  1. I've used the smaller one's before. They are a decent reel, made with corrosion resistant parts for saltwater. They usually go for $150usd, I would assume that shipping from Australia would bump that $75 up to $100 pretty quick.
  2. It's at the east end of the mouth of south bay.
  3. I caught an underwater power line with the anchor once, man was a scared! Also caught a 8" sunfish in 32fow trolling for walleye. But the worst was a pair of sweatpants, I was worried that there was going to be something else coming up with them as it was shortly after a couple of people disappeared on the lake!
  4. I moved over right in front of lonely island. There is a substantial depth change right off the rock point from about 10' to 30', I'm in about 24'. I'm heading out tonight and if I don't get anything, my shack is going up in flames!!! LOL!!!
  5. Is anyone catching fish! I haven't caught a walleye in a month. I've moved the shack around a few times and still can't seem to find them. same story from most of the people I talk to.
  6. well there was no way that sucker was moving frozen solid in about 8" of ice. took an hour to chip out then jacked it up. Moving it back over to the East side of the lake today.
  7. I have used shimano products almost exclusively since I started fishing over 20 years ago. I think they make a great product and will always continue to use them. With that said, in the last couple of years I have purchased some of the bps stuff and am really impressed. Last year I bought a pro qualifier tournament reel. It casts a mile and the drag is smooth. I also have a Johhny Morris signature series reel which I find to be a little heavy. I have a shimano Ci4 paired with a bps carbon lite rod and was surprised by the lightness and sensitivity of the rod. Take a good look at the bps products, for the money they can't be beat.
  8. I got a report from my buddies dad that my shack is still standing lol!! We are heading out today with the family, hopefully there is a little snow for the kids to play in.
  9. Just wanted to give anyone headed out on Nip this weekend a heads up... With the warm weather we've had the last couple days there are many slushy areas along the south shore and in Callander Bay. Mike
  10. I've never been a fan of Abu Garcia, I've just never liked the design and fit and finish of their reels. I'm heading down to bps this weekend and I'll check out some of the stuff first hand. I'm also going to Florida next month and may pick up a reel down there. I'm seriously considering getting a saltwater inshore reel.
  11. I'm very passionate on this subject, and feel that there are a number of parties to blame for the decline in lake Nipissing walleye stocks. However most of the damage has already been done by lack of regulation and enforcement in previous generations. I think this thread should be locked before I post how I really feel!
  12. great info, thanks. I'm thinking of trying the bps inshore reels anyone ever use one? I'm guessing I'll go with a compre rod somewhere close to 8'. As for trolling I've got a couple tekota 500's, so I'm set for that.
  13. So I'm thinking of doing some more serious musky and pike fishing this year but don't really have the rod/reel to handle those big baits. I'm looking for something with a lower(not cheap) cost. What are you guys using or would recommend?
  14. There are many good guides on both coasts. it all depends on what kind of fishing you want to do. A typical day inshore fishing will set you back about $400 for 3 anglers. Expect to catch redfish(see my profile pic) and trout, you may get the odd flounder and ladyfish mixed in. If you want to get offshore after some bigger fish I suggest sticking with the East coast as the gulf stream brings warmer water closer to shore. Charters usually run from $700-1000 depending on the size of the boat and how long you want to stay on the water. This time of year isn't really the greatest for offshore fishing but there are always kingfish and some dolphin(mahi-mahi) in the area. Don't count on any billfish as they show up when the water gets a little warmer. As for tarpon you'll need to travel further south to find them in March, from Orlando your talking up to 4 hours. We have a place just North of Clearwater, I always use Capt. Stewart Ames. He has a very nice clean boat and his tackle is always well taken care of. http://www.tampa-fishing-charter.com/ hope this helps you out a bit
  15. agreed, stay close to the snowmobile trail. just be careful, as there are some small islands that may be covered in snow. There is over 2.5ft of ice on most of the lake.
  16. you can catch all kinds of things at the moe-zee!
  17. Sorry guys, some family obligations came up and I won't be able to make it. I might try and swing by towards the end of the day and see how everyone made out.
  18. My clam got beat up pretty bad a couple of years ago. I fiberglasses a good portion of the bottom and its still holding up.
  19. pretty sure all operators have their huts out
  20. strike lite all the way. 4stoke, very light and very quiet. highly recomend.
  21. I had a bit of a problem with a "gentleman" on Nip last year. It was a couple of days after the opener and we were just getting our shack out as I had to work the week leading up. So I figured i would take my portable out for a couple of hours to see what was around. I pulled up to a well know spot and proceeded to drill a couple of holes to check depth and see if I could mark any fish. This guys comes flying over from a shack that was well over 80' away and starts yelling at me telling my that I'm going to flood the ice and freeze his shack in. I was very surprised by this as the water was almost an inch below the ice! He then told me that his family had been fishing in this spot for years and that I wasn't welcome there. By this point I'm starting to get a little annoyed, but it wasn't till he told me that it was young punks like me that cause all the problems out on the lake. Listen, I'm 25 years old and have been fishing on lake Nipissing since I was 2, I really don't think that I cause much trouble. A few more words were exchanged and he started to get very aggressive, so I took a step towards him and loaded up my right. He immediately backed off and started to apologize. I worked as a bouncer for 5 years and have been in several fights, he's damn lucky it didn't go any farther than that. With all that said I packed up and left, I don't need that kind of crap.
  22. Lot's of ice and lot's of snow. My shack is out on the south shore and has been pretty slow the last little while.
  23. I have a 4 stoke auger, makes holes in about 5 sec! And my portable can fit 3...I stress the "can" part. Hopefully it won't be too cold. Looking forward to meeting some fellow North Bay anglers.
  24. Count me in. I'll bring my clam and snowmobile, some extra gear and auger.
  25. great thatnks guys, just heading out now. I'll post some pics when we return.
