The flies are bad in Parry Sound. I know that for a fact. This is the time when I actually reverse my days up there. My days become my nights, and my nights become my days. I have 3000 pounds to unload from a trailer, outboard to put back together, casting deck to reinstall, all of the this work will be stealth at night. Depends on how bad they are of course, but if it's unbearable, it's a good idea if you can schedule it. It's just a lot more comfortable if you can adjust for time. Not for everyone, I know ... but for a "weekend warrior" ... well.

Ugg - you had to say the "B" word ...didn't you! And sourced from Parry Sound ... g-r-e-a-t. I was up last weekend and there were a couple around already at that time, the odd one or two. Come next weekend I'm wearing my space suit with an O2 tank and all. Houston ... we've got a problem

Off to a great start Simon and family! Isn't it great when it's just beginning, and that you know you have the entire season ahead of you! Gotta love it

List too big to mention, but if all of the obvious seem fine, and your not lighting up on either coil, perhaps check the power pack. My 2 cents worth. Good luck with the solution

Keep in mind that reclaimed wood are in high demand these days ... driven by green initiatives i'm sure. well, it looks cool depending on the applications. Just a thought.

Great collection of pictures to a fantastic trip. Well done. Sweetness on the grill ... mmmm. Thanks for sharing the fun

... shouldn't you be out fishing? Sure, the flies are terrifying, but at least we have the lake to ourselves! I have yet to have a black fly conquer my weekend, but you are right, it is quite the scene on a Saturday morning when the thousands of vehicles evacuate the north back to the cities. It's like rush hour. I can say that Gibson River is typically higher than usual during the long weekend. I'm uncertain as to the specifics though. This is just my observation traveling frequently over that water on the 400. Enjoy the long weekend. It will be a blast, with or without the flies (depending on how thick your skin is!). If the river is too high, perhaps just take the road directly to the lake.

Is this a picture of your flat tire with a silver nail in it, or a fish?

Very sad indeed. My condolences to the family and everyone that surrounds him. I loved his post about his childhood fishing experiences. He was very talented in many ways. There is a shiny DT1 for him to ride now.

Wow, I haven't seen this in along time. I love this feature. I will admit, this guy has inspired me in such a positive way, for sure. I have dreamed of setting up a permanent post in the Rockies, but it's more of a pipe dream than anything else. What matters to me is that I would like to think that I can handle it. Thinking back to the fundamentals, the simplicity of how life should be lived. Our roots have been planted strong to the ground for that reason, but we have lost the value of how great life can be. We end up cutting ourselves free from our roots and float aimlessly away in in a direction that has no meaning. Some people can't even handle a day out in the wilderness, let alone survive a night with the amenities and conveniences that some parks will offer, like electricity and bathrooms. We can all learn from Dick. I know I have from him and others like him. Thanks for sharing this.

Heading to Ahmic and Cecebe lakes Early June
discophish replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
I have the copy at the cottage. Great read and very informative about Ahmic. The article about the black bear is an interesting read. One bear had dragged two kids from their tent in Algonquin and ended up as dinner. Love the area. All the luck to you on your trip to Ahmic. It will be a blast, with or without the fish -
Whoa!!! This is pretty freaky man!!!

<sigh> this is all so horrible. I can't imagine the struggle over there. It can't be genuinely felt unless you are actually there. -
need help !!!! regarding a co officer

Yes, I do agree here. It's like going to a vegan site and asking "where's the beef?" .... It's more of a crime to bring this up, over the actual crime that was originally committed. It's easy to pay a fine with cash, but sometimes more difficult to pay for a fractured dignity. So it ain't so bad. At least you have learned something. It's only a couple hundred, and that money goes back into the program ... well ... it's supposed to -
There was 20" of ice (clear + a few inches of white) in the area where we were fishing last weekend. Temps are staying cold for Parry Sound, so I will hopefully be heading up myself this weekend again. Have a good one!

