  1. Tough fishing this weekend and the rain hasn't helped. We've caught more walleye than pike and no 'skies. You're not alone. Heading out again now for walters
  2. It's much more expensive and won't be lighter than marine plywood. I used 3/16" plate and 1/4" angle for support. I just happen to be fishing with the guy that bought my old boat this weekend and the vinyl clad aluminium is 100% while the 3/4" marine plywood for the casting deck is already deteriorating under the seat post mount after 6 years. If you plan on keeping the boat, go for it. Be prepared to support the plate because is will flex underfoot without adequate support.
  3. I have a 200 TE DC, one of my favourites. I probably wouldn't use a 100 too often but it would be nice to have for those feather-weight jigs. I think you'll enjoy it. Just for opinion's sake...I'd do the 201B + $100 for that reel without hesitation.
  4. I think you'll like my map chip; I'll be checking in there on the 30th
  5. I have the HDS 7 and HDS 8 GENII units with LSS2 The extra coin for the 8 is worth it, especially if you're going to use structure scan. The extra display size allows you to run a 4 pane window (sonar / GPS / sidescan / downscan). Another VERY nice feature of the HDS8 is the programmable preset buttons along the bottom of the screen. I really miss this on the 7. It seems to me that the 8 boots quicker and menus / maps load quicker than the 7; perhaps a faster processor? The 8 also has duel SD card slots. The HDS 7 is a very capable unit and is more than adequate and probably as close to a direct replacement for your LCX27 (at a lot less money than I'm sure you paid for it). I just thought I'd pass on the perks of the 8 in case you were considering it. It's far more than just an extra inch of display for your money. The Elite 7 is also a nice unit but as mentioned, it is not networkable. The Elite series uses Micro-SD cards so your LCX chips won't work. The Elite 7 also comes optional with HDI (downscan) but structurescan is not available. The HDI unit will display sonar / gps / downscan simultaneously thanks to its widescreen format. The widesceen format also fits well under smaller windshields. If you're replacing an LCX27 this isn't a big concern for you. Infact your LCX takes up more space than the HDS8! I would highly recommend Angling Outfitters in Woodstock for your purchase. After exchange/state tax/hst, you'll probably come away cheaper. He will set it up for you, install updates whenever you drop in and if you EVER have a problem, he is the guy you want in your corner. Tell him about your LCX, he might know whats wrong with it and maybe even take it in on trade.
  6. Such a shame but not unusual for comedians/performers. A cruel irony that their despair drives them to bring so much happiness to others and yet it is not enough to bring happiness to themselves.
  7. Wow, I'm not used to seeing Roy's boat in the water!! Thx for the report and photos!
  8. Add another 325 lts for the boat gas + a $50 jug of synthetic 2-stoke oil LOL!!! No complaints though, had a blast!
  9. London - Nipigon - London.......2012 Dodge Ram 5.7 fully loaded with 4 guys and food for 7 days....Towing Starcraft Fishmaster 196 lightly loaded and about 30gal fuel on board to Nipigon and empty tank back
  10. Just got back from Nipigon yesterday, lots of healthy weeds...enough to choke down my 150! Heading to the West Arm in a few weeks and hope the weed growth recovers. Thanks for the report Rich and Patsy; we'll be staying at Mashkinonje for the first time too. It's a long haul to the familiar fishing grounds when we would stay at Lakair but we had some good luck around Musky Island last year so I am looking forward to exploring! Patsy, great walleye you have there!
  11. Wow, impressive. My 2012 5.7 Ram Sport is a consistent 19.8-20.1 L/100 towing the boat and that's obnoxious. I wouldn't have bought it knowing that. Curious to see our fuel eco this weekend; 3000 km round trip with JJCanoe's 2012 Ram towing my boat. The only difference between his and mine cab/bed size but we'll have 4 guys and gear for a week. If we get better eco in his, I'm setting mine on fire!!!
  12. I would run 10 awg wire from the battery to the block in case you ever decide to run some power hungry accessories from it. You will also want to add and ground block/bus near the block connected to the battery the same way otherwise riggers and any additional accessories will need to be grounded to the battery directly. Consider returning the MinnKota receptacles; they are expensive and too large for your rigger wiring. The small rigger wire will be floating and flexing constantly and will break off. A larger wire is gripped by the receptacle to avoid this. A two-wire trailer plug style connector will suit your needs much better between the rigger and fuse block.
  13. This reel impresses me as much as the NaCl... http://protacklemuskyshop.com/musky-store-c23.php?cID=93&pID=354
  14. Thanks for posting the link, Lew. Spoke with Leslie the other day and she recommended this camp or Memquisit. Agreed, it's a long boat ride to the usual stompin' grounds but I've had more luck up there! Curious about the docks; lower boat traffic or do the get banged around a bit?
  15. A bit of a generalization but not inaccurate. If you are reaching absolute peak WOT performance from a 3 blade and move to a 4 blade of similar diameter and pitch, you will scrub a bit of top end speed off in most applications but you will benefit from a little better hole-shot and possibly better handling depending on hull design.
  16. Ya, the speed boat and bass boat guys use 4 and 5 blade props to slow down... LOL!! Think it through...you're achieving optimal RPM and blowing out at high trim. Why would you want a higher pitch to reduce your RPM and raise your motor to further reduce you trim options? A 4 blade prop in the water will outperform a 3 blade out of the water all day long. You want to promote bow and stern lift to reduce hull surface in the water. That is the purpose of a four blade prop. The additional blade allows for more prop in the water per revolution at higher trim levels and is especially helpful reducing blowouts on hard turns. I'm not a prop expert but a higher pitch 3 blade and raising your motor seems like a colossal waste of time and money.
  17. Ventilation is a result of not having enough blade in the water. I would consider similar pitch and diameter in a 4 blade prop. This will maintain your hole shot, perform better in turns and provide a touch more trim over a 3 blade prop. Peak performance is striking a balance between hp/weight distribution/water displacement and knowing when its as good as its gonna get. You seem to have enough hp to support that pitch at that motor location. Raising the motor will result in more ventilation and less ability to trim leaving more hull in the water (water displacement). Lowering the motor will offer more trim but will require more hp to provide lift.
  18. I use one knot for everything from 4lb mono - 120 lb mono....never had a knot failure. Nail knot...

  20. I don't doubt the quote but I do question his ability to estimate length. Think about the speed and size of a ramp needed to propel a loaded vehicle the length of a football field. No need to sensationalize a tragedy like this.
  21. In my opinion; you're not going to find too much difference in reels from $80-$120, they're all damn good! Some tend to balance a little better than others (less wobble when spinning) but you'll go out of your mind trying to determine the BEST $100 reel. I've always ended up with Shimano because I've never been disappointed and I can recommend the Symetre or Saros without hesitation.
