Last year I spent about $300.00 between Jan 1 and Opener i'd say so far this year I've spent $210.. ($150 of that being Christmas gift cards) from now until opener, and pretty much all year I'm going to limit my spending on fishing stuff, because I'm saving up to buy a boat, and most of my money is going towards that, seeing as my projected boat buying month would probably be June or Early July..

"Fish!" or "Fish On!" or "Big Fish!" haha.. if i'm quiet when I get a strike, chances are that it's something small..

An old crappy 12' tinner is still better than no boat.. being boatless myself right now I would take it, and i'd be happy.. congrats.

My suggestion for a good beginner Musky/Big Pike reel would be an Abu Garcia C4 6600.. I've got the 5500 and it's been great for big Georgian Bay Pike, and it won't break the bank..

What special boxing deal did you get?
tdotfisherman replied to okumasheffield's topic in General Discussion
Even though I got 150 dollars worth of BPS gift cards I didn't bother going today.. their deals were weak, and I'm in no rush to buy the few things that I need.. -
What was everyone's "Catch Of The Year"?
tdotfisherman replied to profisher25's topic in General Discussion
This was only my second year of hardcore fishing.. it was an up and down year, but I managed some new personal bests.. 27" Walleye caught at dusk up around North Bay this summer 17" Hog of a Smallmouth Bass that was caught around North Bay this summer 27" Steelhead that I caught this spring just after opener chucking small spinners in a local Lake Ontario trib and probably some of the most fun I had all summer was fishing for Bullhead at my buddies cottage on Georgian Bay.. I've never fished for Bullhead before, but they were an absolute blast.. we set up a few chairs, brought down a few beers to the dock, had about 10 cigarettes, and pulled the Bullhead up all night long.. this was in August, and from about 11pm to 3am, we must have pulled about 10-12 of them from off the dock.. it was an absolute blast! God, I can't wait for next year! -
Personally, I dont care if the network has a few faults.. all in all, I'm still in amazement that there is a network that is totally dedicated to fishing, thats broadcast in Canada. WFN is absolutely awsome, and the pro's vastly outway the con's for me..

Review of Dave Mercer's Facts of Fishing: The Show; Season 2, Episode 1: The introduction was funny as always, I liked the way you spliced in some new clips, but I found the old music a little bit more effective, but not that big of an issue. I still like the format, one day on the water. I liked how the show started off with a bang, in Texas for huge Aligator Gar. The enthusiasm was great, you could truely feel the fact that Dave was having the time of his life out there catching monster Gar. Funny and interesting as always. All in all, a very good first episode of the second season, which I know a lot of us have been waiting for. I like the new 'comic book' style of recapping you do in this season, it's visually unique and engaging I would say. I like the fact that you still keep with the ending, where you do the "facts" recap, this concept works well. All in all, I felt it was a good episode, it kept me interested the whole way through, and I look forward to more shows, wether they are shot in Canada, or abroad. Thanks, -TDotFisherman

Did anybody achieve any goals this year?
tdotfisherman replied to MCTFisher9120's topic in General Discussion
My only real goal this year was to catch a Northern Pike that was over 35" in length. I figured with the amount of time that I fished Lake Ontario and Georgian Bay, this was a sure thing, instead my largest Pike of the year was 28", slightly larger than my largest Walleye of the year, which was 27" Besides that.. this year yeilded my PB Steelhead, PB Smallmouth Bass, PB Largemouth Bass, PB Carp, and my PB Chinook Salmon.. Even though it was a very inconsistant, and up-and-down year, I had some great times fishing, some good catches, and some great times with family and friends either around Toronto, or up at the cottage. -
Weather - we're in for a treat this winter!
tdotfisherman replied to fishing n autograph's topic in General Discussion
If there are a lot of short warm fronts this winter i'll be happy.. i'm still fishing for Northern Pike around the GTA and still having pretty good success.. the longer until it all freezes over the better.. -
nice report. people up in the sioux lookout area have been telling me it's too early for ice fishing, shows what they know.. good work.

I signed up.. sounds like an awsome contest, although I'd rather the grand prize be a day out on the lake fishing with him.

Some pics from this past Quinte weekend

What a bunch of hogs, thanks for sharing! -
I'll have to bring my bear scare the next time I'm fishing in that area, which will be soon.. personally, I fish up north alone from shore lots of times, knowing there are bears around, and seeing them quite a few times, and I'm not really too concerned.. Cougars same deal, but it would be really neat to be able to photograph it, as long as it doesn't maul me..

Smacking your lure into the water to get rid of weeds
tdotfisherman replied to Steelcat's topic in General Discussion
It annoys me.. fishing requires a stealthy approach, if your doing that, why not just light up a beacon to the fish letting them know your out there trying to get them.. -
Nice report, and i wholeheartedly agree.. who cares about how awful the weather is, as long as your fishing!

Musky fishing for Pike and Walleye.
tdotfisherman replied to GbayGiant's topic in General Discussion
nice.. but you're making me miss Georgian Bay.. -
I've seen it at Lac Seul.. pulling up numerous Walleye in a very short period of time.. but then again thats Lac Seul for you, its a fish factory..
-
ha..around here you need to be part of the exclusive secret society to get the good information on where the big ones are biteing, everyone else has to depend on old fashioned legwork, and lots of skunkings..
-
Nice photo's P.. The weather wasn't very good but at least you hit some steel, I fished in the snow flurries for a few hours yesterday too, but all I was seeing were old salmon, not chrome..

Great report snagmasteral, It was perfect up on GBay this Thanksgiving weekend, I know cuz I was there.. not fishing though, but doing work to help close up the cottage..
