  1. Some very good ideas. I have some stuff drawn up and will have time over the holidays to put everything together. Mods if you want to jump in here to give me suggestions or approval.
  2. I have been waiting this for a while now. I have some blanks on the way from his new found company. Looking forward to getting them done for the upcoming season. Very light and super sensitive from what I hear. Here is the link. http://www.northforkcomposites.com/index.html
  3. Another year has come and gone, well almost. I ponder over the year I have had and even though I never got out much, and for good reason. It was good to get out with friends just the same. I'm now looking forward to my Daughters first Christmas to which I have not had this much excitement since I was a small lad. I cant wait to dress up as Santa for her on Christmas morning. She is growing so fast its crazy. I would like to wish all my fellow OFC members a Merry Merry Christmas. Remember to be safe. Hope the fat guy in Red brings you all that you asked for.
  4. Must be tough shoveling snow with no shirt.
  5. Bass Pro Shops and Lebarons have a very limited selection of Loomis rods. Gangnons has a better selection but to far for you probally. I take the drive out to Hamilton every time as they tend to have all that I need rather than wasting my time like other stores. If they dont have it they can get it quick. Best part about Loomis is theie warranty. I have a few loomis rods . Love them and they will last you forever. If you dont like loomis then I'm sure they will set you up with whatever manufactuer you want. They have them all.
  6. Just another reminder that some of the Local stores are having great sales. Keeping it local pays of for us in the end. I was just out at Fishing World in Hamilton and Wow is all I can say. They have a huge selection of Winter Gear. Ice fishing stuff wont last long at the prices they have. Some hard to get Sold out elsewhere stuff as well. Very large selection of 2010 bait from all manufactuers. Supporting our local stores keeps our prices down. Great service also, which is what matters.
  7. Give Blake a call @ Fishingworld. They have what you ant in stock and the prices are amazing for G loomis gear.
  8. You first need to find a use for the reel you want to but. General good all around reel would be a 6 speed. If you are looking for speed then the faster 7 speed reels are better for that. All 4 reels have their place. Daiwa Fuego's right now for the price cant be beat and are very smooth reels. The Curado is by no way as smooth as the Abu,PT, or the Fuego bit does palm nicely and has a very nice pickup recovery. Great Froggin reel and good for you reaction type baits. However you will have to grease the Abu and Curado more than the PT and Fuego. Tolerences on the Abu are not as good as the Quantum and Daiwa. On a scale of 1-4 I would rate the reels as this. 1:Quantum PT 2:Daiwa Fuego 3:Abu Revo 4:Shimano Curado This is just based on smoothness of the reels. However with a little cleaning and grease swap and a little polishing of the roughly cut gears the Curado and Abu will turn out very smooth. Tends to get dirty very easily. For size it would be a toss up between the Curado and the Fuego. The Quantum is still a bigger reel but will feel Like an older Calais for smoothness. It actually feels like you have a solid peice of machinery in your hands. Dont buy one for lightness as some reels being light as they are do not balance on the rod very nice. Tends to give you a tired forearm and a nervous shoulder after a long day of casting. I personally like a heaviey reel on a rod that I even weight sometimes for balance. You can have a rod/reel combo that if weighed will scare you but you can fish all day without fatigue. First pick a technique you want to use this for and I'm sure someone can better answer your question. Bass Pro and Hirks in Bomanville, Fishing World has some great deals on right now for sure. Hirks has been selling the revo for a fantastic deal. Bass Pro gnerally is higher than all others but you get to see stuffed animals. Lol. and Fishingworld will give you great deals. Better to buy in a smaller store to get better service usually. Just my opinion, not stirring the pot

    Hey JPD!

Not Bashing the product from in experience. The tolerences are not that great as a result of where they are made. Put it up against your White Stradics and let you self see the differnce. Try taking one apart. Gears could have been a little smoother like the rest of the former Stradics before the FH. I have used this reel and if you would like I can give you a fully detailed assessment on the reel. You know better than that. Look at how many reels I sell on here . The Stradics have come downhill for the last 3 years as well as many other Shimano Products. As a result I have unloaded all my Shimano products. Personal choice. I dont stand behind a product that states they are worth the pricepoint when they are not. Same reason why I just sold all my Core reels. The Flex in that CI-4 is far more than I like and in my Oponion which is what Roy had asked for (Peoples opinion) i think they will break and chip. Hooksets will not break a reel seat JP. Unless you are fishing for Marlin with that reel neither will straping it down on a Bassboat Deck. They are always strapped. I was refering to the average guy who throws it in an aluminum boat or whatever or in the back of a truck. You came on this site a while back and spoke about someone reading the post, please read mine as I stated if you can find a Shimano Fh reel then buy it. This reel will last forever. I understand that you are Sponsored but to state that I speak from not knowing a product is wrong. I have owned every single Shimano reel made here and most JDM reels and have found that since they went outside Japan the reels quality is going down and price going up. The new Core 51 is a mere copy of the Alberdan. The Alberdan is a JDM reel and it to has sacrificed quality. Go on the boards in the US and see how many guys are complaining about Shimanos quality and pricepoint. That you can check for yourself. Every single reel produced in the last 3 years by Shimano is a mere copy of their JDM counterpart with a little less bells and whistles. Quality gets sacrificed when anglers want weight reduction. This trend is getting the better of some Companies. Take for instance that even yourself have stated on here the quality of Shimanos older reels. This reel has chipped on me and the smoothness is not there. The Flex if used in extreme cold weather might get broken. Think about and research how carbon gets brittle when cold. I feel that it is not worth the $300 or plus price tag we have to pay for it here. He wants a reel that will last forever and a spare spool is indeed nice. Thats my opinion and I'm sticking with it. Not looking to Start a message war here but I'm entitled to my Opinion and will continue to do so. Trust me when I say I have always used Shimano but feel I wont support them for various reasons as stated above anymore. They are still a great company but in turn its my money and I will spend it the way I wish as well as (Properly) inform others on my reasons why when asked. I dont tell for no reason. Sorry to have ruffled your feathers on this one but it is what it is.
  10. Why would a inpellor be covered under warranty. Your brakes and exhaust are not on a car. What kind of water were you running it in? I flush my motor every week with a hose and I still get my impellor changed every season no matter what. Preventative maintance I call it. They tell you to flush it in your manual. If you have not been doing so then it will wear from sand etc grinding away at it. Have you done your plugs yet?

