Wynton Marsellus is still one good jazz man. And as far as Dinah....I was ready to convert if she would have had me even though I was pre puberty. I really wanted to see the USA in HER Chevrolet!

We used to go every year, but for the past few have not made the trip. Unless we can get 4 to 6 going in a mini van probably won't go again this year. Figure by the time 2 of us go in my truck it will cost $40 ea for gas ( 2 1/2 to 3 hours each way ) $10 for parking, another $12 or so for admission, $10 to $20 for lunch and dinner so I would have spent at least $70 before making any purchase at the show. No savings there plus the last time we went there was so many superfluous junk booths it was ridiculous. For the $10 dollar admission. free parking and 1 hour ride the London show last weekend was good enough for me. I guess I'm also lucky in that from where we live I can go to Gander Mountain in Port Huron in less then 45 Min, Bass Pro in Utica Mich in about an hour and 15 min or Cabela's in Dundee Mich in about 2 hours or less so driving longer distances to pay more doesn't turn my crank anymore.

I purchased an electric filet knife years ago and do all my Bass and Salmon with it. Once you get on to them they can save you loads of time.

Ice came to late in my area and when my "friends" did go to Lake St Clair they neglected to ask me, although they did put out feelers to see if I would lend them my Jiffy and portable hut. Guess I have to bathe more often or maybe leave everyone use my equipment.!

Be careful who you save money with. Deg sent me this picture today and I thought it would fit nicely in this post! -
As I type this NYMEX is trading down at $60.01 a barrel...this will fluctuate throughout the day until trading closes. The shortage in Ontario is due to the Sarnia and Nanitoke fire, but I guess that since there are no pipelines from Mtl or Alberta we will pay whatever esso and their friends in collusion with them decide we should. I'll be buying my gas in Pt Huron Mich Thursday while over for a day trip. Canada is self sufficient when it comes to oil energy, we just choose to sell it to the world market at more profit than give our own citizens and manufacturing industry a break to help our economy.

Wow will my age be showing on this one. I'll try to remember some of the more famous people I have had the opportunity to meet. Remember I grew up in Chicago and before and even after moving to Canada in the late 70's traveled about 2 to 3 weeks of each month for the company I then worked for....so here it goes. While in my teens ( an having a fake ID ) I had the opportunity to sit with Louis Armstrong in his dressing room and share a beer or two while he was doing a show in a lounge in South Bend Indiana. My best friend at the time was related to Rudi Blesh and since Louis knew Rudi well there was an invite to the dressing room after the first set. We used to frequent the Blues and Jazz bars in the old and new town districts of Chicago and I had the opportunity to share some beers with ( in no particular order ) Muddy Waters, The Howling Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Sonny Boy Williamson, Oscar Peterson, Dave Brubeck, Paul Desmond and a few more. When Jo and I got married two of the guests at the wedding were Stan Mikita and Glen Hall. The Mikita's were friends of her family. The bar was very busy when Stan was the bartender for about a half hour. Through all the air travel I did in the late 60' 70's and 80's I sat with Knolton Nash when he was anchor of the National a few times while flying with Air Canada, also flew with Peter Mansbridge before he was the anchor. Flew with the Boston Bruins, New York Rangers who were put on our flight when their planes had some trouble. The music group Chilliwack, skater Josee Chouinard to name a few. Since the 90's when we started and ran our own business only person anyone would know is a guy by the name of T.J. Quesnel...and by the way as him what the letters stand for!

As mentioned in a post last night I was not sure if we would go and work the show today ( Sun ) with the forecast so I went yesterday. We still ( North of Sarnia ) have not had and precipitation as of 12:15PM but radar shows it still coming. You made the right decision by staying home. Although the show was in my estimation a good one by London standards, it's not worth risking an accident if you don't have to.

If you ever are in there pm me the brands they carry and if possible price. I get mine in Pt Huron Mich at present, but would like to try a different brand.

There are a few lakes I would go back to in an instant and right on top of my list is Kag. Fishable in all kinds of weather, loads of islands and structure and tons of Walleyes and other species. I LOVE this lake and envy you and your trip.... If you can't catch fish on Kag take up knitting! Oh did I say I LOVE this lake!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although I'm suppose to be working a booth tomorrow ( Sunday ) with the potential bad weather forecast I decided to go today just in case we can't make it in the AM. Overall I thought this was one of the better London shows in years. lot's of tackle dealers and some better than average deals. Boats....there were some nice displays and some really good deals if your ready to purchase. I'm now in Love with a Lund and a Legend but not ready to divorce my wife to get either. There were the usual what I consider side bar booths with different products, like Jerky, maps, boat repair etc and finally a fair amount of fishing lodges to talk to. I spent a lot of time with Serge and Kelly Marin of Elk Cabins in Elk Lake. They, along with Rene and Jean Pelliser ( Kelly's parents ) are very old friends of mine that unfortunately I don't get to see very often. If you have the time Sunday take the trip and look around. It will be a lot nicer inside looking, and possibly spending some dollars, then playing outside in the winter storm that's forecast.

