  1. I haven't found many nice ice rods. I won't buy them paired up with the reels because the drags on those reels almost always suck. I tried a premier but it was way to soft and the fibers cracked and the rod broke. Has a warranty but.. The avid feels a little better I might pick one up but for like 10 bucks more that custom rod that BillM mentioned sounds like a good idea.
  2. I had a police officer pull his gun on me and tell me to drop my inflatable dingy that I was inflating. I was 12 years old... They were searching for someone in the forest near my house but being only 12 I thought that was a little more then excessive. He was in full uniform though. Your situation seems a little sketchy. There's no reason to pull a gun because of drugs and especially if he wasn't even sure in the first place.
  3. They clearly have a different values then Canadians IMO. When their anthem came on it looked like they were in the pub tying one on. But they worked hard for it so if that's how they want to celebrate then so be it.
  4. There's still ice out there, just gotta find it
  5. Sorry wasn't trying to bad mouth them. They are good sleds and I bought mine last year when they went on sale. I just have way to much equipment and if I go out alone it's hard to pull two sleds.
  6. I have 2 snow trek 45's that I would gladly trade for something bigger.
  7. Those look like some nice pics, good job. Glad to hear the kit worked out good.
  8. Yah, I just got my girlfriend to buy me an early birthday present and picked up a little energizer battery. I also just wired my fish tv because it didn't come with a power auxiliary cable.. Can't wait to use them both but I am starting to think should of went with the size 16 instead of 12.. I'll have another report up soon, got a couple pike and perch today and I'm hoping to get out tomorrow.
  9. I wish I had the extra money right now for a kit but I'm going to have to piece it together. Right now it's hooked up to a car battery... I'm not sure how to fix your problem but, if your reset your settings it should go away. I can't wait to try it out on simcoe for lakers and whities.
  10. I am using the transducer that came with it. I have it set up on a portable titelock transducer mount, but I'm going to bolt it to a piece of dowel and float it in my hole.
  11. I don't think there is a really easy way. Takes a while to set up most of the time but I found angling the camera down a bit helps a lot. I wish I could figure something out, it would get a lot more use if I did.
  12. Yep, comes standard. You have to see it to really appreciate all of the features. And I was fishing in a bay off lake Ontario.
  13. Who slept on Christmas? Lol I would wait long enough for my parents to fall sleep then I'd creep into the living room and get my stocking! Rip that apart, then wait untill around 5 then start making a ruckus in hope that my parents would wake up. I got one of those creepy crawler sets to mercman started making my first baits with it lol, I was so proud of them lmao.
  14. Hey guys. I got out today with a buddy to do some Christmas eve ice fishing. Haven't done to good in the past outings but today was pretty steady. We started off with a nice large mouth bass on a buckshot spoon. Then next we got a huge bowfin! (first for me) hit like a perch then ran like a pike :S The rest of the day we spent running back and forth to are rods that were bouncing around and getting nailed by some big perch. Got 2 that were 14" and some 12"ers I also spent some time playing with my hds5. Flashers have absolutely nothing on these units. The marks on the screen are my buckshot spoon tipped with a minnow. I can't wait to try it out in deeper water.
  15. Think I seen some at princess auto for dirt cheap last weekend. It was the one in whitby.
  16. Good job those are some nice fish, and thanks for sharing your findings. Now I know why they love silver/black xraps so much lol.
  17. Check on kijiji. I just picked up a buoy O boy float/survival suit brand new for 120. At that price every one should have one.
  18. Those look like some nice baits, you sure have come far. Keep it up bud!
  19. Nice start for sure! Glad to see I'm not the only one dieing to get out on the ice
  20. Are there any restrictions using your every day fish finder in the cold? I'm planning on bringing out my hds5 but don't want to ruin it obviously..
  21. There's a few things you need to take into consideration, but I would say mono is the way to go float fishing. Braid retains to much water and will make it hard to mend your line and pick up your slack. Floro is heavy and in previouse experience had to much memory.. I wouldn't go higher then 6-8lb if your running your main straight to the hook.bIf your planning on running leaders all the time then you can get away with heavier main line. Using leaders may seem like a lot of work but it's alot easier to tie on a leader then it is to redo your whole set up when you get snagged... Plus you'll save more then enough money from floats you don't lose to pay for your line and leader material lol. What you really need to figure out is what rod you will be using before you decide what line to get. Longer/light action rods will absorb a lot of shock and will allow you to use lighter leaders which is why you see so many trout fishermen using them. When the water gets clear some people use under 4lb leaders. I'm currently using 10 lb trilene transition for my main which is actualy turning out to be pretty decent, And 6lb frog hair for my leaders. I don't bother to ever go under 4lb but even that seems over kill sometimes..
  22. I caught one in Oshawa river before when I was a kid. It was during the salmon run and I had no idea if it was a laker or not because I had never seen one before. Brang it home for my grandfather and sure enough, female laker, got a bunch of skein from her too.
  23. Yah well it's hard to keep enough interest to read a whole thread when people like you just spam them. If you had something intelligent to post then why didn't you include it in your first post?
  24. Lol I love how your always concerned about people flossing... I think you should stop spamming peoples threads. If someone is looking for help then maybe they are past snaging or they would just be using treble hooks or heavy lures I'm sure. Trout deffinitaly feed in the rivers and fishing in slow water on the clear side can call for no floats because trout can easily spook from seeing your float on the top of the water. I've never used eggs weights and bottom bounced in the river but I have fished trout with light setups with awesome results. Couple of double AA split shot about 4 feet up from your roe bag. Other then clear shallow conditions I would just stick to a float set up though.
  25. Most opinions on here come from people reading other peoples posts.. I use to do a lot of salmon fishing when I was younger and I can guarantee salmon will feed in the rivers. Flossing does happen for sure but just because something is floating by a salmons mouth doesn't mean it's going to go in there... If they don't want it they will avoid it plain and simple. I use to fish with large groups of people and we would use flies, roe, worms, artificial eggs, marshmallows (scented and un-scented) sponge, you name it. Some days nothing works, some days it would be everything and others you would need a certain bait. If you could only catch them by flossing then it would be the same pattern day in and day out.
