Hit Lake x chasing the elusive 40 in. ghost that haunts this lake (of this I'm sure. lol) Not the perfect conditions for a trophy, but if you don't shoot, you don't score. With bluebird skies, lack of any snow on the ice and a strong wind blowin' , camp was set up amongst these stumps to prevent my gear from flyin' down the lake at Mach 5. With a late bite, the first pike showed up at 11:15 and was iced without event. Fish #2 was mean, very angry. Had her on for maybe 5 secconds, got off. Checked the bait, adjusted it and sent it back down the hole. 2 seconds later, BAM!! She's back on! While i was removing my hook i saw a deeply rooted hook attached to some mono. Hook was too deep to get at so i tried to trim the mono as much as possible with clippers. She grew impatient and let me know it. The average fish today 28 in. Dead stickin' sometimes poses a threat to a good relaease due to deep hook-ups. Barbless hooks, extra long pliers, and a delicate touch are critical. Line or leader rash. Ouch. Best photos of the day are healthy releases. 4 beauty pike went back down the hole. Days events: 4 iced, 1 lost at the hole, 3 hits missed, a decent day, kept me busy. Sorry for the lack of imagination with the photos but the cold wind was freezin' the fish up fast, no time to get creative. Oh yeah, one question, who is this? Perch, Blue Gill, or Crappie? (2 in. long)

a great link for sure. just found out my fav. lake has been hiding a little shoal from me . i thought i had that lake totally figured out. hope the ice holds 'til sunday, i'll be tryin' that newly discovered structure. that's just one lake ,, gonna be a late night . thanks for the heads up.

the fishin'\flyin' trip is one great read ,, building your own plane is a whole new animal !! nothing short of amazing sir. big hats off on your lifesyle.

haven't read the reg's on the cisco fishery,, is there a catch and keep or no? i let 'em go, but they look tasty. either way , catching herring beats a skunk to me and they're a decent fight for their size. gotta watch that snowless ice,, went ass over tea kettle on sunday as well. totally agree on the bad weather call for good fishing . a good west wind , snow coming down and a 99 on the barometer is usually a good pike bite on lake x. i'm with leechman , any slow day out on it is better than date with the tube. thanks for sharing your tough day.

some beautiful trout there, but man there's gotta be another way!! lol great pic's of a dedicated maniac and the results of his obsession. thanks for the ride-along right on!

big females have the feed bag on and are lookin' to pack on weight for the ice-out spawn. i don't know how much current ,or how far out into the main lake the open water goes but live minnows or dead baits like sardines or blue stickleback served under a bobber represent an easy meal with little energy expended by momma pike and can be drifted out beyond your casting capabilties with other lures. the more water covered , the better your odds. looks and sounds like you are in a great spot ,, good luck mike

i did the hunter\safety course in a different environment. this was a few years ago ,, i think it was over 8 or 10 weeks at a retired gents home. for an hour each week i got to sit and chat about hunting situations with 6 other guys and a very knowledgeable course provider who seemed very interested in our understanding of course material ,,but went even further into ethics and other fundamentals. i had already been hunting for many years with my dad but still got a lot out of this course that has stayed with me 'til today. met a great guy ,, got a lot out each week . the stories and a cup of tea were sometimes the best part. a $100 was a bargain. walked the MNR tests,, although he's no longer with us ,,thanks harry!
