  1. trailer jack , and helper ( to guide you) and practise. Oh yeah patience as well. Seriously it snot as hard as it looks . Only dinge dthe bumper on the new van once ! Whats a bit harder is backing up the trailer once its attached .find a big empty lot and practise some more . Good luck
  2. I'm bit worried about the slush ,last I heard the 4 wheelers were having a tough go of it. Maybe we will all be perch fishing !
  3. Gettin close folks !! Weather looks good and heres hoping there is a good crowd. Planning to drop by tomorrow to check conditions ( parking lot , ice conditions etc) will forward pics tomorrow night. From what I hear some awesome prizes up for grabs as well Tinbanger
  4. If only the municipalities were as efficent ticketing for Littering offences as they are for parking !! Just harder to catch the offenders I guess .
  5. Fishing line ... absolutley always come home with a bunch in my pocket when we shore fish. Years ago my Dad managed one of those service stations on the 401 and I remember the day he scooped up a pile of Cigarette butts some one had just dumped out there car door and dumped them back into the vehicle ! Guy was to shocked to say anything. Can't see myself doing that ,but I have pointed out to a few people things they 'accidently' left behind .Usualy they either a( ignore or pick it up .I am selective on who I 'help' tinbanger
  6. Excellent site and as far as the management of it goes. They are good ,fair ....... and above all fast Tinbanger
  7. We do what most fishermen I know do .Most every time we go out we bring back someone elses garbage . Worst is when we ice fish ( polish vodka bottles , Tim horton cups , beer cans) and shore fishing ( bait containers ,water bottles ,cig packs) At least I hope to set the example with my kids and maybe help out just a bit. Part of the reason with the parking restrictions around Cooks bay . Tinbanger
  8. Picking up the brewed coffee and hot choc at 6am . so we should have hot coffee on site before 7 am
  9. Not designed to handle that snow load I guess. Most newer structures in the 'snow belt' are designed to handle the extra weight. More people hurt trying to clear snow off roofs etc than from collapsing sturtures. Reminds me a better clear off the shed roof! Tinbanger
  10. glad to hear your daughters ok . Had the pleasure of seeing a similar type driver pulled over yesterday on the 400. I was following an unmarked cruiser at about 115 k when I saw this black suv zipping up the right lane then he decided to cut in behind me and the car behind me. He never even saw the cop untill there were flashing lights in his rear view mirror Almost cheered out loud on the way buy
  11. must be the seeningly never ending snow or the trip to the fishing show but can't seem to stop thinking about summer trips. What trips are you planning beyond the weekend outings? Think we are set on a trip to Dryden/Thunder Bay for a couple of weeks end of July august Nipegon, local walleye lakes and a 'secret' bass lake are on the list of 'must do's' Maybe a Musky outing as well Last trip couple of years ago was bad timing with prolonged low pressure ,rain and cool weather ( heater in the rented tent trailer came in handy) Planning to tow our own boat up for some serious fishin. Only have to wait now
  12. Worth it just to get you dreaming of that milder weather . Kinda ticked to see the 2007 merc have different cowlings makes my 06 look old !! Big Al ,sorry your highlight was meeting Pikeie and I Tinbanger
  13. you will want to be able to move alot ( to find the fish) so watch the auger size ,our 6" has worked well so far ,no problem getting those 6" perch ! Go light on line and downsize presentations as the bite has been tough this year. From what I hear mid season ( now) perch have dispersed from the early large schools and moved to deeper water ( up to 60'!?) Depending on were you are you may encounter the odd pike , so having a few rods set up for differnet species and presentations would be good. Good luck and look fwd to the report Tinbanger
  14. Pikeie and I made it there just before 7pm and got some of the last few seats , it end up a full house with 53 people in attendance. Wils presentation was interesting and well balanced , something for the novice as well as the more experienced. Lots of interesting facts about the lake 55 species of fish 1962 Rainbow smelt first discovered 1987 Black crappie first discovered 2000 blue gill 2005 rusty crayfish 2006 goby in 2004 Quagga mussels were found , they like everything Zebra mussels don't deep water , soft bottoms Discussions on how these invading sepcies effect the fish .IE Whitefish at 60FOW now commonly hit lures suspended at the 30 foot mark , pike are getting tougher thru the ice both could be a result of water clarity improving . Interesting discussion on perch and how everyone is experiencing more 'dinks' less jumbos .Appears to be no clear answer but with the appearance of the Spiney water flea the perch or becoming used to ' sucking' them off plant life resulting in a much softer 'bite' Wils suggestions boiled down to finesse presentations ( lighter line , smaller baits, less and more subtle jigging) and watching your line. Good night , ended up with a few lures as a door prize and met up with a fellow OFNR 'FYRFTRY' )sorry as I may have butchered your handle.) Hopefully more local events like this to come. Tinbanger
  15. Confrimed for the coffee AND hot choc . These will be premade in insulated 'cambros' ( large plastic insulated conatiners ) planning one for coffee and one for Hot choc ,apx 75 cups in each. Also will bring along cream, sugar, stirsticks ,cups ,lids etc. I'll bring alnong a couple lbs of coffee in case we run low . will there be a coffee brewer on site ? tinbanger
  16. we HAD live bait and did just as well!
  17. well a least they got thier hut on the ice. Kinda of a related storey from earlier this week when Pikeie and I spent a few hours on the ice. There was a decomissioned APC (large rubbered tire vehicle , sand color with a 'turret' on top) stuck in the mud were the dirt bikers play about 500yds from the lake at the end of 89. Quite the expensive venture as the first Currie heavy tow truck( type use to haul 18 wheelers) got stuck as well and a second heavy tow was there when we left around 6pm trying to pull out both mired vehicles. And I thought fishing was expensive.
  18. surprised to see vehicles on the ice .We were out Tue afternoon on 5" of ice.Off Gilford in front of Kon Tiki. How was the bite ? we had very little luck. Hope to be out one morning this week.
  19. Not a Tiller but we picked up the 1775 Classic SS ( Side console) last year. Very happy with it . Only complaints is stiching in drivers seat is starting to rip at the seam. Speedo hasn't worked since day one and the down trim on the throttle stopped working the week before it went to storage Hopefully all repaired and fast she's asleep till spring Smooth stable and dry ride and the 90 hp merc is a perfect match . Tiller definetly a better fishing set up but we also ski and tube and the windsreen is nice in November Cosidering we upgraded from a 197? springbok it is quite the improvement Tinbanger
