  1. I had a quick peek through the regs but couldn't really find anything. He's almost five so I'm hoping he can, but I guess there is only one way to find out! My plan was to have a tip up outside and the two of us jigging in the hut
  2. so I'm heading out on Nipissing with my four year old today. Is he allowed to have his own line on top of my two, or is it split up between us? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  3. So I guess it's time for my yearly post..lol I was out on Nipissing(2km off lonely island) today and the ice is good and solid at 7-8". There are some slushy spots due to the amount of snow we've had up here, but all in all the lakes in pretty good shape. Hope everyone has a great Christmas with friends and family Mike
  4. I've had the chance to get out a few days before I start school next week and had some great luck. First off I want to say that if you are driving out on the lake be VERY careful. There have been several incidents with vehicles going through the ice! I have my shack set up on the southshore between Deepwater point and Lonely island right on a break that goes from 32' up to 20'. The perch action has been non stop, we are catching them on everything(spoons, jigs, etc..) The walleye seem to be favouring a spoon tipped with a minnow. All were caught between 3:30 to 5pm. I'll try and get some pictures on our next outing.
  5. I'm pretty sure BigEd's is closed this year. But your right, he's the man when it comes to bait. You could try calling billy bob's 705-474-2248, he lives right next door, so he might open early for you.
  6. I measured 8" yesterday at the mouth of Kervin bay. The hut I saw going across was for personal use, but the outfitters are strating to bring out their huts too.
  7. Almost 8"...saw a shack going out this morning!

Have you contacted a small engine shop?
  9. Was out on Nipissing today. South shore measured 5-7" in a few different areas.
  10. I used 20lbs all summer as leader material. Never once had a problem. I ever used it when I was down in Florida fishing for redfish around mangroves and docks, never once broke off.
  11. I usually use a small octopus(dropshot) hook with a live shinner and enough splitshot to get it down on a tip up and a jigging rod with a spoon tipped with a minnow head. Never seems to let me down. Which hut operator are you going with?
  12. cool..thanks guys. Checked out dootalk, lots of good info on there. I'll let you know how it turns out once we get some solid ice here.
  13. its designed as a trail sled but it still has all the same bits and peices as the mxz and the formula 3, just set up for a smoother ride. 5800rpm might be a little high but thats why I'm looking for imput.
  14. So here's the deal. I have a 99 Formula Deluxe 670, and I have been thinking about doing a little work to it. The engine is bullet-proof so I don't want to fiddle with it, but I was thinking of upgrading the clutching. My plan is for a new variable helix and spings. I want to try and get it to launch at 5800rpm or so. I am open to any other ideas you guys might have.
  15. This is your best bet. Just click the area that you want to see. http://coastwatch.glerl.noaa.gov/modis/region_map.html
  16. Welcome to the board...always good to have some more Mike's around!
  17. If the guys are right and this boat has sunk at some point it will never be the same no matter how much they try and dress it up. Trust me, I've been there!!
  18. almost forgot...Sunset point has been productive for me in the past as well. Has a parking lot and boat launch right there so you don't have to haul things up the rocks! Just set up near the other huts and you should be good to go.
  19. I have fished it a couple of times while staying at Ravenscroft lodge. Never really got into much fish but had a great time none the less.
  20. Welcome Arty, There are plenty of accessable spots within walking distance of shore. The South Shore is generaly the "hotspot" for most of the winter. All kinds of underwater humps and reefs. You can park on the ice off Waltonian dr. PM me for more specific directions
  21. You won't really need it. Like Chancho said, all your transportation is provided. Plus Lake Nipissing can get some pretty good snow drifts, I had to pull a couple of bikes out last year.
  22. Uni- Uni, I use it all the time, even for saltwater fishing. Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy to tie.
  23. I had a one a while back and by while I mean about 10 years. They are a good rod, but I would put the money towards something newer.
  24. I have a humminbird 757c that I use for both summer and winter fishing. I had to purchase the portable kit seperatly though. It works very well, I could actually see my jig 35ft down.
  25. I have never stayed at the waltonian as I have a cottage just down the street, but I am over there every so often. The cottages are what you would expect from a fishing lodge, nothing fancy but everything you need is there. I actually have one of their old ice huts as well. The propane heat is wonderful (no smoke) and there is tons of room to move around. You are very close to the snowmobile trails, and North Bay is a short 25min drive. Johnny does a great job and I would recomend them for sure.
