  1. Hey Deano look at the back of the speedometer and see if it is a hollow tube or a few wires going in to it. if it has wires check the colors and see were they go inside of the engine cowl. If it is the hollow tubing then unplug it and blow smoke thru it and see were it comes out of the engine. Either way their is very little you can do to calibrate them most of the time it is due to the age of the rubber diaphrams or corrosion that takes them out of calibration. Art
  2. Well done Bud everyone should have a puppy around the house few things feel as good as the greeting you get after a bad day. Art
  3. You need something in the environment to deal with the nutrients in the water. A few live plants would go far in the search for clear water. They have two jobs one is to use the nutrients the other is to keep a dose of good bacteria growing. Art
  4. I think that Responsible is a good word to add. Thanks Art
  5. A little back round of myself might help. I have owned guns for 33 of my 45 years of life. I have had guns that are designed to shoot with pin point accuracy and others that are designed to make a big hole quickly. Some of my guns include light caliber, heavy caliber, black powder, handguns, shotguns and rifles. I own them because to be safe and humane it takes different guns to hunt different animals and conditions. To shoot a squirrel with a .22 is normal to shoot a squirrel with a .270 is insane. I don't pursue muskie with the same rod that I fish for bluegills with because it would damage the muskie and would be very difficult to do. Some of my guns are admittedly toys a Browning .270 with a trigger job and a 50 MM sniper scope is more than what is needed to hunt deer but around here I have places to shoot the rifle for the joy of accuracy at places that are easy to get to because their are enough people who enjoy this sport. Their is only one gun that I bought for protection and that is a 9MM Taurus the rest have their first job of hunting and some can double as home protection. Their is not many reasons that I can see were you need to carry a gun in public when you are not hunting but as government makes rulings it also affects us in the hunting arena too. If they make it illegal to carry a gun and ammo in the same vehicle it would make hunting outside of your property almost impossible. It is not a gun ban per say but its effects would be the same end result. When I was in the special forces their was alot of training that dealt with how to use your rifle correctly and how to care for it because at some point you might be asked to stand up for the beliefs that your country has deemed worth fighting for. I am not a gun nut who will fight till blood is drawn if someone does not see the importance of having a gun or decides that guns are not the answer. I am glad that they have a choice but the reason they have that choice is because I fought for their right to make that choice. For all of the people that have served in the Armed Forces whether it was peace time or war you took an oath to defend your country and rights by picking up a weapon and killing someone else if it is needed or to be killed by someone else. While not a pleasant thought it is the price we pay to be free with our voting and guns and the right to protest without getting overwhelmed by the government. Lastly thanks for the insite John you have not attacked gun ownership you have expressed the same wish that all of the gun owners have and that is where guns are not used in a bad manner. I hope some day we all get our wish and in a world without humans it might be possible. Art
  6. I take comfort in the fact that if someone violates my rights by entering my house that I have the ability to protect myself and even better my wife can protect herself from up to 9 intruders before reloading. I hope that the day never comes but just as we wear seat belts in a car we hope we never find out if they work. To outlaw guns or restrict ownership or the 101 other things that both the U.S. and Canada has tried has only netted guns owned by people who legally owned the guns in the first place. If you are a bad guy and you want to do harm to someone and magically all of the guns have disappeared then you will get the next most convenient for of force. So then crossbows and then bows till we are all using plastic knives to eat our dinner. Thankfully the plastic knife scenario will never happen and hopefully I will never draw my gun because someone has chosen to violate my right. I think that it is far more than just owning a gun or having a gun in the house it is "The right to bear arms" that we all should be passionate about just as much as the "The right to vote and the right to fight injustice and to protect the people and property we hold dear to us". 