One piece is better than two but a two piece is better than nothing. They will both keep you afloat but a one piece suit allows for slower water entry. Believe it or not; as the water creeps in, your body is warming the water and reducing shock to your system. They're not designed to prevent water entering the suit for buoyancy but to control the entry and buy you some time. As mentioned, try different manufacturers for best fit.

If you watch the video I posted you'll see that it probably doesn't matter. Farmers have done away with ponds/reservoirs (letting the ground slowly absorb and filter nutrients and toxins) in favour of drainage networks. These fast flowing networks all eventually dump into larger bodies of water. Lake Winnipeg receives excess nutrients and toxins from hundreds of miles away. Farmers aren't the root of the problem but a big contributor.

Wow is an understatement. Wing was inches from the ground and the guy walking with the camera. These guys couldn't react fast enough to get out of the way of a steamroller. The pilot's reaction was to bank right and correct.... I don't think he saw the camera guy otherwise he might of just banked right and started to ascend.

There are too many 'look how many fish I can catch' shows. I like a show that; - shows you why old school techniques still work. - offers new techniques and when/how to use them. - brings you to familiar surroundings as well as featuring remote outposts. Charlie Wray doesn't always meet that criteria but he's likable, knowledgeable and I'll keep watching.

The colour unit is nice in flasher mode but the real reason most of us use "fancy" machines is because we already have them.

I'm finding the same result. Menu/Settings/System/Satellites... Even when you remove the source, the iGPS is still searching for satellites. I tried entering demo mode which will turn off GPS but it also puts sonar into demo mode. I'm shocked they would drop that capability from the LMS units, I hope we're just missing something.

I'll look into that right now. I haven't used my HDS on ice yet but noticed a big difference in battery life on my LMS units.

The backlight and GPS suck up a lot of juice. To extend your day, lower the backlight and turn off your GPS when not required. You can almost double your battery life in mild temperatures.

The skimmer transducer will work but you'll appreciate the iceducer for the short flexy cord and always pointing straight down. If you opt for the skimmer transducer; mount it on a 1"x2" board about 6" longer than the depth of any ice you might fish. (ie. 14" of ice = 20" stick) Drill 1/4" holes through the face of the board 1" from the top and spaced 3" apart... the last hole being about 6" away from the transducer mount. Hold the stick in the hole lightly allowing it to find its own buoyancy and insert a 1/4" rod through next lower drilled hole. Make sure the rod is long enough to span your opening in the ice with some overlap. This will allow the transducer to dangle instead of float and will always be oriented correctly.

Without looking up the specs, I'd say 6000 RPM is spinning a little quicker than necessary. I'd recommend going up a little in pitch (ex. 17 to 19) in an aluminium prop for starters and give some consideration to a 4 blade. A Vortex 4 blade can be had for about $120. Once you have your pitch & diameter dialed in you can then consider a stainless for better performance and keep the aluminium for a spare.

As much as I agree that one day won't make ANY difference to the fish, it wouldn't influence my decision to book a stay. Has this been a deal-breaker for some bookings or just an annoyance?

Well said. A blockade is not a peaceful protest. At best, its an attempt to draw attention to the cause by creating an annoyance. At worst, (and much too often) its an attempt to provoke an incident.

I think to be fair, you're looking $$350-$400 I've never used the tranx but I've held it and played around with it. There's nothing wrong with it but I think I'd be happier with my 1st Gen Curado 300 (silver) for much less money. The Toro Winch is a nice reel too. If you have your heart set on a SERIOUS reel like the Tranx, keep an eye out for a Trinidad. They've been around a while, they're bullet proof and a little cheaper.
