  1. I'm right handed. Cast with my right and reel with the left. No changing of hands. My wife is also right handed but she casts with the right, then changes hands to reel with her right. Tried to get her to switch so that she doesn't have to keep changing hands, but that didn't go very well.
  2. That truely is one awsome report and looks like a fantastic trip. May be a bit to warm for comfort in a couple of those shots.
  3. Fishinonthe brain .... I'll be waiting for the report. 6 1/2 months ... that's a heck of lot better than my 9 MONTHS !!! I just love the French River area and hope to keep going back as often as I can and for as long as I can. The best of luck to ya !
  4. Boy you've got it bad Ron ... congratulations. Great intro - wish all the newcomers would follow suit. Welcome aboard and looking forward to the reports.
  5. Me too ... can't wait for the first issue to arrive.
  6. I've fished out of Wolseley Bay the past three years and I'm booked there again the last Week in September this year. The main channel from Wolseley Lodge our to Rainy Island is pretty clear sailing as long as you stay a little way off shore. A few shoals along the left-hand side as your coming out, but the rocks on the outside part of the shoal have been out of the water more than enough to see where things are. Other than that, I've not had any problems or worries heading towards Rainy Is. Coming out, you can swing down the North Channel, but I've had no luck at all down there, other than the smaller pike here and there. Go clear to the end, where the rapids are, and I've heard of a few nice skis taken there. I've fished all around Crane's, including a large bay that's down along thje left-hand side of the lodge. No luck down there, but the few times I've been there, it was so dang windy, I could hold a spot for long. Looks like some potential structure, so I'll be back again. A lot of guys fish out around 5 finger rapids, which is on your map. The first year at Wolseley,. someone pulled a 50+ somewhere in that area. Can't give you any specifics, as I have not yet fished that area. I do plan to hit it pretty good this year. Lots of good structure around and out from Wolseley and the potential is certainly there for a trophy size fish. Good luck and let me know how you make out in June. I wanted to switch from September to JUne for some longer days, but the better half can't tolerate the black flies. I can try to give you a little more info if you wish. Wanted to get a quick post out before heading off to bed. Best of luck to ya !
  7. Yeah ... Don't think many were expecting a blowout by Florida State. Now they have National Titles in basketball and football.
  8. I'm interested as well ... for my first time. But as ccmtcanada, I'd be looking to share expenses on a place to stay and a boat ... even a rental with someone. Sleep ? I have a cap on my truck and a sleeping bag in the back may work out. Looks like I have the wife's permission to make the trip to be there for a few days. How easy would something like this be to arrange ?
  9. I have this site as one of my favorites as well. http://www.fishingontario.com/nipissing.html
  10. Nope. Don't really care if I catch anything or not. If I do ... great. If I don't, I spend some time that evening trying to figure out 'why not'; then give it another try the next day. I don't let getting skunked ruin my time in the out of doors. I just enjoy being out there. We've been to this one camp on the Lower French three years running now, and after three 'one-week-long' trips, my better half has yet to catch a fish. Three trips, three weeks total - no fish of any kind. BUT - we're heading back there again this September. She's a real trooper and doesn't give up. Persistance and self evaluation will eventually pay off. I started fishing for musky a few years ago, so I am trying to learn as I go - on my own. Needless to say, I only have one to this point. Looking forward to the day when I have the opportunity to fish with an 'experienced' musky fisher-person to give me some pointers ... or a swift kick if need be. Maybe someday. I used a guide once, but it was someone who does not really target muskies, so I didn't get a lot out of that trip ... other than a couple locations to try.
  11. Hey .. at least you're getting out there. One of these trips, you'll get one or two or three. Nice report anywho.
  12. I'm sure the hard-water folks are drooling with envy. Great report an pics.
  13. Weclome back .... looking forward to the reports and pics
  14. Awe come on ... it's not that many. Heck - It looks like there is room on there for a few more. Can't let that empty space go to waste !!!! I was actually going through mine this morning and making a list of what I need for the coming season. Couple replacements and maybe something new.
  15. 60 here in central PA today. I went outside early this am in a T-shirt and was comfortable. Pretty cool the furnace ain't running much now. Maybe winter will start in late January or February and run through April ... just off a little this year.