A Weekend at Lake Joseph - Gondor Hall
discophish replied to Homer Is King's topic in General Discussion
Ah, okay. We were up north more. We passed a group of three that looked very familiar to your shot. You are right about the gold rush. It definitely attracts some people in once the glory hole is discovered. The north end is great for both seasons. -

Hey wait a sec. I'm sure that we saw you out there. Was it your group that we walked past in the distance, and bee-lined to the tip of the shoal? Myself and my girlfriend were out there sitting on the blue buckets. Nice fish! -

Congrats to your first Laker! Now that you have had the opportunity, your quest for Lakers will not end here I'm sure. I was also fishing the north end this past weekend on the Saturday. We covered a large area, and moved around frequently, working all depths and structure from 110 fow to 45 fow as you did. We know the area well and always have great success both in the hard and soft water seasons. Saturday was a different day, you are right about that. We had, the camera and vex down, chummed, did the fish dance, waited ... nothing. After 10 hours, we packed it up. After reading your post, we should have gone on the Sunday instead! Note to self, fish the bubblers and tighten up belt on floater suit when bite is slow. Note to self again, fish the opposite day you plan to fish Great report! Your perseverance paid off! Next time, perhaps stick around a little longer to validate them fish tales! Hehe. -
1) "Just back from Dick's" 2) then a little "Pump priming" 3) then some "Lipless rattle" 4) then "Went to the ol' carpin' hole" 5) then some "Marine glue" 6) then "Boat scum removal" 7) ... "One Heck of a Day" Hmm. That's a little odd.

Man charged after defending his home!
discophish replied to Headhunter's topic in General Discussion
For all we know, Mr Thompson is the bad guy. He could have uttered threats to kill if anyone came to his house with a flaming poop bag to his door step. Knowing that he's a firearms instructor, what better opportunity to flush out the grouse and to provoke the firing. Sounds like a good plan to me. Off to jail. Who knows. The entire incident may have been staged knowing that the cameras were there while it contributed to his own conviction. Are these guys blind? But yeah, reach for the bug spray or grab the bazooka. Hmmm. I'm grabbing the bazooka and firing. -
It's not going to be pretty, that's for sure. It would be nice to know how the lake is. Depending on the state of where I will be, I may head over for a half day. But even 2 weeks ago it was a slush bath where I was, especially in the bays where the snow gets the most drift. 2 days of rain, up to 15mm over that period. Ugg. I am going to wait until Saturday and give it a little time to tighten up. All we can do is get up there and deal with it when the time comes. Hopefully it's good for all of us. Good luck out there!

You are right. Seems to be lots of weed around. And what about the people on snow? So many these days. Everywhere you look people are on snow. No wonder people are having a tough time catching fish. hehe

Getting Married....round 2... This time in Space
discophish replied to jedimaster's topic in General Discussion
Cool concept. Good luck to you and congratulations to your engagement! Awesome that you will donate some of the funds to charity. That's a really good idea. Wouldn't it be neat to conceive a child in space, and to give birth to a green baby with antennas 11 months later? How cool would that be?!!! -
This reminds me ... There was a cargo train derailment up north by the cottage many years back. It was a boat ride and hike in. No road access. The news did not leak to the media because they wanted to secure the location and protect against looting, amongst other things. Crews were coming to the marina and water taxied to the site. It was easier for them to bury the cargo in the bush. Yup, all destroyed and under a mound now. Apparently people still had the opportunity to loot the cargo from every direction before it was covered. Where they came from is beyond me. Strange how the wind can carry the news.
-
Congrats! Really nice laker, impressive colour. Looks like a really good time out there with the boys. Great job handling the technical difficulties. I can't wait until next weekend to do the same.

After my stator/regulator issues on the ski-doo...
discophish replied to a topic in General Discussion
They have boots at Canadian tire in the rain suit isle for 9.99? Not sure if this helps you out any! It may keep the carbs dry, and insulated. Just trying to make it better. Sorry about the luck these days. 1200 miles? Geez.
