  1. Double nail knot will solve your problems... Mike P introduced me to the Tiefast tool a number of years ago and I use it for everything. Just did a demonstration knot for a friend using 30lb braid to 130lb Yozuri Fluoro... you'll slice through a glove before that knot will break. The only issue I've had with this knot is tying flea-flicker line to braid backing. The knot works but the flat profile of the FF doesn't look nice! Also perfect for snelling hooks!
  2. Have to ask... are you sure you're connections are correct and you're not running 12v instead of 24?
  3. If you're going to add to the arsenal, I strongly advise a line counter reel for trolling. This will help you nail down running depth and reproduce the set up. For example; you nail a 'ski 40' back 35' out on the board and 3.8 mph, it would be nice to be able to put the lure right back where it was. My preference is the Shimano Tekota 600LC. Lots of guys run Okuma Convector 30 with great results at 60% of the Tekota cost. The sacrifice with the Okuma is that it's a little bulkier and not as smooth as the Tekota. Durable, good drag, good clicker; very reliable just a little less sexy lol Edit to add... All my line counter setups perform dual duty as Salmon setups... just in case you get the itch!
  4. The 400 is a good reel. The 400B is 5:1 and has a bearing upgrade. They both sell well used and for similar money for comparable condition. Stay away from the S and BSV, no level wind. The TE is a zuped up B and the D is the newest offering. Mixed reviews on that one.
  5. That's probably a fine reel but the big benefit of the Calcutta 400 and 700 is the clicker for trolling. If you're operating the boat, the clicker is nice to have when you can't keep an eye on the rod at all times. It's also a great feature when your buddy is nodding off and you give a few quick pulls and watch him jump.
  6. Calcutta 400B or 400TE is the way to go for dual duty. You're welcome to try mine.
  7. Define "bent". Some axles have camber arc built into them. This axle is normal...
  8. Im usually off Sat, Sun & Mon. Get in touch! ....going to bed now. If anyone wants in, I wont be able to confirm until 5ish
  9. I have all the gear for salmon & muskie. I would consider bass and walleye too.
  10. Wouldn't it be easier to have Brian change his name to Lund Bl...... Nevermind. I couldn't let that one pass.
  11. I shudder to think what I've got invested in post-purchase accessories! It's very easy to rack up 10k in accessories. Just be glad you're not paying the dealer inflated prices + labour and financing them! Just do it a little at a time and you won't bleed to death. Looking good!
  12. The ETEC can be setup to run XD100 or XD50 oil at the dealer. 100 and 50 refers to the mix ratio with 100 being full synthetic at $50/jug. Have your co-worker do a little research into which setup he wants to run. I was just told by a performance shop that the 50:1 ratio is better for the motor as the 100:1 seems to be a little lean even for full synth. Some of the tourny guys even run the 50:1 setup with XD100 for foolproof protection. That could get a little pricey though. Whatever he decides, tell him to ask for an extra jug! It wouldn't hurt to ask for a spare prop too.
  13. That's great, Shawn! And a nice shirt too!!!!
  14. That's hilarious what you did with his mustache!!!
  15. Just saw a report on Facebook from one the OFCer's... kept a 3/4 limit and threw back double that (hundreds). Some tanks in there too. I'm sure he'll chime in when he's finished cleaning.... maybe Sunday? lol
  16. Mount a 24 flush to the corner cap. Mount your cleat on an adapter plate and slide it in first to the rear, then slide your Salty's in. Another option is to raise the track using 1/4" aluminium plate so accessories will slide in from the rear above the corner cap.
  17. Minimum 17" track. Keep in mind the S10 Salty brackets or the Bert's adapter plates needed for S17 Salty's will bring the rod inwards from the end of the tracks. A 12" track may only yield a 6" gap between rods. Too tight for my liking. 12" tracks use 4 bolts, 17" uses 6 bolts for mounting. I'd feel better with 6 bolts to distribute the stress on the gunwales over 4.
  18. The term "banger" is usually used to describe a 4 cylinder engine and I think you are confusing it with 2 or 4 wheel drive. We'll cut you some slack on the "torquey 302" comment because if you came from a "4 banger", it would seem pretty "torquey". Don't sweat the rear end, just get it serviced and drive it. There's a million of them out there still operating fine probably without any maintenance! Got any pictures of the new ride?
  19. Well said landry. In my opinion, you have to ask yourself what is the task worth? It's asking a lot to pay someone to organize a warehouse more than you would pay a soldier. It's hard to comprehend a cashier making more than a cop in some US cities. It's absurd to imagine a parking lot attendant making more than an EMT On the flipside... Is a CEO really worth $20-$30 mil + bonuses? Should an NHL player make more in 80 games than some people make in an entire lifetime? Should an on-air host reading from a teleprompter truly earn a better living than all the unpaid interns and paid staff combined that are providing the content? The answer is always yes, provided you're the one on the high end of the equation. I live fairly comfortably but I could probably list 50 occupations that deserve to earn more than I do.We should keep this in mind when having a debate over wages. Food for thought... the leading cause of a higher cost of living is cost of living increases.
  20. Well done Roger. We need to hookup soon!
  21. I found it so much easier to carry waterproof matches in my pack than a 53" Sony.
  22. Great post Rick and 'gratz on the PB bass G! Let's work on your PB muskie now!
  23. Rolly, the P+ would really excel on your waters. There's a ton of humps on the east shore that show up in 3D mode that you won't see otherwise. The Navionics contour lines are close but the 3D mode provides additional shading that reveal. Let's hookup sometime and you can see for yourself.
