I get really serious no matter what fish I'm targeting. But if it come down to me actually going out for salmon I wouldn't disagree with your selection a bit lol.

Check out the new shimano reels. Thy are under 100 bucks and I can't see any other reels in that price range to be very comparable. I have yet to try it but if your looking for something decent I'm sure it's worth a shot.

The rod you ordered will have a trigger to hold the rod with the reel on top. IMO spinning set ups don't have much purpose besides throwing light baits. You can fish every thing just about with a bait caster and you can have better control, longer casts and you can use heavier line. There are a lot of benefits to a baitcaster. Using them is pretty simple to, you just need to have some patients and you'll get the hang of it in no time.

How many of you actually eat your catches?
GoneFishin replied to shimano25's topic in General Discussion
I thought you might have been saying .5 because all the pike I seen you catch last winter weighed about an ounce and a half! haha. Only time I've seen pike that small caught and you were hammering them lmao. -
Couldn't find them anywhere 2 years ago for ice fishing. A polish fellow that fished the same area swore by them and gave me an old one he had bought from back home. It worked great since the minnow could still swim pretty freely and we never had any bite offs. The line was so thin that you could tie a knot in it and barely be able to get it out. I'm still a big fan of floro even for pike, but if you worried about bite offs, this stuff should work great.

I had a really good time out there with you last Friday. One thing is for sure, I'll never forget that loon! Never in my life did I think I bird could swim that fast, or would try to eat a bass that big! Makes it a lot easier to under stand how they catch their food lol. I hope we can hook up again before the season is over, wouldn't mind doing some musky fishing next time.

I thought it was a decent movie, but I have to agree with my girlfriend that there isn't a real plot to the movie. Just an excuse to get all those guys togeather in an all out action movie. Atleast it isn't boring.

Nice pair of bass, I say 9.2lbs. -
Aren't they discontinued? I though they were replacing the old 870 with a new version? Could be wrong but either way the express will be my first gun. Never heard a bad word about it and I know more people with that gun then any others combined.

How is every one liking the new iphone 4? I have the 3gs and have been having lots of problems with it lately and I'm starting to think about upgrading. There pretty much one thing I would like to know. Does it actually work as a phone!? Any freeze ups/blank screens?

Nice catch. I had the chance to fish them 4 years ago out there and it was crazy. We were pulling up 3 jumbos at a time on pickeral rigs! I'm hoping to go out again really soon.

Lol I've seen people ask him that on different boards.. One thing I know after all these years is he isn't going to change it lmao. Good luck finding a partner, I'd bring you along but my boats tiny and you would be doing more explaining then fishing with all of your experience haha
-
Had a great time out there today Mike. To bad the rain didn't hold out, or we would probably still be there lol. Sorry I didn't take pictures of more of your fish I thought we had taken a couple dozen already lol.

I agree with what you are saying. I buy shimano rods because I (know) I can replace it no matter what. After hearing this though I am a little disipointed. We spend the money because we know we are getting a quality product that will be In the line up for life, or atleast that's what I thought...

I went there last weekend without the boat but there was a nice little boat lunch near the little river that goes through the park.

Love that one. Don't need it in my boat though. If I had one my girl would be sending my buddies flying out of the boat so she had more room to fish! Lol

I need some advice on locating walleye! I've been fishing Scugogg lately and have been out 5 times so far and haven't caught a single walleye... I've tried worm harnesses, ripping bucktails, jigging gulp shads and leeches with and with out minnows/worms, on nuckle ball, jitter blade, whistler and road runner jigs.. I've tried fishing in 5 up to 15 feet of water. I'm having a hard time locating a solid patch of cabbage or coontail weeds. I'm not sure what to look for. What depth and water temp should I look for? I only have an electric motor to get around with right now so I cant bomb across the lake to find spots yet. Next time I go out I'm going to start throwing some cranks, jerk baits and spinner baits but I would really like to learn how to target walleye with a jig. Any advise is appreciated

I'm pretty sure most ministry or transportation offices have boat exams available. I got mine while at the beer store last long weekend... Still swear I couldn't have came even close to passing... But w/e $60 bucks later and I have my boat licence for life (or so they say... )

I just tried that knot on my 80lb floro and not only does it work great it's probably the fastest knot out there you can use. Thanks a lot for the tip, you just made my life a little easier
-
I can second that! I remember fishing a stubborn brown. After spooking her I found a cray fish and it was gone before it made it 4inches from the top of the water! I love coming back to stubborn fish, good luck hope yeah get him.
-
I would try frenchmansbay. There probably won't be any trout in duffins and there's lots of cat fish carp and pike in frenchmans. Either way good luck.
-
Millwork sells it, not sure if there's one up your way, but a lot of flooring stores would probably sell it. I payed 6.99 a yard for mine and put it down with a spray on epoxy.
-
I use my knife or pliers and whack them on the top of the head, seems to work fine for me. Might get something a little bigger this year though since I plan on keeping more fish then I usually have.

Chalk up another one for the good guys

That's good, I'm glad they are responding to people's complaints. Is it just me or does there seem to be a lot more CO's out there this year? I've been stopped 4 times so far, on shore in areas I never thought they would patrol, and it's been a different co every time. I've got no reason to complain at all, but I'm just not use to being asked for my license by them or even seeing them around :S -
Yah I always thought the big issue when choosing line for crank baits was the sinking ability. I'm sure you'll end up with a few more fish if your lure is getting to the zone quicker and I was under the impression that braid is bad to use with crank baits because it has a tendency to float. This is a topic I would like to hear more about. I was just about to change to either floro or mono this year for my crank bait rods, but I'm not going to bother if it doesn't get me down deeper/quicker.
