  1. Gonna be swimming in the lake today pulling the marine rails and docks out. Luckily I’ve got a dry suit to wear...still not fun though. damn forecast had to get worse and worse on my vacation week. Howling winds freezing temperatures. Then my vacation ends and it’s supposed to be 15. good times
  2. Those stone flys look awesome
  3. absolutely love that area myself. Have a very close family friend that is based out of theona park. I have spent a pile of time fishing those lakes.
  4. very nice fish. Good to see you getting out there Dan! looks like it was worth the trip for sure.
  5. this one also pains me a lot buddy. Usually i just end up using boats.net and dealing with the consequences of shipping. I also plan on doing a carb rebuild on my yamaha this winter and it really blows that you cannot source parts in canada. The only luck ive had is my local marina is a yamaha dealer so they are sometimes able to get parts but their markup is insane on a lot of stuff so its actually worth ordering from the states and paying ridiculous shipping fees. Search ebay as well, lots of smaller parts shops out of the states sell stuff on ebay. I recently bought a new hydraulic pump for my trim off of a motor shop in Detroit on ebay. Came here and was perfect.
  6. Keel guard all day
  7. I’d personally recommend and auto inflatable. They are so comfortable you will forget that you are wearing it. I personally use a cabellas guide wear and love it. I made the switch from only wearing a vest while under power to basically always wearing the inflatable. There’s stories about them not inflating, but I think a significant component of that is people not storing and maintaining them correctly.
  8. jeez dave you catch a lot of big ones lol Howd the tournament season go this year. I saw you got a second there in that open. Any other good finishes mixed in there?
  9. Ive used a mustang, owned and used a FXR Float X, Nautilus (and went through the ice with it...theres a thread about that) and now I own a Salus. (still use the FXR for snowmobiling) Being the opposite of a few members here, i actually prefer a 1 piece simply for the warmth. Undeniably, a two piece is generally more comfortable for riding snowmobiles, and of course you can just wear the bib for when you are trying to get set up on warm sunny winter days and you start sweating. But, if you like me fish hutless very often, or arent scared of fishing when the mercury really drops -30 then you cant beat a 1 piece for keeping you warm. Now...as far as floatation goes, speaking from my personal experience, wearing a 1 piece coast guard approved float suit like the nautilus. I was floating so high in the water and was under control of the situation enough to make the conscious decision to attempt to get out without my picks (that were on me and readily available) I found it actually fairly easy to get out without the picks because I was floating so intensely. It literally was like every inch of my body was in a giant life jacket, I was barely in the water I was so buoyant. once I was out the suit drained incredibly fast and I immediately noticed that my body was warming up drastically. My hands and feet were not so happy and it was not a comfortable walk home. That suit then got a rip in it and I ended up buying a salus...the salus has every feature I could ever want from a float suit, its a bit stiff, but ergonomically fits, has a great suspender system to allow you to take the top off to cool off and the thing is built like armour around your body. Its insanely warm, waterproof and I absolutely love it. It to me beats the mustang and nautilus in every way.
  10. i actually think its the opposite. In 2020 we have meatheads everywhere running around embracing being giant D bags. Look at Colby Covington in the UFC. Its an entire movement.
  11. yup i heard this too... Judging by the video, i cant say he doesnt fit the bill...i mean to drive a boat like that and name it that, youve got to be a pretty huge d-bag of epic proportions? no?
  12. my neck of the woods is close, the water temperature is into the mid 50's now. Still can be as warm as 63 in other spots. The fish have definitely transitioned a bit with it. Where I was throwing a crank right up shallow a couple of weeks ago was a dead zone this past weekend. They wanted nothing to do with moving baits, they wanted everything drop shotted and out into the edge back into 20 fow. Man once we found the fish again though it was a bloody gongshow. We caught 20 smallmouth in about an hour 1 to 4 lbs they were all sitting on the side of the same clump of rocks in the middle of the lake.
  13. dont feel so bad, I fished a tourney out of honey harbour a few weeks back and we managed to lose 4 4+lb fish boat side in one day, i couldnt believe our luck lol. In the end if we had even a 50% landing ratio on those 4 fish we would have finished in the money. Ended up middle of the pack because we still had a couple of good ones. Theres big fish around there for sure.
  14. my understanding is all reserve premium is ethanol free. Dont know if anyone can assure that though.
  15. i could swear theona park has vacancies? I noticed extra lots last year, but maybe thats changed with covid and everyone scrambling to get back outside again.
  16. jeez...clean as a whistle You ever get them on the fly?
