  1. u can approach companies with the idea. but again, u have to be careful with it, once u tell them the idea, if u have no proof that it was your idea, theres no stopping them from putting it into production and leaving u out in the cold, so to speak. so, as i said, write the letter, sign it, date it, and mail it to urself, and then tuck it someplace safe and leave it sealed. then as u go forward in whichever manner u choose, u have proof of the fact u had this idea before u went to a company. so should they try to screw u, u have somethin to cover ur butt. and yes, like bill said, once it passes through canada post, they stamp it, certifying that it was done at a certain date, making it a legal document.
  2. where do u see us making up our own rules?? those are the rules set out in the regs. it says rite in the regs, they should be killed. but like i said, i was told by a member of the MNR that is not illegal to throw them back in the water because its not going to affect the population at all. i think carp cause more damage then gobies do, but u dont see everyone tossing carp up on the grass. and no, i dont use them for bait, and have stoped many others from using them as bait, AND i educate everyone about them who doesnt yet know. so, dont go running ur mouth and accusing us of wrong doing based on what we know, how we interpret the regs or what we have been told by others who know the laws far better then u. if u dont like the answers or our interpretations then call the mnr, and ask them urself and see what they answer.
  3. yup, i fish the harbour all through the spring summer and fall! welcome to join me anytime down there
  4. god that thing is ugly lol but yea, they are fun to catch.
  5. write ur idea down on a piece of paper, date it and sign it. and mail it back to urself. put it in a drawer and do not open it. then go ahead with ur product production. thats one way to cover ur butt on it. its kinda of a cheater way to patent something. someone i know in a tackle industry does that with lure designs. but in the long run, the best and safest way is to pay for the patent.
  6. harbor for perch and crappies on the 1st saturday and dunnville to the grand river at fish, asters bait and tackle for channel cats on the 2nd saturday.
  7. if u read the wording in the regs... it doesnt say its against the law to throw them back in the water. it says they "should " be killed... not "must" be killed. and as said, we're never gonna make a dent in the population, and they have become the main forage for most game fish now. if u are going to toss them on land though, please toss them all in one area, like in the bushes or someplace thats NOT on the mail walkway or just scattered all over the grass and paths people walk on and where our kids play and run. gets kinda gross after a bit. i was told by someone from the MNR its not illegal to throw them back due to the fact they are there to stay and it wont make a difference if i kill one or 1000. now, im sure someone will argue with me, or say im lying, no i dont know who it was that told me that, so dont ask. dont tell me im a liar, cause i assure u, im not unless it comes to the size of the fish that got away, and lastly... we all know how often we get different stories and law interpretations from different people.
  8. lots of options within an hour of oakville. binbrook conservation area, mountsburg, kelso lake, valens conservation area, christie consertation area, hamilton harbour, lake ontario, grand river in caledonia, cayuga and dunnville. harbour and grand river are great for a kayak, as are the conservation areas. and between all those areas, u'll have covered just about all the freshwater fish species to be caught in southern ontario and keep ya busy all 4 seasons!
  9. little cold out yet for gobies. minnows on bottom should land u some perch or catfish. i plan on getting out soon for some pike and trout. pike close march 31st. so wanna get a day or 2 in before that happens. i dont fish hamilton much till bass opens, then i put my time in, just fun fishing with the wife and kids and a few tournies in the harbour.
  10. ur referring to spencer creek. yes has suckers, not a sanctuary as far as i know, but again, check the regs. there are resident trout that stay in that creek year round. as for a float rod, just dont use roe and u'll be fine. ive never seen a CO around hamilton and the cops rarely even look at fishermen. pink worms will be fine, u can tell them ur targeting suckers. however, i would use a natural colored worm as well, they can work really well too. i hate using live bait, its a pain in the butt. even in the odd offball chance a CO or cop did fine u for fishing for trout, they have to prove it in court when i fight it. and they cant prove it, so they would dismiss the charge. keep a camera, and snap a couple pics of the suckers u catch for proof.
  11. yup... its fun isnt it?? lol. for real though, u;ve been told what to do.. tape it tight to restrict the movement as best u can, take it easy, try not to cough, sneeze or laugh. i know, easier said then done... dont run any marathons or fall down again. u can take as strong a pain killer as u can find or be prescribed. and just relax as best ya can. its gonna hurt for a couple weeks or more depending on how fast ur body heals itself.
  12. use a heavy rod and reel with a big line capacity. i use my muskie gear. 50lb braid, 1-3oz slip sinker, depending on current. good quality swivel, 12-18inch 20-25lb mono or flouro leader. 5/0 circle hook. buy a bag of cutbait from fishmasters bait and tackle. and go fish, dont leave ur rod or u'll be buying a new one! lol shore or boat is fine, talk to steve at the store, he'll point u in the rite direction. but thats the setup to use!
  13. wayne's correct! its a very valuable tool when culling similar sized fish. a scale is unreliable in rough water. and to weigh 2 fish can be time consuming, where as taking 2 fish and putting them on the beam takes a second. time in everything in a tourney!! if i spent less time catching muskies when i fish with wayne in tournies we'd have time to catch that 5th bass or kicker fish we need... lol
  14. cant wait to get out there bob!!
  15. all original packs. unless for some reason that bag becomes no longer usable. i might try putting them in trays this year, or into a binder with the bags inside to hopefully hold more stock at one time, and at the same time take up less space in my bag, and be a bit more organized
  16. should get ya by just fine bud! i use an abu garcia C3 6501 reel and a 7'6" med/hvy st croix premier muskie rod, and a abu C3 5601 reel and a 7' heavy action diawa rod. but ive used bass rods, and even landed 3 cats of 6lbs, 8lbs and 10lbs on a 3' kids princess rod with 4lb mono on it. its all how ya fight the fish
  17. we've got a dodge dakota quad cab and a dodge durango. both do the job just fine. small box in the pickup but put all ur rods in one corner with the rod tips facing the back of the truck and ur fine. strap all ur rods together and ur good to go. u can even use a bungee cord to hold them in the bed of the truck if ur really worried. the durango its just huge, (we have the older model, before the made them look like a minivan on roids...) holds everything we need it too. lots of space for rods. the f150 has a much larger box in it and will hold some rods no problem. even if u lay them in on an angle. or u can do the same thing i mentioned above if u have more stuff to put in there.
  18. i would spool it with braid. 30-50lb. it will sit better on the reel and the nests are easier to pick out. especially with cheap mono, the memory on it will cause it to loosen on the spool making more backlashes.
  19. never heard of them to be honest. can u put up a couple pics so we can have a look?
  20. u have the rite set up. its what i use. except the power pro... i hate that crap. lol. but 50lb braid, 1-3oz slip sinker depending how current is flowing. then a good swivel, about 18inches of 20-25lb mono or flouro, then a 5/0 circle hook. fishing on bottom with a heavy weight ur BOUND to get snagged. its gonna happen. i go days without snagging once or losing any gear... then i go one day and find myself retying every 20 minutes. u have the rite set up. what are u using for a rod and reel? and where do u plan on fishing for them big kitties?
  21. im loving the new site rick! cant wait to see what else u have in store for us!!
  22. great set up!! u wont be disappointed with that combo bud!!
  23. its all weird and scary... yet... a happy site to see and have back... ya know, while we were offline... i did some things im not really proud of... family time, shopping with the wife... spring cleaning.... *shudders*
