  1. Bruce, Nice report and soe nice looking fish! What is it with "photobucket" and me? Every time I try to look at a photo that someone has posted from photobucket, it appears on my screen in a quick flash, then disappears! lol Is it a setting on my end?
  2. Sorry for your loss Dan. My condolences.
  3. Sad news, but a very interesting read. Thanks for posting this. I had no idea he was born a Canadian.
  4. Roy, I was okay with it until you got to the "willowy" and "graceful" part......then I lost all faith in your diagnosis! lol
  5. Good luck Cliff! It is nice to have you back...even if it is just until you find your next "job"! I have a feeling it might stick this time...retirement, I mean!
  6. Congrats on the 50 lb. mark! Way to go! Amazing given the short 8 week span. Just imagine, that is like lifting 5 sacks of potatoes off your body! Your inspiration had a very good effect on me as well. I have dropped 21 pounds in the same 8 weeks. Not as awesome as yours, but I am feeling much better all the same. We changed our eating habits and lifestyle. It is slower, but steady all the same.
  7. Very nice Lew. With that big Owl around, you better keep Ol' Marvin on a short lead! Those beautiful owl shots might just entice another wise old owl (Ron) to pop up!
  8. We commute 120 km per day and live in the snow belt, so yes, winter tires are a must. On my daily driver, I have AWD and use Triple Tread tires. They have three different rubber compounds. One for cold, one for wet, and one for hot and dry. They seem to be holding up well. The other vehicles all have two sets of tires. Winter and summer.
  9. Awesome shot Dan!
  10. They are beautiful animals Lew. We don't see them too often. The snow is so deep here this month and I think they are staying deeper in the woods. I have not seen any Turkeys in a while either. I would much rather see turkey's off in the distance. My Buddy feeds them in his yard and they are dirty beasts. lol The deer come around in the spring to devour the tulips! Can't say I mind though. They were here first! My Wife wants a vegetable garden, but I'm afraid that would be a loosing battle! We have a rabbit around the house these days and I'm sure it would do a number on a vegetable garden.
  11. Great news! Thanks for the update Cliff.
  12. I seems like some of the Suzuki Automobile dealers also service marine motors? I don't know how that works, but I guess it is possible. I have seen outboard motors for sale at Honda car dealerships.
  13. You have my positive vibes as well pikeslayer. Let's hope for a speedy recovery.
  14. That's great guys! Any opinions on the Polar Kraft Boats? Thanks
  15. Sorry for the double post! Something screwy here!
  16. I attended a general seminar with James Lindner and it was very good as well. He was on for a whole hour and answered a lot of questions at this one as well. I too felt this was worth my admission price. Gord Pyzers level of knowledge is also hard to beat.
  17. I was looking at a boat with Suzuki 50 HP 4 stroke on the week-end at the show. Any opinions on this make and model? One thing I noticed, is that there are not as many dealers for these motors as other brands. I would like a Yamaha, but the boat I like comes with the Suzuki from dude's in Waubashene. The Suzuki is on a Starcraft. What about Polar Boats? Anyone have any experience or opinions? I've never really heard of them, but it looks decent enough. The Polar Aluminium I looked at had a Yamaha engine. Thanks
  18. We were up around the $2500 mark for the season at Layzee Acres on Lake Dalrymple as well. I had a trailer there for 26 years and it is well worth it. If you have small children, the experience is amazing! The price of cottages today puts them out of reach for most of us and this is a reasonable alternative. I did not have a dock space any longer at the end, but that would have been $300 on top. I did have 30 amps, water and sewer and the lot was large (50' x 60'). The only reason we gave it up is because we now live in the country and were not getting up there often enough.
  19. Dan, Please enter me for a chance to win! Thanks
  20. The thickest ice I have ever measured in the last 6 years on our pond is 9". It does not seem to matter what the weather is like. The springs that feed it are 46 degrees F all year round and I suspect this erodes away at the surface ice from the underside. Larger bodies of water less than 10 minutes away can accumulate almost 24" during the same time period and they are a lot less sheltered. Pretty much all creeks have some movement to them. I personally would not risk it.
  21. Honey is the only natural food that will not spoil....supposedly.
  22. If any of you remember the old "Molson's Big Fish" contest that used to run here up until the late 1980's, Charlie Wray dominated those contests every year! He had top entries in a lot of different species categories. I used to enjoy seeing where the bigguns were coming from. They used to name the lake and everything. There is no doubt in my mind that Charlie knows his stuff is worthy of a show. Now having said that, I don't personally like or watch his shows anymore. He is a product of the industry just like all the others...especially here in Canada where they have to blatantly flog their sponsors name every third sentence. Nothing but one big long 1/2 hour infomercial! Like already mentioned, I think there would be a lot more value in just showing the products they are using and discretely promoting them instead of ramming the sponsors product at us constantly over and over. I don't blame the hosts for this. They have to do what they have to do to stay on the air and make a living. It is the sponsor companies that disgust me. My 2 centavos worth! lol
  23. Awesome Pete! Keep at it! You have inspired me to do something as well. My Wife started "Weight Watchers" last week..and basically, I just watch her! LOL I'm staying on the same program as her so we shall see where this takes us. There is no way in hell that I'm going to write down everything I eat and keep track of "points"...but a change in lifestyle and eating habits is a great idea.
  24. Got er' done though....didn't he!
