  1. Since it was only my second time up I can't speak for the deeper each year. Stayed at Merland's and did see fish coming in. A couple 11 pounders, some smaller fish too in the 3-6 pound range but from what i gathered talking to some folks around the fish hut, everyone was working for them and not getting them in big numbers...maybe one fish per person if lucky.
  2. Hey all, been awhile but thought i would report on a couple days fishing at BoQ. Dad picked me up at 6:00 on the 23rd and we headed up...on the water by about 9:30. Started off trolling around the far side of the fairy. Like many others, marked a lot of fish but nothing...using variety of crank bait with and without dipsys and planers and at anywhere from 100ft to 300ft behind the boat. By about 2:00 a little frustrated so decided to try some jigging in about 20 fow near the shore. managed to land about 12 perch for snack later on but no walleye- figured we might hook at least a little guy there?!? After that headed back to the other side of the fairy and trolled until dark. Off the water just after 7:00 NO WALLEYE but beer time.... Next day, up a little late after having too many beers but on the water before 9:00... Decided to head out closer toward Lake Ontario after hearing of some luck out there. So started trolling around the far side of the fairy to out past the lighthouse. Fast forward until about 1:00 and I decide to try a small orange and copper spoon with a dipsy as we have tried everything in the book and starting a new troll.....5 minutes later and my rod is bent in half...fish on!!!! managed to land my PB walleye a nice 30" x 16.5" 10 pounder...caught about 35 feet down in 110 fow sorry for the poor quality of pic but of course my camera was dead so had to use my phone. We did the same troll a couple of times more and we had another on but lost it when the dipsy wouldn't pop (at least that is what i will blame anyway). other than a small silver bass that was it for the day. Other than another little silver bass that was it. Can't complain though cause we missed missed the rain and had pretty good weather otherwise. cheers Greg
  3. frogs are a great bait but haven't used em in a few years. leaches can be just as good and are portable and easy to keep. Worst part about frogs was getting a hold of em out of the bucket.
  4. great report with vids and pics, thanks for taking the time to share. You are lucky to have that experience up there. Greg
  5. haven't been myself but based on everything I have heard it sounds great. The Fishn'Canada guys fish there in early june on one of their shows a couple weeks back. They had the worst mayfly hatch ever and sunny 95degree weather but still did very well in terms of numbers of walleye. My dad fished there last september and did really well. Nothing very large but he did get a lot of fish and it is really nice. We are thinking of going next spring. The drive in to the lake is a bit rough though, about 1 hr on a poorly maintained dirt road so be ready for that.
  6. Has anyone seen the conditions up close….I'm looking over the harbour from downtown and looks pretty frozen out there except for a path for the ferry.
  7. Actually, when I did the test, the instructor said he had a couple who had been operating their 60 ft. yacht for years but needed the license to operate the dingy....that is government for you.
  8. have to agree with that, good point.
  9. I think it was mainly put in place to put some sort of control on the sea-doos and from my (limited) experience there has been less sea-doo traffic since it was introduced...so that might be worth the $65 right there.
  10. thanks for the heads up. I check every once in awhile cause it was free for about 6 months last year. I would subscribe but get tired of the saltwater fishing and european carp tournaments.
  11. Beauty perch. Did you measure the girth of that one on the bottom? Looks like a severly overinflated football, wow.
  12. I do agree that mishandling them (such as letting musky flop around in the boat and lose their slimy coating) could injure them and reduce the chance of survival significantly but I really have to disqualify these arguments when they have such statements as: I find this very hard to believe since fish eat other fish and crayfish which have sharp fins, shells, etc...so one would assume the mouth could handle a hook. Also, I am sure many of us who have fished pike lakes have caught several fish with nice chunks taken out of their bellies but have survived just fine.
