...if buying a new snowblower would gaurantee no snow...I'd buy a new one every year...

Since today was just to damn cold for my liking, we took a drive down to Bewdley to see what's up on Rice. Was surprised to see a few trucks and even a car out on the ice. If anyone has fished Rice, how much ice is there? Friday on Chemong there was about 10" but I have yet to see a vehicle on the lake. I figger by next weekend it should be a go for vehicular traffic, pending snow conditions and access.

My buddy Russ and I were out there as well, we managed four small perch for a few hours of effort. I think we were fishing just a couple hundred yards to the south of you, we saw the CHEX camera set-up. Like you mentioned, the first little perch was maybe the most exciting fish I've ever caught. So cool to be able to ice fish so close to home. Too bad it's too friggin' cold out there today...

Well I came down with a nasty cold a couple days ago, so we just took it very easy last night (I think I only had one beer, unheard of for New Years). I think it was the right call...now I feel healthy enough for some fishing on Chemong today, heading out shortly.

...well some need more room than others... Geez Beans, I even specifically said "upright" rather than "erect" to avoid this conversation.

I don't think the windows are removable on my hut. They're integrated in to the walls of the tent with a velcro flap to cover them.

I got the Eskimo Quick Fish 3 for Christmas. Cabelas lists it st $299, but Costco had a bunch for $179, I don't know if any stores have any left. I haven't tried it on the ice yet, but have set it up on the deck...lotsa room inside, a little bigger than the one you're looking at but very similiar. I like that it has room to stand fully upright.

First Kawartha Ice Fishing hole is going...?

Hi Tom, I just might take you up on that. I'm gonna go look what Canadian Tire has and maybe what Frank at Bridgenorth Sports has as well. I need something big enough to haul my tackle, my pop-up hut, auger, folding chair, beverages...geez the list keeps getting longer and the load bigger the more I think of it. -
Hopefully Saturday is much better, that's when we have a round trip to burlington.

...back to the original question... Check out this link and if you look closely Rice lake still looks a little dicy. Satellite image Dec 22

First Kawartha Ice Fishing hole is going...?

We'll either be walking out from my house on Buckhorn, or from Mars Marina on Chemong. I hope the ice conditions are conducive for walking, I still need to get my hands on a toboggan of some sort for hauling our stuff. -
I hear ya Beans, I keep hoping to run into the guy who plows our road so I can ask him to keep our rough boat launch at the end of the road clear of any snow banks. I walked halfway out into the bay today, drilled a bunch of holes all about 6". On Thursday I saw some snowmobile tracks on Chemong by the causeway already. A little dicy there I would imagine, It's only been frozen over about a week. The ice in front of my place has been there almost three weeks.

Thanks Roy, I'm still on the fence regarding having the kit installed on my '04 1600 Angler.

lotsa good operators up there. One to stay away from is Snofari Adventures.

Toskala won't be re-signed next year. I think he's a free agent after this year. His money will go to the Monster.

Cliff, you need a PVR (also known as DVR), it's the best thing to come along for TV in a long time.

Has the seller given you a reason for the tri-colour carpet? It certainly didn't come from the factory like that unless it was a Christmas special (green & red). Why the newer motors? What happened to the original motors? Generally a boat like that would have been sold as a package of some sort with factory or dealer installed motors. Why the portable gas tank? I hope it's just hooked up to the kicker because somebody was too lazy to tee into the built in tank, I'm sure it has one. I wouldn't want to go too far with a 115 drinking from a 5 gallon tank, even if it is a 4 stroke. Too many questions to spend that kinda dough in my opinion. Seerms to me the boat has been sunk (and left submerged for some period of time). It would answer all the above concerns. The original carpet, motor and fuel tank were all damaged, contaminated or ruined to some extent for some reason. If you got over 20 grand to spend on a boat, why you would even look at used packages like that is beyond me.

So it's OK to shoot at your neighbour's house? As long as there isn't anybody else to see?
-
It's probably a good idea not to shoot at your neighbour's house...

Welcome to the Kawarthas (full time anyways). I've never regretted my move from Mississauga almost 14 years ago. You'll come to appreciate the simpler things in life.

It should really read "Assembled in Canada".

...by the end of both games, all was right with the world.

I was in the market for a floater suit as well but couldn't find one that was very comfy. Too stiff and bulky for my liking. I just bought a Clam Ice Armor coat and bibs today at Gagnons for $270. Seems like an excellent outfit, built for ice-fishing they say. I figger when I feel the need for floatation (out on iffy ice, which I plan to avoid, or in the boat early or late in the season) there is plenty of room inside or outside the coat for a lifejacket.

I bought a new 6" hand auger at BPS today. Punched a few holes just off shore in my bay, already a good 5" of ice. Hopefully the snow stays away and we can get some good ice building weather. Buckhorn is frozen over as far as I can see as of yesterday morning.

I wouldn't trust much of the ice on Katchewanooka. It's more like a river than a lake. Anytime the Trent Severn decides to move some water, any current areas will deteriorate quickly. The only safe ice would probably be on the south-east shore north of Lakefield College. Just look for the regular snowmobile traffic on the lake. According to my map, some of the best fishing might be right near there. Drops down to a nice 18' to 20' basin not to far from shore.
