  1. Thanks for your help guys - I am really leaning towards the humminbird - I take the unit off my boat between trips - and I like the idea of the quick disconnect - with the Lowrance I had to wiggle off the cables on the back and thats what happened with my last one - I broke off some pins in the unit. 2. Hi Guys Thinking about getting a new fish finder – I have always been a Lowrance guy – but I am looking at other brands (Garmin and Humminbird). I have a budget of about $250-$300 Looking for any advice for recommendations for these units. Lowrance – Elite 5x Garmin – Echo 500 c Humminbird – 346 Ci DI Is the down imagining, dual beam or colour worth the extra price? I mostly jig fish for walleye. Thanks for your help Smitty
  3. The funniest thing I ever saw when I lived in TO about 10 yrs ago I was following a car that ran through a light that was changing red – there was another guy at the intersection going the other way that was trying to make a left turn – the guy basically cut him off. So the guy that was cut off does a U turn and chases down the other guy – I caught up to them a few lights down the road – the guy that had been cut off gets out of his truck and goes to confront the guy – well the guy jumped out of his car and he punches the guy right in the face – dropped the pour guy to his knees – gets back in his car and goes through the green light….I was crying I was laughing so hard, the guy finally picked himself off the ground and gets in his truck and drives away – I had to pull over I was laughing so hard. I really don't miss driving in TO.
  4. Hi Guys I recently noticed I had a leak in my boat after some detective work I found it was missing a rivet so my question to you is - how do I fix it?? I have a side console Princecraft and the missing rivet is under the livewell area - I really don't want to rip up the boat. I have been told use a closed end rivet - I believe I have cherry rivets are these the same?? What is the difference between cherry and closed end? Another option I am told is try the epoxy steel stick - it is the putty that hardens like steel - just fill it in and smooth it out. Any opinions or help is appreciated. Thanks Smitty
  5. Hey Guys Here are a few I have made over the years....
  6. Hi Guys I am hoping someone can answer this question regarding the NHL centre ice package. I am a Leaf fan living in Ottawa - so I ordered this package last night - I am wondering about tonight's game in Ottawa - will it be shown on centre ice or will there be a black out here? I don't have sportsnet - which I believe it is shown on - anyone know if this will be shown or will I be listening the old fashion way on the radio? Thanks Smitty
  7. Well it sounds like Sirius is the one to go with - ok next question - where do I get the best deal - I have been looking at Satellite Radio Source.com - there prices seem good...any others? I am in the Ottawa area. thanks Smitty
  8. Hey Guys I do a lot of travelling to and from work so I am thinking about getting satellite radio - I would like to get something I can use in the house as well as my boat when I go fishing...so which one do I choose? I have heard XM and Sirus have actually merged - but they still offer the 2 different models. Anyone have experience with either? Any help would be appreciated. thanks
  9. Have a look at this product at Cabelas... Boat Buckle® RodBunk Deluxe Rod Carrier It sounds like it would fit in your mini van... Good luck Smitty
  10. Thanks for all the input guys - I am going to see an advisor today. Smitty
  11. Hi Guys I recently came into some $ when my grandfather died - I now have 40K to invest - I don't have a mortgage - paid that off last year. I currently have the $ in the bank - they want me to invest it into a 3.85% 3 year GIC - I think that is really low - I am looking to get a good return without a lot of risk - I would like to keep the principal safe. Any suggestions? I know someone is going to suggest giving it to them...but serious help would be appreciated. thanks Smitty
  12. Hey Guys Just wondering if anyone here has been to this place - I have a cottage booked for my anniversary in Oct - I hope to get some fishing in - it is on Purdy lake? Any info or tips would be appreciated. thanks Smitty
  13. Hey Guys My buddies wife gave me a call tonight - she wants to get him a fish finder for his b-day - and asked me for a recommendation - she said it does not have to be colour - since he is colour blind - price range is about $150-$200. I really like the customer service with Lowrance...but I would like some suggestions - we usually fish small lakes and rivers - some trolling - I know he mentioned he wanted something that shows baitfish with maybe temp and speed. Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks Smitty
  14. Hey Guys On my way to work today - my 2001 Jimmy started to act funny - I had the cruise control on and all of a sudden the truck shifted in 4x4 - I did not feel the chug like I usually would when it shifts into 4x4 - but the lights on the dash where flashing that it was in 4x4 - so I hit the 2wd button - it went back into 2 but only for about 1km...then switched back into 4x4. I pulled into a gas station - had a look under the hood (not sure what I was looking for??). When I started the truck again it was in 4x4 again..I put the truck in neutral and tried to shift into 2wd - but it automatically switched back into 4wd...so I proceed on to work about another 2km - got into the parking lot at work and it went into 4 low...with the chug that is normal...so I crawled into a parking spot and switched it into 2wd and turned it off...any ideas on what the problem might be? I have been reading on the internet that it could be the transfer case is wound up and I need to drive a few 100 ft in reverse to fix this - anyone ever heard of that? Any help would be appreciated. thanks Smitty
