A Day of Trophy Toronto Northern Pike
tdotfisherman replied to tdotfisherman's topic in General Discussion
My success in the last few years for Pike has been go big or go home.. I throw nothing but the biggest tackle all year long. Almost Musky sized tackle. Big fish hit big lures. I don't have a harbour liscence.. I don't have the time to write it.. This means that I don't fish the Islands or Toronto Harbour.. but there are many other spots to be found.. as you can see by my success. In the future I may not even bother posting a report.. I don't have the energy to go to all the effort of posting just to get guff about verticle holds and imbelishing fish weights.. The bottom line is, nobody was there, the photos in my opinion don't even do the fish justice.. and I know the difference between 12 and 18 pounds.. My buddy's Pike was a lot closer to 18 than it was to 12. We're going to have to agree to disagree. Again, I appreciate all the positive feedback from the people who posted such. -Jason -
A Day of Trophy Toronto Northern Pike

Thanks all for the nice replies fellas.. I appreciate it. It was one hell of a day for Gator Hunting! I couldn't tell you buddy.. I've never fished the Toronto Islands by boat. We usually have success in the summer.. but we don't usually have this kind of size.. it was a completely unusual and uncalled for type of day. I can get numbers in the summer no problem though.. the key usually is structure.. hit healthy weeds, fallen trees, beaver dams.. there will be Pike. All these fish were caught by casting.. we were in about 10-15 feet of water.. above deep weedbeds.. the Pike were coming up, following and striking. I've never had success trolling for Toronto Pike.. Again.. sorry.. I've never fished the Islands by boat.. these Pike were not caught at the Toronto Islands.. -
Today my buddy Spence and I decided to head out on Lake Ontario to hunt down some Urban Pike. I haven't been out on Lake Ontario in about 2 months.. and we got skunked our last trip out. We decided to try a spot we don't frequent too much.. and it paid off HUGE. We boated 4 fish, all were trophy's (over 30") and my buddy caught a 38" monster that was pushing 20 pounds.. what a catch bud! We had other follows, and short-strikes as well, and all the fish in the area were between 30-40 inches, the big boys were out today.. ALL FISH WERE RELEASED, AND SWAM AWAY FINE, TO BE CAUGHT ANOTHER DAY.. we must respect the resource. Also, as per usual, I'm blurring out the backgrounds out of respect to shore anglers around Toronto (which I used to be) Enjoy the photos! 31" Pike: My 32" Pike: My 36" Pike.. easily 15 or 16 Pounds: The 38" Beast:

Hey all, Went up north this past weekend to fish Georgian Bay with my buddy, one of the best fisheries in Ontario. Caught lots of Pike, Bass, and Catfish. Didn't do that much fishing in general but I feel the need to make this report due to one special catch. I've been questing after Northern Pike hard for the last few years, and its been a goal to catch a 40 incher. My best to date has been 33.5" out of Lake Ontario. I've caught hundreds and hundreds of Pike, but the majority have been hammer-handles. Anyway, my persistance FINALLY payed off this weekened, after catching some normal sized Pike and few Bass, we decided to hit a weedy point that was near to deep water. I cast my large green Rapala into the weeds and BOOM, a huge hit. Once I saw the fish I knew it was a dandy. The fish fought hard, completely broke our net, and took both hands to lift into the boat. Measurements were 40" even and probably about 18 pounds, if not more. I finally did it, the 40" Northern Pike was caught.. and the best part about the whole experience is that the Pike was released healthy, he bolted off, and hopefully I can catch him again when he's 45 inches and 25 pounds! What a thrill.. until next time G-Bay.. Enjoy the pics of the weekend.. The Big Boy:

Votto wants to come to the Blue Jays, but I'm not sure the Jays have deep enough pockets for what its going to take to sign him.

My advice is not to even bother fishing for Musky.. its very challenging.. This past weekend I fished about 12 hours for Musky around Pointe au Baril, in great Musky spots, and didn't even have a follow.. Pike and Bass are everywhere though.. try weedy and rocky areas that are near deep water, and I'm sure you'll lay into some nice ones..