    Hey JPD!

Hey Roy, The new Stradic reel is nice like the other guys have mentioned, however the CI (Carbon Innerfusion) has me worried. Shimano has been making this Carbon for a while now. Its not a new process for them. They have been using it on Bicycles for some time but on fixed bike parts. The reason I say this is that if on a fixed part that does not have flex its a great product. However on the reels its a whole different story. Most guys dont treat their gear like guys like me for instance. I have covers for all reels. When done I remove all reels and place them in a reel box. I cover all gear all the time. The (Normal ) angler Tends not to cover the reel and let them bounce around with other rods/reels. This reel chips easily, has way to much flex in the reel seat that I would not like to see what happens when cared for like a everyday fishermen would do. The tolerances for this reel are not what they should be for a reel of this Caliber. The handle is just a copy of Shimanos JDM counterpart (SEPHIA) and they do have a JDM version of this reel available. However not being made with the Quality that Shimano has had in previous Stradic's like the FH models I would highly reccomend that you move on to another reel. All gearing aside Shimano has a following that is greater than most companies and will always have this. If you want a reel that gives you a lifetime of use and a Spare spool. Look into a Daiwa outta luck,Fuego. or try and find a Shimano Stradic FH in a box. These will last forever. Right now you are paying for the name not the Quality anymore. Trust me. I have them all and use them from experience I would stay away.
  12. I pulled in an old burned out frame of a matress a few years back on Balsam with tons of lures in it. I had gotten snagged but used my lure retreiver to get it out. Ended up gaining a ton of Crankbaits.
  13. I have both suits. I have had the Ice Armor suit(regular one) for about 4 years now and the only difference in them is that the Extreme one has more insulation and a little bit extra material in certain places. The regular Blue suit will do you just fine. However the Ice armor extreme gloves are the bomb. Best gloves I have ever owned. Give Blake a call @ Fishingworld in Hamilton. I think they are the cheapest for the suits right now. Both of them and they just got their shipment of Ice Fishing gear. Tons of Clam stuff.
  14. Call Blake at Fishingworld. Small store service. Big box prices. One on one all the time and Prices are great. I drive from the East End all the time just for the Service. Everyone in that store is good at what they do. They just know about fishing and not something they should'nt.
  15. I pour most of my soft plastics now. 1 peice aluminum molds are the best for me so far. I have a cousin that works for a company that makes stuff from metal and he makes custom molds for me. Fishing world does not sell the soft plastic off the shelf but Blake can order it for you. Just contact him on here or call him at the store. I started making my own custom molds this year. It takes getting use to, trust me. To get them to turn out like the high end stuff you will have to go through alot of trial and error. When you get it right you will have a ton of soft plastic baits and will have alot of friends that will tend to use it, it works out to be so much cheaper.
  16. Some real nice ideas. Like the ones with the different species.
  17. No Warranty issues here. Every reel comes with a set of instructions on how to operate them and usually tell or new adays even have online videos as to show you even. http://www.squidoo.com/baitcast-reels?utm_...4#module8667210 http://www.squidoo.com/baitcast-reels?utm_...4#module8664257
  18. I have been painting my hooks and weights for years. I have 3 cases of colors. I buy that Vinyl JIg paint to use on them. Make sure to put a toothpick in the eye while painting and a small peice of cork or sponge on the hook point as well
  19. Insurance is not an issue. Guys will have to sign a waiver that all parties involved including OFC are not liable. Guys will have to have insurance on their rigs regardless. Thats a given on the water right now as well as obeying all rules and haveing the boaters card is mandatory.
  20. Hey Misfish. I have 5 down here in my backyard and Turkeys to. Feel free to drop by any time. They eat all my Dam vegetables and Flowers
