  1. Musky Hunter and Esox Angler for the musky articles. And, of course, to see what everyone is catching.
  2. Welcome aboard Windsor. It was well over a year from the time I joined the board until I met my first OFC'r. Of course, from being way down here ... it's no surprise. I did what I could to make the Lakair GTG last year and met a lot of great folks. Looking forward to a repeat this June and hopefully meet a couple new faces. It is a great board and you'll know why once you start meeting and talking with the folks first hand.
  3. There's enough of us dog lovers here ... maybe we should have our own Lakair Dog show.
  4. Well reefrunner ... you have taken that very first an most important step. NO - not admitting your problem. BUT - that you joined OFC. Welcome aboard.
  5. My grandfather really enjoyed his fishing and made many trips north of the border. Then when dad was old enough, he too got into the act, and now it's my turn. I still enjoy fishing with Dad when I can. He is still able to make the occassional trip north and we try to meet up with them for a week. Cliff ... very nice testiment to your father. I enjoyed your post.
  6. I was thinking the very same thing about the HP of the engine and the size of the boat. The very first boat I bought was a 16' and came with a 25 - which we immediately upgraded to a 40. I wanted more than 40, but finances would not permit it. Even with two people in the boat and a full tank - it took a while to get up on plane. I really was just never satisfied with the 40. We upgraded to a 17' WT and a 90 HP two stroke. I'm kinda regretting not spending the extra cash and upgrade to the 4 stoke. I guess we're never satisfied. It may indeed be a good deal, but like Lew says, make sure you get what you really want the first time. Otherwise, you'll end up regretting something and may end up costing you more in the long run. Best of luck to ya and I'm sure you'll get a lot of comments from the other folks.
  7. Last year fishing the Rideau for bass, we arrived on Saturday. From Saturday through Thursday, we had constant warm weather. During those days, my wife and I were not catching many bass - while in past years we always did very well and even some multi-pounders. That Thursday I was out by myself and could see a front moving in - big black clouds and all coming over the horizon. I'd say about 1/2 hour before I had to leave the water, the fishing turned hot. Within a very short time, I had caught a number of bass and two approaching 4 pounds. Just like the switch turned on. The time just ahead of the front was the best fishing all week. Similar thing last September on the French. Bluebird skies for almost two weeks straight and no fronts or anything to change the weather pattern. Fishing was very trough for me and for the others in the camp. Toward the end of the second week, I learned of a front that was due in mid morning. We would out before day break and raised a couple nice musky. Although we didn't get either one, we saw more fish action just ahead of the front that we had for almost two weeks. (save the hammer-handles of course). Of course, the weather forced us off the water again. When I know of a front coming through - I like to be out there on my favorite spots.
  8. Aint nothing gonna rattle our DAWG !!! Good to hear you're OK. Think about you often when I hear of twisters down your way.
  9. You got it Mike !!
  10. Very admiral Big Cliff on your Christmas giving. The world needs a lot more like you and I'll bet you get back far more than you give.
  11. That kinda thing happens everywhere. Seen it many times myself. Not only from big rigs, but cars, SUV's, pickups ... you name it. I guess as long as the windows are somewhat clear ... that's good enough. We got hit with a piece of ice from another car just this past Saturday ... fortunately, no damage. Hit right on the windshield in front of my wife.
  12. Ahhhhh. Much better now. Thanks HHM
  13. I've been using them a little more the past couple years - although not a confidence bait for me just yet. Couple years ago, my wife and I were fishing the shore just out from Wolseley Lodge. My wife wanted to try one and her fist cast into the shore-line and something of very nice size took a strike at the bait. The lure had just hit the water and she just started her first jerk when there was a big commotion. Unfortunately, we did not see what it was. Tried a couple throw-backs and later that evening, but nothing. I've also heard of others "Dead Sticking". Basically throwing the bait out and giving it a jerk. Then, let it sit a couple minutes or so, and just repeat. I tried it a few times, but no action. I dunno ... not sure I have the patience to throw my lure out there and just let it sit. I could be missing something that could be very productive. I recall talking to Kevin (from Lakair) this past September and he was having some good luck on the Suicks also pounding the shore lines. I'd be interested in how you can take an unweighted Suick and add some weight to it. Kinda wish now, after reading this thread, that I had a weighted version.
  14. I'll go for the underdog ... Giants.
  15. I agree with you Cliff. My first thought as well with a nice job of handling the fish. Cool vid Snag ... thanks for posting.
  16. Same as Wayne for me. Gore-tex suit from BPS.
  17. My uncle works for the US postal service and just slipped on some black ice about 1 week ago. Result: Two broken ribs, punctured lung, and a broken collar bone. He was is the hospital a couple days, until his lung healed up. Good news is that there is no need for surgery to correct the breaks. Now just sit back and wait for everything to heal up again.
  18. You got it ... raining here now, but falling temps and high winds tomorrow.
  19. We had a thin layer of ice on the walks down here too. Nice and click. Got out there early and threw some salt down before the wife came out. It didn't last long ... rain showers now. Calling for falling temps overnight and high winds tomorrow. About 38F on the way home from work a little while ago.
