  1. Pete the motors are two different animals. The two stroke has less mechanical parts meaning no oil related parts and no valve train, pushrods, or timing chain. The lack of this extra weight and friction make them able to achieve their RPMs a lot faster. The motor with an even faster response is an electric motor it is at full potential as soon as the voltage is applied no explosions or pistons to get moving before an action occurs.
  2. Glad to hear your trip is going so well Cliff N Sue. The fish you are catching called Croakers have a cousin called Spot. Both are very good fighters and taste excellent. They usually are caught on bottom rigs with bloodworms being the bait of choice but shrimp, squid also work well. They range all the way to Florida so you will be entertained any where you go. Glad to hear you are enjoying your trip. be well Art
  3. I have an indoor cat who likes to go outside and lay in the sun or prowl around. His world is when I get home from work the dog and cat go outside while I am prepping the truck for the next day and other outside work needed. The cat is called in with a whistle and the dog and I finish our outside work or go for a walk on the property. I watch over the cat when he is in his outdoor world because he does not have front claws. Art

  7. I know that the goats do this all of the time to their friends. They will spar like this when they are in a friendly mood. Ruddy was a over 7ft tall when he reared up and he would come down and bump your hand with his head as gently as he could. He would then huff and snort and capper around and line up for the next blow. He has passed on but he was one of my favorite buds who lived outside. Art
  8. I powder coat lots of motorcycle and car parts and have found it to be very durable and easily applied. If you do "puff" it on make sure you have the correct respirator to prevent getting it in your lungs and it will really irritate the eyes too. Best is to heat them up with a heat gun and forceps then dip them then heat till it glosses and is smooth. Art
  9. I usually start off with asking them to please mail me my jacket back that they stole. If they hang in there with that one then it is off to asking if they believe in dragons. Art

  13. The damascus blades are an old art form from the Japanese that takes a carbon core of metal and then they heat it with a thin piece of another steel that has less carbon but is more of a protestant from corrosion. They keep folding it over on itself which makes the core keep its high carbon aspect yet allows it to be flexible and less likely to rust. The art form was originally used for the samurai swords that were known for their ability to take an edge and turn the blade of a striking blow. The metal is stronger than the 440C that most commercial knifes are made of but not as hard as the vg10 which is the new formula of the damascus blades. The harder the metal of a blade is the harder it is to sharpen but the less often it will need to be sharpened. The higher the carbon content of a blade the easier it is to sharpen but the finer the edge can be honed to. The disadvantage is that high carbon knifes need to be kept dry and oiled because they will rust. The popularity of the Stainless steel is not that it is a better blade metal but that it more forgiving for the way we abuse our knifes. Damascus blades can be machine made using a air hammer and lesser cover metals all of the way to a hand forged blade using the correct metal and traditional arts costing hundreds or for a sword thousands of dollars. 14. The Wicked Edge is sold in the States at this website. http://www.wickededgeusa.com/. I would expect that they do ship to Canada have a look at the systems while they are pricey they are made well and do what they say. The WE100 will sharpen most knifes to the level that is excellent for 95 % of what people want. Add the blue/purple and you can finish the blades to razor sharp. When you get into the polishing of the blades you are past the true point of a working edge and into art work or bragging rights. For some getting one or two friends to chip in makes it affordable and a good way to meet up and curse the weather and plan your next trip. They do have a Canadian distributer here. I haven't contacted them to see what they charge or about shipping so check both places for prices. 15. As we say thank you to Joey for hosting the previous contest we also need to give Chris a big welcome not only for the hours he has already dedicated to learning the system, forms and ins and outs of the IPS board but the hours he will spend coordinating this labor of love. Thank you for keeping this tradition alive Chris and I hope we get as good a turnout as we have in the past. Art
  16. You actually have asked for a very easy knife to make and it is not very expensive. You can get the kit from this site. http://www.knifemaking.com/product-p/ss920k.htm I encourage you to try making one yourself you will be suprised how much talent you have in your hands. The best advise I have is read the instructions that come with the kit and sand, sand and sand it smooth then apply the finishes. You will have around 3 hours of work into the knife spaced over 2 weeks for the finish to dry and the multi coats that you build up and sand in some cases 10 coats for the deep shine we all like. Don't forget to get the matching sheath for your blade. Art
  17. The secret to keeping the cuts to a minimum is to use painters tape on the blade edge and then tape it from one side to another. I still get cut every once in awhile but usually I don't feel it till I see red then it is time for the neosporine and compression tape.lol Art
  18. What you didn't name your "guns" thunder and lightning. lol Art
  19. Roy if you decide to get the system (WE100) and add a set of (blue/purple). Give me a holler and I can set you up with some wood "stones" that use diamond slurry paste. While the wicked edge have the stones and paste there price is very high compared to what I have been able to outsource the pastes and the blocks are easily made with the help of Pops and his workshop. You can go with the ceramic stones for your micro work but I have found them easily clogged and difficult to clean. Art
  20. I decided to take up an old hobby that I have done in the past. I started making custom knifes again. Here are a few that I have made this year. This is an old knife I bought from a flea market and I refurbished the steel and made a new handle out of a wood called Tiger maple. This is called a patch knife and the handle is a poplar tree with a diagonal cut to the wood. These are hunting knifes from top to bottom Leopard wood, Cherry and Maple. The blades are called domascus blades and are hand forged and rolled to build the layers you see in the knifes metal. These are a set of damascus steel paring knifes the edges are tempered and are a vg10 making them really sharp and holds a good edge. The handles are made of a maple with a walnut stain to darken them. This is a trout fillet knife with a laminated silver and black handle with a 440c blade. This is the sharpener I use called the wicked edge it is the finest sharpener you will find and puts an edge on a knife that is truely sharp. http://s174.photobucket.com/user/aplumma/slideshow/sharpening%20blade%20micro This is a microscopic look at the way a blade is sharpened and what the difference is between a factory edge is and a truly sharp edge. Hope you have enjoyed this. Art
  21. I use reels that have deep spools for any time I am casting deadbaits for large catfish. I set my spread out 60-90 ft from the boat in a fan configuration and set the reels on light drag for the pick up. I also use them when surfcasting from the beach for saltwater fish. On a good cast you can put out 80 to 100 yards and then have to turn a fish back to the beach quickly unless you are using a deep spool. Art
  22. For the price you have to spend you should watch the classifieds for a gentle used one that will get you more bang for the buck. I will say an inexpensive reel is one that will either aggravate you with poor performance or break in the worst time and manner. Art
  23. The final word on the pitch is if you sell your car you will then need to buy a newer car/van. They can make a trade in offer sound pretty good even getting you better than blue book but in the end you either get a poor trade in and a good price on the new van or great trade in and a poor deal on the new. I thankfully have the system beat I am the plumber for the ford dealership and when I buy a car I sit in front of the computer of the owner and see what they have exactly in a vehicle including kick backs and we come to a fair price. 24. Cliff don't forget to call the credit card company and inform them you are traveling in the USA from date to date so they will not flag your card when you try to purchase stuff in the USA. I started doing it when I travel to Canada and have had no issues with cards being denied since doing it. If you path comes thru Virginia P.M. me for directions and phone # for a nice place to overnight if you and Sue want too. Art
