I'd rather see fish remains in the water then smell them in the garbage Some people think it's wrong, and it may be illegal, but it's the best way to get rid of them imo. Just be smart about it. Leaving salmon and trout to rot on the shore though should be frowned upon

Gagnon sports sells a lot of bluewater frames. Maybe give them a call and ask for their number and info?

I have a question about swivels. Why are you guys running them above your floats? Isn't it harder to mend your line and keep on the surface?? Also, when your break off you loose your float and everything, what is the benefit of running it above instead of below? Ohh, and has any one tried the nano fill on there pin yet?? lol

I always use a backing, but I usually use tip-up line from ice fishing and I've never had a problem with my line slipping. And if he's got 8 reels to spool up that's 600 yards of line he saves. Depending on the application, I can spool 3 reels easily for bass and never see my backing with one spool of 150 yard braid. Then like rizzo said, switch it onto anther reel and it's almost like having new line! Braid can be very cheap or very expensive, it all depends on how you use it.

I've used them but they seem even weaker then black birds but they are a bit smaller so. You said you run braid, how does that hold up, does it float good? And does it help on 20+ yard hooksets? I'm guessing you have another reel with mono for the colder months? I was going to run it on one of my pins before I sold a set up..

I don't know where you get your micro ball barring swivels, but the ones I always seem to find not only bend out of shape but, they don't really turn that freely in the first place. So unless your running a heavy line it's not going to help much, but then again heavier line doesn't twist as much in the first place.
-
IMO swivels won't help much if at all. People spin there reels while casting to counter the effect of pulling the line off the side. If you get to lazy for that (like me...) then your going to have to deal with line twists here and there. Make sure your split shot are round and try to drag your bait across the water instead of through the water when retrieving. Also if your using roe, take some extra time while tying it to make sure its as round as possible. If your going to use a swivel put it under the float. Make sure you put it low enough to adjust your float.

Good job Matt nice ski. I wouldn't recommend a boga grip. I tried to use one for Pike in the spring and all that did was loose me fish (and lures after getting wrapped) Those fish just shake way to much and put a lot of stress on them selves and the boga. As for lures, scan the classifieds and kijiji. You can find some good deals especially when purchasing lots.

The shaft of the motors only house the wires and it's probably sealed at the head of the motor to. You can probably cut the head right off and fabricate a mount onto it. Sounds like a fun project to me if your not worried about scrapping your trolling motor.

Muskie Fishing on a spinning reel and medium rod
GoneFishin replied to SirWhite's topic in General Discussion
I've caught almost every Musky in my life on light equipment and never had a problem with them running much or being tired at the side of the boat. How bad it could be to target them for a weekend without the right gear? I know there's the odd monster out there and you need to respect those fish and try to do what you can to make sure they go back unharmed but chances are he's not going to be getting into monsters throwing bass baits at them for a weekend imo. Now if your thinking about throwing larger baits that's a whole other subject. When I got my first musky rod I thought a 4oz max rating was over kill. Not quite!!! lol. I still worry about the tip snapping off during a back lash... and the pull some of those baits have is unreal and is enough to max out any mh or probably heavy bass rod. -
What exact does Shimano's VBS do & when does it kick in?
GoneFishin replied to okumasheffield's topic in General Discussion
Make sure you know how to adjust your tension knob, because it sounds like you might have it to tight possibly. You should be able to notice a big difference from having all brakes on to none at all. There is no all around set-up for the brakes. It all depends on the lure/weight, rod action, line and wind speed/direction. -
What is the best way to untangle a baitcaster birdnest?
GoneFishin replied to okumasheffield's topic in General Discussion
Learning to take out knots is half the fun of learning how to use a baitcaster! But seriously.... everyone's got to learn how... And don't cut your line... unless your going to replace it. Make sure your spool is always full and it will make casting a bit easier and allow you to cast farther. Braid is harder to learn with casting because it's easier to back lash and harder to un-knot but is far superior to mono IMO. I would explain what I do when back lashed but it would just confuse you. So just be careful and don't try to learn to quickly, or you'll be paying for a lot of line.. -
My condolences to you and your family. I haven't had many deaths in my family until the last couple years and I don't think one didn't involve people getting angry over things posted on facebook. I personally don't think there is any reason to be posting pictures of someone on there last legs and I sure know I wouldn't want my pictures being taken or displayed on the internet. Some of my family are still fighting over a situation very similar to yours and it's separating that part of the family..

I'm thinking about trying it and replacing the braid on one of my spinning set-ups. This is off there website: http://www.berkley-f...om/line/nanoFil Not a Mono. Not a Braid. The Next Generation of Fishing line. NanoFil is made out of gel-spun polyethylene, much like a superline. This ultimate spinning reel fishing line consists of hundreds of Dyneema® nanofilaments that are molecularly linked and shaped into a unified filament fishing line. Dyneema, The World's Strongest Fiber™, gives this line superline type strength and our uni-filament process makes it feel and handle like a smooth monofilament I think I know what I'll be running on my pin this fall.

Sounds like a great combo. Compres are worth every penny imo. BTW they are selling berkley NANO fill at canadian tire for 15 bucks. it's there new (mono?)

Never caught a smallie in the bay but have caught largies. They don't tend to hang around in the bay very long so you would probably be better off going to the nuke plant and trying for smallies.

Weightless fishing and high visibility line.
GoneFishin replied to ccmtcanada's topic in General Discussion
I use tracer braid on my senko rod and it does help but it's never going to be easy to see your line when there's chop. You just need to find different ways of figuring out when your getting hit and not always count on being able to see it. -
The question I would be asking is would the police pull over a guy on a crotch rocket with dead animals tied to it

Have you checked for a loose screw or anything blocking the track? Check with a level to see if it is warped anywhere. If you would like my Father could fix it for you. He specializes in windows and thinks it might need to be reinstalled.

I'm still not sure about this... I think you should fly down to Columbia and meet them in person, just to be sure

Flourocarbon leaders, can you buy them?
GoneFishin replied to Dave Bailey's topic in General Discussion
I wouldn't personally buy them but you can find them pre-made. If you are just planning on going for bass, pickeral ect. then you won't need to go over 20lb and you can just do a uni to uni to attach it to your main line and tie directly to the hook. If you are looking to target musky then you need heavy fluorocarbon which doesn't tie very easily. So you'll want to crimp a snap swivel to one end and a double barrel to the other. The perfection loop is a good easy knot for tieing your main to the leader, and if you can manage you could also get a swivel on there using that knot, it's just a little difficult to say the least lol.. -
Quickly scan through the forum, you'll find about 2 dozen threads on this topic from the last couple months alone. I think the mods should let a board member do a write up on the pros and cons of spinning/baitcasting set-ups and sticky the thing to the top of the board!!

Gagnon sports has a sale coming up and you'll be able to choose from a couple rods on sales but they do have a 2 piece compre for 50 bucks
-
I caught a large mouth fry on the weekend with my nephews. Couldn't resist keeping it so now I have a 1 inch long largie in a tank at home.
-
I picked up a compre for for under 60 on sale not sure if you'll be able to find one though. I also have a bob izumi and for a 2 piece rod (and the price range) it's actually quite nice.
