  1. As has been said here, eastern g bay can be a pike haven, but you gotta be there in the right window. I.e. second week of May through till the 3rd week in June. You also better have a guide or someone that knows where there are actually solid weedy bays otherwise you’ll find yourself driving around in uncharted water over a hell of a lot of rocks. In some ways it’s good because, to be honest at that time of year, find a shallow bay with weeds in it, there’s a great chance big momma is still hanging around nearby, but on the other hand, there are a bloody ton of shallow bays that don’t have a spec of life in them except maybe a few bedded up smallmouth hiding in the pencil reeds 2 feet from the waters edge. If you try fish it in July through august? Good luck. Then I’d recommend forgetting the pike fishing and instead enjoy some of the best smallmouth fishing the entire world has to offer. the benefits of GBay are 1. The drive is far more more reasonable than driving from Florida to Nipigong 2. You will find a totally different type of lodge, it’s going to be more cottaging than a fly in/far north outfitter. to me in some ways the experience of a northern outfitter is what it seems like the OP Is interested in, emulating his experience in the NWT if that’s the case go further north and catch a pile of Walleye and a ton of monster pike. or..shorten your drive and open up your horizons to catching some smallmouth, largemouth, Walleye and the occasional pike to boot! All while enjoying some of the most beautiful scenery on the planet. also parry sound has ok laker fishing, but you didn’t hear that from me
  2. Jaw grabber, aka with a fish that size, jaw breaker...
  3. feel for me folks, my dads side of the family is from edmonton...I was an oilers fan before I was a leafs fan...Im more of a leafs fan since i moved here when i was 8...but edmonton is my second favourite team. Its nearly as painful as my buddy who loves football, is a leafs fan and his football team is the the cowboys.
  4. lol try and chat with Dennis at Pointe Au Baril bait and tackle, youll be lucky to get a "yup"
  5. im confused, he wasnt trying to shoot the bear with that bow was he? also why did he wait so long to try and scare the bear off. Ive always been told if you come across a bear scream as loud as you can. Im lucky enough to have not come across one walking but I know they are around, my mom came across one in Manitoba while out for a jog, She yelled bloody murder at it and the thing figured there were less noisy meals to be had. Grizzlys on the other hand, to hell with them. One nearly killed my cousins best friend. When they are hungry, you are food. The thing ate part of his leg but he managed to survive by gouging its eyes with his bare hands!
  6. the funny part is no...its not,its actually a real legitimate concern for ottawa fans. the few that there are.
  7. bingo.. when rielly, Nylander, Matthews, Kadri, Kapanen are all not scoring...Im a lot less worried then if its one single guy. People forget they went through an almost identical cold patch last season at the exact same time and ended up with a franchise record for points. You wanna face adversity and be ice cold in january and february, because then you are hot when it matters. Thats also why you build a huge cushion early so that teams dont catch you when you inevitably have a rough patch. Freddy has only been back 2 games as well and last night the game could have gone either way. im not going to worry about it until the leafs are actually out of the playoffs.
  8. when will Ottawa ever make the playoffs again, at this rate? never because the team is going to fold in 4-5 years.
  9. we arent seriously going to listen to a guy talk trash about the 7th place overall team while his favourite team is tied for second last place and only 1 point up on dead last in the entire NHL are we? The gold in all of this is that when draft lottery time comes around and Ottawa gets that high 1st round pick...ahh how sweet it is that it gets shipped right over to Colorado lmao. No hope in hell for the senaturds Also ahaha i hear offered duchene 8 million per season for the next 8 years! Duchene is 28 years old and has only scored over 60 points once in his career. Hes barely a 30 goal scorer! God i hope the do it. Come on douch-ene sign it and decimate the most pathetic franchise in the entire NHL even further!
  10. this may help, most people dont realize this is the technique. Also RIP Kevin
  11. Make sure that when you purchase the new unit that it is a N (networking) model. my buddy made the mistake of buying link but doesn’t have networking capable graphs so it was a waste of his money
  12. I guess that’s my only contradiction when yOu are fishing suspended fish in deep water like salmon or laketrout
  13. Lol that’s the classic, these southern ontarioans don’t know about driving on square tires lol thats when you knew it was cold the tires went thump thump thump as you drove lol sleds and anything else that you wanted to run had to stay somewhere warm. When the weather broke and it got above -25 below again, everyone was out fishing because nothing ran when it was too cold. My stupid brother nearly died one night, him and a friend decided to go ice fishing, sure enough when they went to start the sled, it was a no go. Just too damn cold. They had an ice shack to stay in but ended up breaking into another shack to get fire wood to survive the night. Said it was the coldest longest night of his life sitting in that shack waiting until the temps rose enough the following day to get the sled running again.