  16. A 'put up' job eh ? But the problem is ... it's true.
  17. Now that is what I call a report !! Great fishing through the seasons, lots of time on the water, familty along. Sounds like a great year and an even better one yet to come.
  18. I would think ..... we already knew that. That's a testiment to the administrators of this site and to all the members. Glad I'm a part of it.
  19. Good thing you went along to take the pics for us. Nice one.
  20. Getting close to talking the wife into letting me come up for a few days or so. Never been there to stay, but while we were on the French River last year, we made a run up around Lakair and had a look around. Looks like a really nice place and the owners very friendly and helpful. I'd be looking to share a place to sleep and a boat with some one. Still working on it ... I'd love to met some of the OFC'rs.
  21. Interesting, you're a little ahead of me. I just bought the H2O Mono unit and MapCreate Canadian Topo series. I too have been able to create maps and load them on to the hand-held. Have not tried going from the unit back to the PC. Assuming I understand how it is 'supposed' to work, I gave it a try. That is, I manually entered a way point on my hand-held - just to see if I could do it. These are the steps I went through. Please forgive me if you have already done this. Writing this helps me to understand the process as well. When you enter the way-points, ICONS, etc. on the hand-held, you have to SAVE them onto the SD card. MENU + MENU + SYSTEM SET-UP + TRANSFER MY DATA ... then SAVE. This will take you to a screen that has FILE NAME highlighted - with a default data file name called DATA. If you hit ENTER, it will highlight the default file name and you can change it. Then, use the arrows and go down to SAVE - and hit ENTER. This should save your data onto the SD card and you should also get a confirmation message. This worked for me. Now, I removed the SD card from the unit and placed it into the card reader. Just to see if my file was there, I went into EXPLORER. I am running windows XP Right click on the START button at the bottom left of your PC screen. Click on EXPLORE This should give you a list of the directories on your PC. Find the one for the card reader - mine is SD(E). Click on that and the files on the card should then show on the right-hand side of the screen. The test data file I created is shown. So, I did get a file saved onto the SD. The next step is to copy the file from the SD onto your computer and there are a couple ways of doing this. Open MapCreate on your computer. Click on FILE - then OPEN GPS DATA FILE. It should come up and default to the GPS DATA file of MAPCREATE. (on your hard-drive). Use the drop down menu and click on the card reader drive. This will show you the GPS data files on the SD. My Test file is there. Click on the file name and click on open. This opened up my map, the data file, and my waypoint shows. Now, you are still looking at the GPS data file from the SD card. Click on FILE. Click on SAVE - then select GPS DATA FILE AS Use the drop-down to locate the proper file into which to save the file on your computer. For me it was . C:\PROGRAM FILES\LEI\MAPCREATECANADATOPO6.3\MY GPS DATA Then hit SAVE. It should save the file to your PC. Just to see if it worked, I got clear out of MapCreate and started it up again. With my map displayed, I clicked on OPEN GPS DATA FILE, opened my data file, and my waypoint showed up. I hope this helps as I'm sure there are other ways of doing this.
  22. I hear ya Pam. I think one of the grand kids brought it to our home, bundled up in one of the packages. MY wife has been down with it and a strep throat for a week now and my step son is down with it too. Lots of people off sick from the office ... of and on for over a month now. Seems to be a bit worse around here than in past years. I'm like you ... I hope I don't get it. I'll pledge not to get it if you do the same.
  23. Used to spend the Christmas holiday in the Orlando area for many a year. I was a lot younger then, so I didn't get out fishing much. My grandfather had a house along East Tohopakaliga (sp) in St. Cloud (just south of Orlando). I spent quite a few evening s taking the bike and hitting the shore lines and docs. Don't remember catching much though. I miss those days. Spent a couple New Year's Eves at Disney World, but it was not the specticle then as it is now. Sounds like you had a great time.
  24. Always good to take a break from vacation to do a little fishing. Pretty cool putting in the satellite view and adding the pics. Great report.
  25. Finally hard water ..... for someone anyway. I'll bet they were tasty after being out day. Nice pics !
