Very cool. I just purchased a late 60's model Viking 6 hp that runs quite well but I wish I had your talents for when things start to go sour. Maybe I'll make the drive south to powassan and pick yer brain

I jokingly thought to myself "he's gonna sit there with a jig and minnow and slay fish just like his backyard" Sure enough....

Anyone wanna trade some back lakes ?
Joeytier replied to Rustic-Fisher's topic in General Discussion
Boat? Truck camping or water access? Size of lake? How rough of a road are you willing to drive down? I could point you in the direction of some good ones that are likely just over your 3 hour cap. -
Good job, mr. Solid. Looks like a great time, and looks like they even have you guys set up with four strokes?

big black cat in the Dalrymple area...

Crazy. A few years back some chump from Bonfield/Corbeil area had a 'petting zoo' and had a panther get loose. -
Soo rapids in the summer = atlantics!! Also, the mouths of all the rivers north if the soo could potentially have coaster brookies and salmon/steelhead depending on wind and water temps. While you drive through LSPP there are a few stocked lakes you could fish right off the hwy like Mom/Dad/Baby and Rabbitt Blanket

Nice report, and nice flies. That largemouth mustve been insane on a 5wt

Smallies will push bait on the surface over deep basins very regularly, especially with a forage base like herring and smelt.

Nice dock!

Small lake, lake trout suggestions please
Joeytier replied to Dave Bailey's topic in General Discussion
On smaller lakes, you typically won't have to go quite as deep as on larger lakes. Run 2 or 3 oz bell sinkers on a 3 way swivel and whatever you like behind it. I like gangtrolls and williams. I tried experimenting with a snelled gulp minnow behind a williams trophy spoon with good results. Troll slow -
Fishing will likely be tougher than compared to spring time, but fish should be prespawn and water should be cooling and bringing fish back shallow. No reason why the spinning gear won't produce just as many bites, if not more. If your buddies are catching fish, keep experimenting until you find something they want to eat

I guess that was the only way to be alone with your buddy's girlfriend?? Haha

Curiosity finally got the best of me. Every once in a while fishing one of a couple local lakes i would catch a glimpse of a monster fire tower on a huge plateau in the terrain. I spoke with a couple older guys that have lived there for years and were unable to find the trail. Apparently it hadn't been used in over 30 years, which made me reallly interested. The mapping software on my GPS had a point labelled 'fire' approximately where I figured the tower would be, so that would be my first hunch. I got as close as I could on the machine through some barely visible long forgotten logging roads and bushwhacked my way to the waypoint, only to find a beautiful bluff rock with a pretty great view and a very old foundation of some sort of old cedar lookout structure. Lo and behold, I see the tower...not quite as close as I thought it'd be... With such a great view I was easily able to determine which plateau the structure was on, and roughly which trail would get me the closest, so off we went. After another hour or so of slogging through some brutal trails I get an eyeball on it and know I'm actually heading towards it this time. We finally find the swamp at the base of the hill, park the big bear and make our way up the nearly vertical hill to reach the tower...not sure exactly how tall this monster is but it was tall enough to spook me who has never had a fear of heights, and my girlfriend never considered it even for a second... I finally made it to the top, and was welcomed with an extremely rickety, worn out structure complete with holes in the rotten wood and an old abandoned osprey nest. I could only imagine popping your head up and finding an angry momma osprey ready to protect her young... On top of that, there was about a 70 k sustained wind and thunderclouds all around me. But it really didn't matter, because the view was absolutely flabbergasting and 100% worth the journey. I enjoyed a Grolsch and my moment of zen then swiftly returned to the safety of hard ground. Anyone else have some fire tower hunting stories?

Looks like a great time with some quality wally fishing. Good average size for nip too, some of them must have made the cut for the new slot?

Wow looks great! Hopefully you can spend the rest of the summer enjoying the fruits of your (well lubricated) labour
