  1. can we get a title change to this thread? camp opens soon. Leafs D core looking much much stronger than last year. Really hoping Ceci can take a step forward playing on riellys wing. I think Dermott is going to quickly beat him out of his spot though. That muzzin barrie combo is gonna be nice.
  2. been relying on my electronics to find the smallies, they seem to have moved out off of the edge because of the wild temperature swings up shallow and are easily spotted in 20+fow. Ive simply been dropping a drop shot right on their heads. Ive found a few fish shallow grinding cranks, but more consistent bite is off shore. They are all puking up crayfish big time when i pull them up. The pike are all holding to the liveliest sections of weeds. Any time ive found healthy weeds the pike are holding to them as the majority of milfoil etc is now dying off.
  3. Fatal black bear incidents are extremely rare, in fact I think there have been a few in history. grizzly bear attacks are a whole other story.
  4. agreed...love it when it cools off but its not too cold. Lets you be in the boat all day comfortably.
  5. im headed up for a work weekend thursday morning, hoping to sneak some fishing in early. I think the jerkbait and drop shot bite will be firing.
  6. what model did you go with ci4+?
  7. Last year running from Bobcaygeon down to the narrows it was a perfectly calm glass day, I was running back for weigh in going about 50mph we got south of big island and the entire lake looked like a wash tub, i hit a rogue double up and almost speared it going full teats. There actually wasnt a boat near me for at least a kilometer in any direction. In a small 14 foot or less tinner you wouldnt even be able to drive it easily even if its glass. It gets that weird glass chop where theres 3 footers everywhere.
  8. gannon narrows on a saturday in the summer, holy crap.
  9. these reels have literally gone to complete trash. Ive seen two purchased brand new this year have their drag systems completely fail.
  10. long thread here with lots of info, but I will just give you my 2 cents from my personal experience and that of my buddies that I fish with. My buddies have a penchant for messing around and trying to find cheaper deals. theyve used everything from Lews, Diawa, Abu Garcia, Pfleuger, Quantum and shimano. My one buddy recently bought the Quantum smoke on a recommendation from my other friend who says its great...they are piece of garbage. Dont bother. Dave said he really likes his, so jake bought one because they were on sale (like you are seeing) sure enough after 2 months the things drag is totally failing. Dave claims that his is great, but now his is broken too. The lews...dont waste your time they failed as well. (im a fan of their baitcasters though) Daves a huge fan of the new Diawa spinning reels, but they just came out on the market so theres no telling about their longevity. The guys have always been a fan of the pfleuger reels. They seem to be a decent low price option. Not sure Id drop a lot of money on one though? They seem to hold up over time though. Ive owned, and still own a couple of Abu Reels. They seem to hold up, the revo SX I had back in the day is still kicking. I sold it to a buddy of mine, its held up for 10 years! Then you come to shimano, and specifically the stradic. I have slowly been acquiring stradics to fill out my arsenal over the years, Ive got a 3000fi, a 3000fj and 3 Ci4+s The worst thing that has happened is that the 3000fi which is an absolute work horse for me, its bail spring evenually failed. I also then noticed recently it was grinding a bit on retrieve so i cleaned it out and greased it. Other than that, not a single one has failed on me, the drags on all of them is absolutely bulletproof, and furthermore the stradics drag system in general is one of the smoothest most consistent and adjustable drag systems I have ever used. So my reco? Go with a stradic and never look back. Clean em out every so often and youll have an incredible reel that will last you for the next 20+ years. This is coming from a guy who is on the water fishing his reels over 300 hours a year.
  11. fished lake of bays september 2nd last year, bass were hard on the shiner bite. suspending out in 50fow
  12. that was originally told by king billy coke bottle
  13. being a flin flonner this one especially made me laugh hahaha!
  14. incredible sunrise. Early bird gets the view i guess.
  15. you guys made it look easy! nice shootin
  16. Im sure these same guys did a fantastic job winterizing their boats. I gotta laugh though Imagine starting your fogged engine on the boat ramp lmao!! SMOKE SHOW Not boat related at all, but a hilarious quip from my old car club. I still dont know if it actually happened, but it was a hilarious thought anyways. Back when emmisions tests required your car to be hooked up to the government's scam machine, one of the members took a bet from a few guys that he wouldnt load his car full of seafoam before taking the E test. He apparently clouded out the entire shop ahhaha.
  17. yup, onboard chargers arent even that expensive these days. For the cost and convenience they probably maintain your investment, especially if you are buying good batteries, or for a guy like Dave Chong hes probably gone full Lithium?
  18. i always try 3/4 tungsten when i can, but sometimes even it wont punch through really heavy stuff. Its rare 1oz tungsten wont get through unless you are really really in some greasy stuff. Generally if you are good enough at flipping you can hit the weak spots in what you are flipping through.
  19. the problem is that the people are so ignorant that she thought it was my fault that they were in the way because their plan was to use the side of the dock for the people coming in off of the water. I had already waited 5 minutes floating out in the lake for the other side of the dock to open up, I guess whats another 20 minutes?
  20. jeeez grimsby, how did he get the boat back on the trailer? did you stick around to watch lol? ive forgotten the plug out too many times to count, but thats probably because i rarely launch at busy public launches. When i do I go full OCD and check the boat over 5 times to make sure everything is set before I put the boat in. Luckily, I can reach my plug by reaching over the back of the boat. Im not too proud to say that I havent done that a couple of times as well Not so "funny per-se" but just an example at the ridiculousness of public launches, the Chemong causeway launch has one dock that has enough room for a boat on each side. 3 weeks ago I was coming in after spending the day out on the lake and another young guy was parked on the outside of the dock so I sit out in the water waiting for the spot to open up so that i can tie off and go get the truck to pull out. Another family is launching their bowrider as this is happening, a group of about 6+ kids and dog etc. Young guy hops back in his boat after parking his truck and takes off and I pull in and park my boat at the outside of the dock. There is a line up of cars waiting to launch. The lady looks at me as im pulling up and parking my boat on the outside of the dock "but we were going to use that side of the dock" she says accusingly as if I stole it. I simply ignore her and go to get my truck, as I watch her friends and family begin to load the boat with their supplies for the day parked blocking the launch so that no one else can launch. They then sat there for 5 minutes waiting for their friends to be ready so that they could leave. I guess I was supposed to just sit out in the bay until all of the boats had stopped launching that day ? Its funny, people seem to notice when you actually prepare your boat ahead of time for launching. Mutitple times people have commented "youve done this a few times eh?" just because I get the boat ready before I hit the ramp. I guess common sense isnt common
  21. buckhorn and chemong are loaded with them but honestly...if you are coming all of the way from england, why would you bother angling for something you can get at home, why not try your hand at some musky, pike or smallmouth, or heck, try for some salmon or trout ?
  22. funny you did so well this past weekend, I was up on the bay and couldnt get anything going at all, Just a dink fest!
  23. decent bass fishing for sure.
  24. Just my 2 cents, I’ve done away with just replacing the bearings and seals...for an extra $30 you can just replace the entire hub with the new races already installed. I did a bearing swap last year and cracked my hub putting the races in using a proper races punch tool. more effort than it’s worth. you should be able to see the code for your bearing size stamped on your bearings. Just match that and you are good to go.
