go your route when the time comes.
  3. Charles, I think you were close when you mentioned the "kill switch" on your outboard. My snowblower has a "key" made of plastic that must be in place in order for the motor to fire. Check and make sure it is there, and in tight. I have the same gas in mine all year also and no problems firing it. It actually takes quite a bit longer for today's gas to break down. If all was right with the machine and suddenly won't fire, this "key" is the first thing to check. Let us know. Oh, and don't forget to push the primer button a couple of times to get fuel into the carb before hitting the start switch.
  4. Now the truth comes out......I thought I had lots of friends on here. Turns out...... I only gots one!
  5. Pete, I make a habit of checking my trailer wheel hubs at every coffee stop, etc. I guess I could be considered overly paranoid about it, but I have never felt any heat in the bearing hubs. Even after an hour or so of highway driving, they run cool. I also am fanatical about tire pressure. I find the tires can really get warm when they are under inflated and flex a lot. My trailer wheels are 14" full size. I can't imagine what those little 8" wheels are like. My previous trailer was at least 12" wheels. Maybe loosen the warm one off a touch and keep an eye on them. Good luck!
  6. Congratulations! Well done!
  7. If freezing was an issue, we would have to bring our car batteries inside every night! As long as they are charged, batteries will be fine in sub zero weather.
  8. Fisherman, I'm with you on this one. It is really funny how information gets all twisted about as it passes from one person to another!
  9. Gerritt, Money does not always buy happiness! LOL About 3 years ago, I went out to HD to buy the BBQ that i thought would last me a lifetime. I paid $1,200.00 for a fancy stainless steel Ducane. Turns out, Ducane sold out to Weber a while back. Turns out this piece of crap was built offshore and is no longer made. I found this out when all five burners rotted out after the first year. They were pretty good about supplying burners under warranty, but what happens when the warranty runs out? Very disappointed to say the least. I've had the $149.00 ones from CTC or Zellers that lasted much longer than this one will. I thought I was buying a deluxe unit made by a premier North American manufacturer. Apparently, not everything is as it appears. I did buy a Natural Gas model though which is very nice to have. No more running out for Propane. Good Luck!
  10. Very sorry for your loss Cliff. My deepest condolences. She does sound like another of the good ones.
  11. Roy, As if the trout pictures were not good enough, the dinner shot is awesome! Looks like a meal fit for a king! Good stuff.
  12. Very well done! The fish, the photo's, the scenery, and the video! Good luck! How thick was the ice?
  13. Sorry to read this news Gord. Our condolences for sure. Our own old guy is 14 this year and is showing some serious signs of decline. He stumbles on the stairs a lot and just tonight, he stumbled coming across the bridge and I thought his hind legs had given out completely. It is difficult to see this happen to him and I can't imagine the loss you are feeling over Baron.
  14. In my opinion, if you were fishing from a boat, then he had no right to ask you to leave. If you got out and were fishing from his shore or docks, that is a whole nuther story! Like you said though, either way, i doubt a father and 3 year old son fishing public waters pose any serious security breach! LOL
  15. Sounds reasonable. Will it kill the trees? The bark is missing for at least 4 feet of bark on each tree. Thanks Guys!
  16. We were out for a walk in the forest tonight and noticed that several Pine trees had the bark stripped clean off of them way up high. I will get some pictures as soon as I can, but this bark removal is about 6 feet or more off the ground and all the way around the trunks. It is in patches above each set of branches. The bare trunk is shining through with little beads of sap. I would hate to think that there is some sort of insect out there that could spread through the forest. I searched around on the web, but found nothing. Everyone knows the real experts are here on OFC!!! Any ideas?
  17. Sad to hear that this sort of thing is happening out there, and glad to hear that you folks are doing something about it! Just a few other comments or thoughts: -Is it just me, or is this activity of keeping outrageous numbers of fish on the rise? -Imagine how much of this is going on that Cliff and his neighbours don't see? - What about all the other lakes? Who is watching them? - What kind of people walk amongst us that feel they can rape the lakes and rivers in this way without any regard whatsoever for the future generations? - Is this activity in way connected to the new open seasons and extended seasons? My blood just boils at these thoughts!
  18. This is certainly a different type of post, but I am enjoying the progress reports too! Awesome looking boat you got there! Congrats!
  19. Congratulations Roger! I know working for BPS was always on your "bucket list" and know you loved it there. I never really could understand how you made the drive from Grimsby to Vaughn for 5 1/2 years though. Must have been brutal! I make the drive every now and again from where i live and find it a long way....(ok, maybe not as long a drive as it is for Roy, but long enough for me!). Fishing World is fortunate to get you! Enjoy!
  20. ok, I can't quite see you clearly in your avatar photo, but yes, I was talking to Vince! Are you in the program at GBC? or already working in the trade as an apprentice?
  21. I just don't get it Cliff. Why would anyone want or need 400 fish? That is absolutely nuts! I can feed a whole family with a couple of 1 1/2 pound fish a few times per year. These numbers you mention here and the numbers talked about by the Rice Lake Tourist Assoc. in Rons post sound more like a commercial fishery than anything to do with "Sport Fishing". No one needs these numbers of fish for personal consumption. People keep a dozen Perch or Crappie and have a feast. Nothing wrong with that at all.
  22. Yes Matt, All day Friday!
  23. I'm guessing 10+ years as well. I remember our friend that is not to be named and Bob, I recall the photo spread as well with the frequent contributors. I brought Misfish over here....and I think he brought Joey over from another site.....so does that count for anything? LOL
  24. My main trade is HVAC/ Refrigeration. Been doing it for almost 30 years. I teach those subjects and controls for the past 15 years. I teach all the oxy-fuel welding, cutting, soldering, and brazing for our apprenticeship programs, and have also taught some electric welding as well. We are fully set up with Lincoln equipment for all three processes of MIG, TIG, and Stick. Good luck with your career! The trades are always a good thing to get into.