7. Most of the time if it has NF it means NON FISH it makes it easy to see that it will not be a fishing related item. Reading the title is another clue but sometimes people get cryptic so it is not as easy. If you accidentally get tricked into reading a NF story don't panic alot of times it will be as enjoyable as a fishing story especially if you have mete the people face to face at some point and you actually do care what they are doing in life. I think it is the Non Fishing stores that gives this site the SOUL that it has that allows people to laugh and cry together and help each other out when it is needed most. Just ask Maureen if Tyler wants it separated or the family that lost their house or Chuck when he was in the hospital with a broken neck and the many others that have shared the loss and the joys of new boats and loved ones. Yes I know you are asking for a separate place not a ban on these stories but it will mean just another place to click on and read and for the ones that do not read them we will lose your valuable views and input. 8. I got to agree with Tbay the only crime that I see is people are being over charged for a gun holder. It is not illegal to own and use firearms here in the states and if you have them legally then you are a law abiding citizen. If you have them illegally or use them in a manner that is illegal then you lose that right and possibly your life if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. I like the fact that criminals do not know if you have a gun it keeps the ones on the edge of stupidy from going over the line. For the record in 45 years I have not drawn or seen a gun drawn on an other person in real life but it seem to occure nightly on the T.V. Art

  20. the slime on the catfish will start a nasty infection. The whiskers are harmless but it is the fins that do the damage. They are ridgid and have barbs that really get the wound hurting. If you get stuck you can put some meat tenderizer that you use in the ktchen on the sting. You can then give it a good scrubbing with an anti bacterial soap to get the bad stuff out of the wound. As far as unhooking them you can use a lip grabber if it is over 5 lbs to hold them as you remove the hook. If you can control the fish with your hands then you will slide your hand up from below with your palm on his belly sliding the ridgid side fins between the thumb and pointer finger and the other between the pinky and the ring finger. Run your hand up till it has the fins touching the web of your fingers. Then with your thumb on one side of the head and the other 4 fingers on the other side of the head close your hand and grip the fish. If you would like take a picture of one of the bigger fish and need to hold them use a lip grabber or a pair of gloves to hold the fish by the lip and support the belly with your arms. Sliding your hand into the gill plate is almost a death sentence for the fish.Another way to hold the fish is a vertical hold and is ok for a photo if it is not held to long. If you let them go healthy you will catch them over and over for years to come. Art
  21. Well after counting all of the hooks and seeing that over half of them were dull I came up with an official count of 118 treble hooks. The exact winner is EC Milley for his guess of 118. The second winner was Slowpoke with his guess of 116. I would like to Thank you Jen and Pete for providing this prize for the Tyler Foundation last winter as a prize for the auction. The extra mile that your company goes for all of us fisherpeople is greatly appreciated. Ec Milley and Slowpoke check you P.M. box to receive your code for your $25.00 gift Certificates. Please note that they will expire on 12/31/2007 so shop quick and shop often. A final thanks to our fearless leader for permiting ME to have this contest on this site even if the lawyers did not get a chance to approve it.
  22. Go to the main page and check in the catagory called Hook ups you can see if someone near you wants a fishin partner. Art
  23. If you go to Ebay and type U.V. flashlight you will find quite a few for little money. I use it to show homeowners that the smell in the bathroom is from little Johnny missing the toilet. It makes it glow in all of the places that the homeowner has missed while cleaning. The blacklight bulb will give you a poor glow it does not put off alot of U.V. Art
  24. Looks like it is time to enroll someone into Sunday school. For a child to ask that question you might want to ask him what has happened to make him ask that question. It could be just something he heard as a passing reference or he might be struggling with a concept that he is not old enough to comprehend that he heard from an adult conversation. Most 5 year olds do not know what the concept of infinity is or care for that matter. Art
  25. My choice of places up their is Lak Air The cabins are nice and the boats are well maintained. You might bring a fishing buddy for depth and a electric motor w/battery. The food is awsome and the staff will make your trip memorable. The fishing is very good nearby with your choice of pike walleye muskie and small mouth bass in the area. For the run into town it is about 15 miles away so if you need something it is easy to get. You might consider 2 boats so you can fish different areas and meet up when you want to. less chance of hookin each other too. Good luck and have fun Art