Weird PB for Me. Might be an Ontario record.

I've never seen a sucker anywhere near that large.. nice catch dude! -
Today at the bank, you should have seen all the dregs in trying to cash these cheques..

Ya.. I should probably know the answer to this.. I always carry my fishing license with me, and boating license.. but I have no ownership or anything for the boat I bought a year ago. It was a cash deal with a buddy's uncle.. and I didn't get a bill of sale or anything.. anyone wanna advise me on the legal thing to do.. thx!

I've been dealing with Carpenter Ants in my kitchen for the last 2 weeks or so. I've put out those traps that you can buy at CT, the ones where the ants bring the food to the queen, and it kills the hive. Has anyone had success with those? I'm still having ants lingering around, and I put the traps out about a week ago..

On Friday night, after I'm done work at 5:30.. gonna head home, throw all my stuff in the truck, load up the boat and head on up north. Going to be fishing Georgian Bay on Saturday and Sunday.. Pointe Au Baril.. It's going to be amazing!

Steelhead are funny fish man.. I've had outings where I've caught multiple Steelhead in the same pool.. BUT.. I've also gone an entire season without catching one.. Don't lose patience, keep plugging, and eventually good things will come. Think about it this way.. a bad day fishing is still better than a good day at work!

beauty!

The Northern Pike are starting to come in shallow to spawn.. we were out today and they were there, and were following... Get out before the season's closed for the spawn.. I'm going to be working too much and unable to fish this month.. so catch them for me guys.. and remember to post pics!

I have a boat.. and I fish around Toronto for Pike during the year.. Since the weather has gone above 0, I've had people that I took out last year asking me to take them out again. Still way too much ice... End of the month some of the bays and harbours might be partially clear of ice, but who knows?

Beautiful Python's in this thread. I always wanted one.. but I just don't have time to look after them properly, so I never bought one.

Dumbest thing I've done due to my obsession for fishing was probably going out on a crappy boat alone. I knew the boat was having problems starting and I knew that it was getting late and that cell phones didn't work up there.. but I went out anyway.. The boat finally started after about 15 minutes of pulling.. I don't take chances like that anymore..

First real job was when I was 16... I worked at an ice cream and coffee shop.. I'm 23 now.. I Think I made about $9.00 an hour.. which was above minimum wage at the time.. so I was happy.. It was great to work and make some money for the first time..

Great Lures That Caught You Squat Last Season?
tdotfisherman replied to CLofchik's topic in General Discussion
I have absolutely no confidence in swim baits.. I hate them.. they don't catch anything for me. Rapala Clackin Rap I used a few times last year.. didn't catch a thing.. but yet the Rattlin Rapala caught me a few fish.. -
Classic - TTC Operator Asleep On The Job
tdotfisherman replied to craigdritchie's topic in General Discussion
It's funny that it was caught on camera, but not that unusual.. I've seen a few TTC ticket takers nodding off late at night at the subway station.. That guy is probably going to be in a lot of trouble, I would imagine.. -
I have a Fenwick that I use for my medium baitcasting setup.. I've had it for two years and it has worked great.. I love the feel of it. Thumbs up for Fenwick.

I'm 23 and I wholeheartedly agree with that. What a good read. There is a reason why I spend my free time playing sports, fishing, boating and at the cottage, instead of wasting my life on an I-Phone or Playstation.

On the road.. I listen to anything and everything.. from 2Pac to Johnny Cash.. from Frank Sinatra to CCR.. all different eras and genres..

Oh man, how sweet.. I really should have posted a review.. Now I wish I would have sprang for a PVR..

Here's my boat.. probably the crappiest boat on the site, lol.. 1980's Mirrocraft with a 2001 15 Horse Mercury outboard. It's my first boat, and I've had it for six months, and its been great to me.. we've caught a LOT of fish in it so far. Probably going to keep this package for another year or two before upgrading...