  14. First mistake in sonars, is thinking that they are for finding fish. They are for finding things that fish like primarily. If you mark a fish as well good for you lol
  15. My suggestion is go with a terrova, if you really don’t want to be fancy about it skip buying ipilot link and simply get a terrova with ipilot bill is correct that a 24v system will move the boat fine but may leave you wanting more on rough windy days. If you can afford 110 just like an outboard more power is never a problem. interestingly bill says that he never uses his front unit, I personally would argue the complete opposite. I use my front unit while I’m actively fishing a hell of a lot more than my console units. I would argue that side imaging is stupid for the front transducer and you are better off with down imaging and chirp at the front unit. if you don’t have the fancy GPS simply use your basic gps unit because all minkottas come with Universal sonar functionality. Really allowing you to be pretty much plug and play. The amount of times im fishing along and mark fish beneath the boat on the front graph, hit spot lock and then drop a dropshot on the fishes head is too many to count. ipilot link is an additional function that will send you down the rabbit hole of spending thousands on new units, cards, and a more expensive trolling motor. I would argue if you don’t know about it already don’t bother stick with standard ipilot. the place you will enjoy it most is when you decide to jig up some Walleye on your favourite hump. You’ll pull up stealth, hit spit lock and the boat does the rest. No dancing around on the trolling motor, no trying to find the hump again, no readjusting or flying all over the place when a wind gust hits. You can’t beat it. any more questions let me know, I’ve researched the stuff extensively and know more than any person that isn’t making a living selling the damn things should lol. edit: I’ll add that if you can describe what your current electronics set up is, I can go into more detail about your options
  16. sounds like a solid offer, all of my gear is up north, if i go up this weekend I will bring it back...just a matter of whats going on this weekend.
  17. coldest i ever experienced was in Flin Flon January 12th 1996. It was -39 with 40kmh winds...it was actually too dangerous for us to catch the bus to school, so they cancelled buses on a day with no snow. for me a kid it seemed not far from any other day, -30 hurts and that was normal, so -39 doesnt hurt a lot more lol. however my mom went and swept of the porch to get rid of some blowing snow for about a minute and ended up permanently damaging her ears with frostbite. We do get the odd day in Ontario, this past weekend it was 25 below in pointe au baril...had the classic nose freezing feeling, -30's though is when yours eyes stick when you blink.
  18. hmmm I would argue no, but its more about how friggin expensive it is. This is far more than a pretty image, this is pretty game changing. Heres a really good explanation of how it works...once again by none other than Mr AAron Weibe of course
  19. Nick find yourself a nice pair of powder skis, or even some 90's non wood water skis and that thing would floattttt nice lil rig though for sure. Ill race you dragging my 150lb clam...only catch is that I get to use the Ski-poo lol Hopefully i get to see it in person at some point...some simcoe lakers maybe???
  20. what a beauty weekend it was, not a cloud in the sky and crisp -20 mornings and dead calm -10 sunny afternoons. I swear to god it feels 100 times warmer when its -10 sunny and calm then when its 0 and cloudy. My buddy couldnt help falling asleep either, those sunny afternoons called for a nap. I even got a sunburn, and met a local who directed me the way of a bush trail that I was not aware of that allows me to fish in one of my favourite fishing grounds. Lots of people were concerned about this ice season, i think we are just getting started on a long hardwater season. Time will tell!
  21. 14 inches in front of the cottage in pointe au baril not as much in trouble areas but most things are passable now especially after this cold snap with no snow on the ice.
  22. Anywhere in the parry sound district is gonna be good to go for walking at a minimum if you avoid trouble areas. Plenty of ice up here now
  23. Only thing I would worry about is the fact that without a doubt lowrance or Humminbird are doing their absolute best to try and copycat it and as such the price will definitely drop. if you’ve got the dough it’s by far the craziest thing on the market right now and for sure isn’t a fad. You can’t argue with 3d live imaging
  24. There’s no way I’m venturing onto quinte knowing nothing unless it’s January and I’m sure the ice is good. Unless someone that knows wants to take me lol
  25. Hopefully being busy now just means you have more time during the real season, softwater season lol
