Kennisis or Redstone lake in Haliburton Highlands
waterwolf replied to boatdrinks's topic in General Discussion
good luck with the trout ,both are good lakes,, great choices. always interesting on a trying a new pond. enjoy! -
12 lb mono is just too long of a fight for a good size wolf. 6lb and below ,,okay. 30 lb. stren super-braid is bullet proof enough for the mid -teens i argue with on the odd occasion. a safe ,healthy and sure release is usually a certainty.

got an invite to hit simcoe from the guys ,, had the day off , why not? got set up at 9:00 and 10 minutes later ,, the early birds get their first fish. steady action between 9:45 and noon iciing a couple [ misssed a few] tip-ups in the hut with spreaders and mainly jigging outside with williams half and half. finally at 2:30 , i come up solid on this beauty. nervous couple of minutes trying to get it steered headfirst to the hole . i was expecting a heavier laker ,, this fish took drag countless times ,,never gave up !! what a brute. tuesdays catch , 4 whities , 1 lake trout. another great day on simcoe ,,nice to be able to share this with you folks. hope the ice holds 'til the weekend.m
-
what a great report ,, man those whitiies are massive!! laker. a beauty! a big WTG. great guiding backed up with some serious fish,, what a day for you guys! love that close-up pic. of the laker comin' out of the hole . great post.
-
WTG , you're on the board . that's one i haven't iced yet,,the whitie i mean, but it's not over yet. good job !
-
that's perfect ,, right on the head with that one ,,CHEERS!!

great to hear you got a good deal on some rods but i have a beef with CTC. power augers, decent ice fishing equipment ,, something smaller than xxxl hunting clothing and good deals on soft water fishing equipment . these items seldem get stocked at all in the brampton?mississauga stores. i can understand [a bit] why out-lying stores get the nod for this gear but that doesn't help me at all. they had a flyer out for a power auger cheap and 50% off ice fishing equip. . went to check it out,,"we didn't get any of those at this store" i asked where are you hiding all of the ice fishin' gear ? "that's it over there". you're kidding ,,3 guppy rods and a couple packs of twister tails , grrrrrr. my buddy got a pair of huntin' pants cheap ,, he's xxxl. they had nothing smaller.

my 16 yr. old daughter nearly fell victim to these vultures ,, deposit an empty envelope and try to grab a grand from her account. account was frozen, she couldn't pay her bill at the restaurant,, luckily her bank was right next door and she went in and questioned ,what's up? they had all the info they needed to take the cash , just asked too much of a student account and were shut down . man ,,that's scary stuff !!

huge statements from such small minds -
a nice introduction with a good day on the big water ,, simcoe ,, well done .
-
someone lost their life ,, a bit of compassion is in order sir .

due to the fact i recently surrendered my shimano symetrie to a steroid-junky pike , just picked up a thrifty mitchell avocet . 8 bearings just don't know how the drag will handle big she-wolves and the cold. probably a decent ice reel for the investment. mitchell's are bullet-proof , might be a great ice reel ,,eh matt?
-
love them smelts, yummy
-
that last one ,, wow ,, finned football . CHUNK. congrat's!
-
stay tough gerrit !! well done!! mith busted ,, a lot of people like the quitters. lol congrat's to all you strong minds. i'm 2 yrs. free of that crap . big WTG people !!
-

fishin' with a friend and his mrs. 10 or 11 yrs. ago on sparrow lake in a canoe. he tossed a frog to blue pike resting still near the surface . it was about the same size as your pike . asked the outfitter there about it he didn't believe my buddy 'til the pike was shown to him . he didn't know what to make of it. read an article in oood mag.about these fish and mnr asks you report and catches or sightings. nice picture of a rare fish ,,congrat's.

was'nt too upset,, should have expected it ,, i've known one of 'em for 35yrs. ,, he's always "runnin'a bit behind" there wasn't even a breeze out there, beauty day,, only 6 other people fishing in the area , man it was nice and quiet,, perfect. might make the drive again tomorrow , just have to find if the hut has any reservations available. we got over-run with phone calls from others who share time in the hut ,, asking if the hut was producing, we'll see if they can squeeze me in . maybe just cut a hole next to the hut lol. either way i'll be out on the ice somewhere tomorrow for sure . thanks jacques stay safe

i was on time ,,they were late . met 2 buds close to shanty bay an hour after the time agreed upon. i don't have an arguement ,, they hold the key to the hut and the tank of propane ,,, a bit nipply for a contest on that one. i waited in the truck quietly. it's never what it seems when a buddy says they're doin' great ,,fish are a nuisance ,, an interruption ,, we're talkin' here, buzz off finned irritants!!! okay ,, i'm in!! right? they were late ,, i was less than happy ,,,,, i grabbed a halo pretty quick and forgave these morons when the tip-ups started to dance!! we caught a few but man,, it was nonstop. missed a bunch ,, kept us starin' at those tip-ups with itchy fingers. laughed all day to the tall tales ," they," iced some beauties ," i " netted, and had a really great time . simcoe really surprised me . honestly ,,all day! incredible action,,, she's amazing!! pike'n on my pond might take a back seat to simcoe troutin',, for a bit. i had a great time on a healthy body of water. I must apologize for poor photo quality,,, disposable cameras are more beer friendly. Talented hands prevail. Great net job on a solid laker. A few more for the good guys, looking forward to another trip on this great fishery!!

Typical weekend on my pond. #1 always a bit of open water on the way out ,, no biggy,, maybe a foot at best. #2&3 the accomodations,, sausages make an outing #4&5 always count on a few of these guys on any given day #6 who invited this thing? anybody lost a size 10 sandal ,,, with legs?
-
just got back ,, we hit a few ,, missed more ,,lol. busy day inside the hut on spreaders. we had a blast!! good luck ,, friday looks prime.!!

i think i have both of those in the box. that might get me on that leader board . thanks sinker. man it's cold out there already,, mornin' will find the brass monkey in the fetal position hangin' on for dear life.

my buddies in barrie have been annoying me with their success in the "kemper kitchen" so they've named the shack .. whities and lakers have been persuaded to enter the kitchen on most outings so i'm told ,, so i thought i'd take advantage of a day off and see what's what and take a gander at the leader board inside this fish "magnet". drop my daughter off at her aunts at 6:30 then straight on to meet up with the guys in barrie. kind of a late start , but i've heard much of the activity peaks at 11:00 for lakers. don't know , it's gonna be my 1st trip out for something besides fresh water wolves.[pike]. lookin' forward to it ,, fish iced or not ,, should be a good time. anyone tryin' kemp. bay tomorrow ? i have a decent variety of gear to throw , just wondering if anyone has had a bit more success with one or two lures and wouldn't mind a nod in that direction. it's always a tough seat bein' the new guy to the hut,,,, these guys don't let much slide ,, if you know what i mean ,, jokers !! to be polite thanks in advance.

no changing fouled or empty tanks on in inboard. but would to agree that a large thumper in the bottom of a boat would certainly make for a better ride when things got a little more bumpy than a flat lake'.