NF- Hope your families are all home safe tonight

Yesterdays storm took most people by surprise. I spent the morning getting the 3 retreat facilities at the camp ready for the customers that were scheduled to start arriving yesterday afternoon. At 2:00 I used the front end loader to clear all paths and sidewalks as the packed snow and ice were melting. Just as I finished the wind shifted to the North and within 15 min all the water left on these areas was frozen. From that point the weather went downhill quickly. My son in law, who is a shift worker, said last nights 35 Km ride home was among the worst he has ever driven in. People in Forest which is 7Km from out house by the lake, stayed in town at friends and relations as visibility was nil. All in all not a good night to be out. Hope everyone got to there destinations safely.. -
Let's all remember this when the Ontario elections come up this fall. The Provence has lots of money to build smoking rooms for the casinos ( but won't allow private businesses do so ) but no money for the MNR. I guess you got to spend money to make money!

Lew...as long as the injuries can heal the outcome will have a happy ending. The guy who cut her off could care less but he has to live with himself and some day he may regret being a jerk, however only time will tell.

They have more freekin excuses ( possibly lies ? ) to justify any price they want. Yes we in Sarnia had an explosion at the refinery a few weeks ago and there was the fire, but if those two operations can create this much chaos wait until the Canadian hurricane season. Canada is self sufficient in oil energy, we just choose to sell it to the rest of the markets, especially the US. Most oil producing nations charge their population a much lower rate than their customers but noooooo not us. It's obviously time for the Federal Government to take a serious in depth look at the collusion that goes on between oil companies. Funny thing is we are an oil ( energy ) based economy but no one seems to mention the obvious detriment to purchasing and manufacturing when prices rise. Oh and while I'm at it let me mention the Hybrid......if we have pollution form emissions what is going to happen in the next 5 to 10 years when all these lead batteries used in these "efficient" vehicles have to be replaced. Hope they recycle!

Compare to Walleye pike has a firmer flesh and if within reasonable size and caught out of cool to colder water is excellent eating. The trick is to fillet out the bones. Years ago when Kevin Geray ( Anglers Kingdom ) had the television series "Outdoor Encounters" He put out a video and part of it was how to clean a pike easily while removing the bones. I have the video but haven't watched it in years, now that your post has reminded me of it think I'll take a look again. Look at his lodges website it may still be available. One other guy that really knew how to fillet a Pike was Frank Yuhas a past owner of "Five Mile Lake Lodge" He did a segment on Cronzy's Ontario fisherman show in the early 90's that I also have on tape ( used to tape every one of Cronzy's shows back then). Now I have two things to watch again.....Thanks for the post!

Just looked at the long range forecast for Southwestern Ontario and even though right now 9:06 PM it's -12C ( 4F ) according to the predictions the cold spell will end starting tomorrow with temps above freezing. Suppose to be like this for a week or so with possible rain mixed in. If true be careful all you ice fishermen and watch for changing conditions.

Just a bit of advice...based on my experience years back don't go wading in the water at night while fishing!

Well next weekend is the London show. For some reason I feel it has got better the past few years after a real decline in the early 2000's. If your there on Sunday the 25th stop by the Bluewater Anglers salmon derby booth between 10AM and 1PM and say hello. I'll be selling tickets with my friend Paul.

mmmmmmm lets see... Maybe a fly in with leuenbergers or another outfitter in spring or fall ( if not this year then next ) Lakair G2G in June ( to good to miss ) My usual trips out on Huron by the house throughout the summer with the possible trip to a few OFC'ers places Mon thru Thursday ( I work weekends ) and most likely Silvr'y Moon again in Sept if we don't do the fly in. I really hope to get out as much as possible this year as last summer by the house was a bust for many reasons beyond my control...things like wind and weather. Amy says she nneds more fishing this year also!

'67 Leafs: One for the ages - Updated with pics!
Garyv replied to Gerritt's topic in General Discussion
Brought back a bunch of old memories. When I first came to Canada to run the office we purchased a block of season tickets and used them as perks. As years went by and the 70's turned into the 80's we had trouble giving them away. I still think the best years of watching hockey ( in my age bracket were the 50's, 60's and 70's ) I was at the game when Baun broke his ankle after taking a puck. He went into the dressing room and returned to play the rest of the game. Guys back them had no only guts but a love of the game that went beyond dollars. One funny side note. During one of Shacks final seasons while playing the Blackhawks at Chicago Stadium just about every time he went passed Chicago defense-man Keith Magnuson... Maggie would drop the gloves and start swinging. The third time besides the fighting penalty Keith was thrown out of the game. After the game a reporter for the Chicago Tribune asked Shack why Magnuson was so ticked at him. Eddies reply...he didn't like what I told him about my date with his mother last night!