  17. isnt it true, fishing is the best damn therapy in the world Those damn Rapalas or as me and my buddies call em "crapolas" A couple recent trips out for me had me thinking I was losing my bloody mind when i kept having giant smallmouth after giant smallmouth come unpinned on a DT-10. I dont know why i didnt think of it earlier but of course, I examined the hooks and sure enough every single one was bent outwards slightly. The damn hooks couldnt hand when a 4+lb smallie smashed the bait while cranking, it bent all of the hooks. Thanks for the report, theres truly not enough of it around here anymore. People either too uptight about where they fish like they are some type of fishing god, or folks are just too lazy to do the amount of work it takes to edit photos, and actually write something worth reading. Im sure the guys on here that either A: have difficulty posting photos etc or B cant fish anymore appreciate them even more than I do. Thanks for taking the time and I hope you stick around and keep posting more!
  18. this time of year, for smallmouth definitely find a shoal and park on it and cast out a drop shotted minnow pattern. Youll catch a bunch of smallmouth. For musky fish nogies creek.
  19. This just looks to me like a regular saturday in the kawarthas If the boat is registered they will find him...thats a hard boat to hide, someone will figure it out eventually. At worst the guy cant drive his stupid (compensation) large loud boat anymore because if he does hes going to end up in jail. *edit* the video is also now getting international attention on other bass boat and fishing forums...someone is going to see the video and know where the boat is from at a minimum.
  20. my 2 cents...which are probably worth closer to a penny 1. If you can afford it, get the panoptix livescope. Anyone that says anything else is comparable hasnt used it, or is attached to their lowrance, birds etc. Im a humminbird guy, my boat has 3 of them in it. My old man got panoptix livescope a month ago, simply put, its a total game changer. its expensive as hell. Thats all that should be considered when making up your mind. Know the livescope is the best by far (not even close) but know that it comes with very steep price. 2. Maximize your HP on your outboard. If you can get the bigger boat, but that comes at the sacrifice of having max hp on your boat...go with the 18 foot and get the max hp rating. 3. Trolling motors, ive ran a motorguide tour cable steer, ive ran the powerdrives both v1 and v2, ive ran the terrova v1 and terrova v2, ive ran an edge and ive ran a fortrex, ive got multiple friends with ultrex's heres the straight dope. The foretrex is the most reliable and best cable steer on the market...but and heres a huge huge but, it doesnt have ipilot. For us fishermen on the great lakes..thats a deal breaker. Until you realize the power of using spot lock and Auto pilot on an ipilot enabled trolling motor, you cant fairly comment on it. The ultrex has had major major issues with the cable mechanism breaking on them leaving guys that have them without a trolling motor that steers on tournament day. Ive heard that the newer generation of them has fixed the issue, but I have heard absolutely nothing but complaints. Here it is simply put, you fish the great lakes, the wind is really blowing and you want to cast a shoreline in a cross wind. Trust me you dont want to be dancing on your trolling motor foot pedal trying to constantly adjust for the wind. Furthermore, you get in some 3-4 foot waves, good luck running your footpedal in that. Cable steer motors are designed for how the bass guys down south use em, and they are 100% the best option for doing that kind of fishing, electric steers suck when you are in the slop. My suggestion, if you can once again afford it, get the Garmin Force if you can. Its an electric steer with the responsiveness of a cable steer. Is both an 80lb and a 110lb brushless motor in a single package. If its too expensive, then keep it simple, cheap right down to the terrova and never look back. Get ipilot, the day you decide to go jig up some fish in some strong wind or current, youll be forever grateful you did it. Theres nothing, and i mean nothing that compares to spotting a fish on your unit and hitting anchor and dropping your bait right on their heads and leaving the technology to handle your boat while you worry about catching the fish. Additional thought both motorguide and minkotta have been disappointing for me in regards to reliability...unfortunately in their respective price range, they are the only two players so you are basically screwed either way. I am hearing really really really bad stuff though about the motorguides and my visit to aikmans today to drop off our 10 year old powerdrive for service was troubling when the two guys in front of me were dropping off identical motorguides that were purchased in the last 4 months....yikes. Outboards...dont go evinrude, they are out of business for a reason and i still see dealers trying to pawn them off on people.
  21. is there a specific reason you are gung ho on fishing stoney? There's such better fishing opportunities elsewhere nearby.
  22. optima has recently changed who manufactures their batteries. Id honestly suggest Canadian tire AGM personally! Made by east pen deka...best warranty in the game and really competitive pricing. You can usually find them on sale too and save yourself the 15% tax.
  23. ive told this story before but my old man put his rod down ice fishing one time and a pike immediately bit his line and took his rod down the hole gone. 5 minutes later my dad jumped up and shoved his arm down his hole, the fish had swam back past the hole and the rod floated up into his hole again, he grabbed the rod and landed the fish and ate it for dinner.
  24. I went group 24 ultra AGM from canadian tire for the size savings while maintaining huge reserve capacity and cranking amps Industry leading 4 year all encompassing full replacement warranty and I have absolutely loved mine so far. Thing turns my two stroke over like its firing a machine gun.
